God, what a horribly stressful situation to find yourself in. I would totally hide behind closed curtains tonight.

user1498726699 · 27/07/2017 16:54

Where is the access route to your garden OP? If it is only through your property then the neighbours must be well aware it is yours and this is not a 'I didn't realise' scenario. In that case I would get ready for a ding dong because they are obviously complete cunts. Even if they say they just wanted doors there so they could open them for air, and have no intention of stepping outside, that will still be a gross invasion of your privacy.

Cheekyfuckerdoorzilla! Thread has everything. Settles in for days with Cake and Brew followed shortly by Gin.
Terrible for you OP.

NettletheElf did CFN have to take the conservatory down?

TimeFliesWhenYoureHavingGin · 27/07/2017 16:55

Chuckling at GutterStar's delight at 'real time updates' tomorrow. I am too but will be driving to the East coast, as a passenger, so hoping to have time to regularly check in on these updates before we reach our destination with limited wifi Angry

AnnieOH1 · 27/07/2017 16:55

Might sound a bit devils advocate but could it be they've installed it as a fire door with no intention of using it unless they need to. Just thinking in light of recent events. They may even have a right of egress in the event of a fire.

I would also recommend downloading a copy of their deeds from land registry. Our home has access rights over part of next doors driveway but their deeds are silent. It's more common than you think. Xx

rjay123 · 27/07/2017 16:56

Have you a side access to your garden? I'd padlock it if you do

ASDismynormality · 27/07/2017 16:56

You probably want to inform the neighbours above them incase it has made the building unsound so they can contact their building insurance. What a nightmare!

TimeFliesWhenYoureHavingGin · 27/07/2017 16:56

Not making light of your situation though, OP. It's bloody shitty and I'm hoping you get somewhere tomorrow.

Bluntness100 · 27/07/2017 16:57

They can't just install a fire door, it's listed. The whole issue is it's listed. That changes the whole thing. If it was just a normal house it would be very different.

MiddleClassProblem · 27/07/2017 16:58

Fingers crossed they are just clueless and extremely horrified about being so short sighted etc

And you saying you hope you made a mistake, surely they still should have notified you about needing access to your garden etc. No way is this something you've got wrong, irregardless of planning permission and a grade listed building, it's not their land!

SnugglyBedSocks · 27/07/2017 17:00

Did OP post a diagram?

NotAUserNumberSoNotATroll · 27/07/2017 17:01

Was it an oriel window?

SoPassRemarkable · 27/07/2017 17:01

I think you win craziest neighbour ever award! Hope building control hand their arse to them on a plate.

HepKestrel · 27/07/2017 17:01

I was thinking the same as you Annie....

user1498726699 · 27/07/2017 17:01

Anyone with a hint of reasonableness would have mentioned any work like that, especially if it was taking place when they weren't there to supervise, to a neighbour anyway even if they believed it to be a 'shared' garden.

They're fuckers. Don't compromise or back down FGS!

RainyDayBear · 27/07/2017 17:02

I think Annie has a good idea about getting a copy of the land registry info (it's not much) as that might be handy to refer to tomorrow too.

I am very excited about live updates!

BeyondThePage · 27/07/2017 17:02

Wow - I just cannot believe the entitlement of some people - listed building changes, accessing a neighbour's garden, leaving it in a state and not so much as a "we were thinking of...."

I hope the book gets thrown at them.

Take care.

newdaddie · 27/07/2017 17:03

Is all of the garden listed in the title of your flat or is just access to the garden? And is the CFNs window/door wall listed as a party wall?

I'm curious if the garden is actually communal land that OP gets exclusive use of by default as none of the neighbours can access it due the conservation of the block of buildings.

friedegs · 27/07/2017 17:03

This will be in the Daily Mail for sure. See how long it takes...

MrsMoastyToasty · 27/07/2017 17:03

Have you contacted the freeholder?

Laska5772 · 27/07/2017 17:04

OP ask the planners if they can secure the area with Heras fence..as it may now be a dangerous structure ( the metal temp building site fence) or if not hire some from your local hire shop and get it back on house insurance. then claim, against neighbours

ItWentInMyEye · 27/07/2017 17:05

Shock madness!

diddl · 27/07/2017 17:06

They might have done it for many reasons but because they weren't kind/polite enough to speak to Op she doesn't know.

Also, the builders might not know all of the ins & outs, but they have worked on a listed building without checking for permission & provided access into a garden where there was none previously.

Arses!
