Couldn't remember the title of the last one so thought that'd do!

No sign of them at all, went out and looked through and all the lights are off, definitely not in. WTF IS GOING ON????

By way of a placemark - you can't bookmark in every version of Mumsnet.

SummerLovingGal · 28/07/2017 08:55

Can someone link to the first thread please, this looks exciting ! (That'll learn me for being off Mumsnet for 48 hrs...)

Figgygal · 28/07/2017 08:57

Such odd cheeky fuckers

To just piss off and not even inspect the work

Ijustwantaquietlife · 28/07/2017 08:58

Ot but does anyone remember the thread aboit mixed coucil and private flats and the overwhelming consensus that it was unfair that the council tenant's could see the gardens but weren't allowed to use them?

terrylene · 28/07/2017 08:59

I would go for 'rookie' developers - or rookie cowboy developers anyway. I expect they are putting in features that will make it more saleable for a quick buck and bugger the consequences.

We had someone buy land at the bottom of our garden that has planning restrictions that mean you will never be able to build and has no access. They have tried every trick in the book; flattening it at least 3 times, assuming access through the nearby HA development, and haranguing the neighbours. Their behaviour would put the Gallagher family in Shameless into Debretts.......... and they all got sent to minor public schools so play the entitlement card whenever things get tough and treat the planners like servants.

The council have been priceless and one of the local councillors keeps me up to date on the gossip. They really are like dogs with a bone. However, their hands are tied by laws that mean they have to try everyway to teach the developers how to do it properly before they can clear the way to prosecute. However, if everyone has buggered off and is not engaging, it should be easier for them.

I would say be sure of your legal position and make sure all t's are crossed etc. I have learned a lot from the other neighbours about not getting wound up and knowing where to keep quiet which is why we are still here 10 years later. I wish they would bog off though Angry

Ours just wanted to buy land for next to nothing and make a killing and felt entitled to. They just go ahead and do it, then act surprised when it doesn't work out. They don't read rules. I am surprised who worked for them at times......like architects (maybe they got paid Hmm rather than sworn at).....but most never do it again. Wink

Theonethingididntwant · 28/07/2017 08:59

Do you think they've realised they may actually be in serious trouble for this and have scarpered? If they didn't realise before they damn well will have by now (assuming the builders haven't just run off themselves without telling them because they clearly knew they were in trouble) and they've probably spent the night in a cheap motel googling their crimes and peeking out a crack in the cheap blinds waiting to be arrested. Or they have found this thread and are expecting a lynch mob from mumsnet to greet them at their lovely new home complete with new stolen garden...

KeiraKnightleyActsWithHerTeeth · 28/07/2017 08:59

Using your garden in front of people who don't have a garden is like eating a burger in front of a starving man? Oh aye right, pet. Catch yourself on.

StarlitTrees · 28/07/2017 09:00

summer here's the original thread

I'm actually wondering if OP is currently knocking through an internal wall as she fancies a larger sitting room.

Figgygal · 28/07/2017 09:00

Print this out and stick it to their new door

Neighbour new door private garden thread #2
Gran22 · 28/07/2017 09:01

OP said garden/lack of garden was reflected in the price of the flats. Not everyone wants a garden anyway, if these neighbours do then they shouldn't have bought the flat!

Efferlunt · 28/07/2017 09:02

oblada we thought it was the buildings regs people who came to sign off something completely unrelated. Not that we were planning to rip anything out, after all no one had touched the house in years. There was this issue with what would have been the servant's staircase running up all five floors of the property, only one of its type left in the area but basically turned the building into a massive fire risk. Lots of wrangling but in the end we had it taken out after someone came round to draw and measure it for some sort of heritage purpose.

Jg1 · 28/07/2017 09:03

"but if you in a flat with no garden but could see a garden - a bit cruel - like eating a burger in front of a starving man."

Not cruel at all!
If they wanted a place with a garden they should have bought one. Not just think "oh, we don't have a garden!! I know, why don't we get some dodgy builders in, knock out the tatty small kitchen window, stick in some lush white plastic doos so we can pitch up in next doors garden as and when we please? Surely no one would mind?!" Grin

BoneyBackJefferson · 28/07/2017 09:03

From my limited knowledge of this and the one experience a friend had.

They had to replace the bricks with the same type, I am wondering if the builders have already sold the bricks and window to a specialist.

blueskyinmarch · 28/07/2017 09:05

Can you only access the garden through your house? How will the planning people know where to look?

Floellabumbags · 28/07/2017 09:07

According to Spookle's diagram is the other flat without a garden number 5?

Gowgirl · 28/07/2017 09:08

Sorry, just placemarking and waiting on the council!

CommonSenseIsNotAllThatCommon · 28/07/2017 09:09

It's not like eating a burger in front of a starving man for crying out loud.
My garden is huge. My neighbours are flats with no gardens. I don't feel its one bit cruel.

cricketballs · 28/07/2017 09:09

terrylene there are two different people similar to this near us! They both have land near each other and they are constantly putting in for permission with slightly altered plans and the whole merry go round starts again

Jg1 · 28/07/2017 09:09

Bluesky

I'm sure the inspectors are able to knock/ring on OPs front door

Foreverhopeful22 · 28/07/2017 09:10

What time are inspectors coming? Bet they won't be happy

blueskyinmarch · 28/07/2017 09:11

Jg1. That assuming OP told them her details and told them to come to hers! Am just checking. I wouldn't like there to be any obstacles to them getting in!

relaxitllbeok · 28/07/2017 09:12

We have a shared garden which we actually don't go into much (it's down several flights of stairs, usually find if you're going that far you may as well go out) but still love looking at it, and the fact that it gets maintained by the people who use it more and all we have to do is contribute to costs occasionally - works for us, so I can believe there are people perfectly happy with CFN's legal situation.

Re bookmarking - nothing except posting gets you access to the deletion message if the thread goes, as popular ones so often do. I hate not knowing whether it was an OP- requested deletion for being too identifying or a dodgy thread or something else. MNHQ have been asked so many times to find a solution to this, but as with so many other things...

Jg1 · 28/07/2017 09:13

Bluesky

Oh no!! Please don't say that!
They MUST get in there! I can't bare the thought of them not Shock

RainyDayBear · 28/07/2017 09:14

I have just let DD watch an extra twenty minutes of Peppa Pig so I can catch up on this thread! Can't wait to hear what planning have to say...
