Very annoying.

At the very least out of common courtesy neighbours could have informed you they were doing work.

All neighbours around here text each other if they are doing anything noisy dusty or whatever. No one minds.

And by the way what is a CFN? I am guessing it is two swear words followed by Neighbour, but I am innocent to many of these abbreviations!

pieceofpurplesky · 27/07/2017 15:04

Wow. What a nightmare

SomedayMyPrinceWillCome · 27/07/2017 15:04

Cheeky fucking neighbour

IncyWincyGrownUp · 27/07/2017 15:04

Cheeky Fucker Neighbour rosie :)

Bearsinmotion · 27/07/2017 15:05
Shock
Inertia · 27/07/2017 15:05

I'd get straight on to planning/ enforcement/listed buildings team (all of them!) at the council, don't wait to speak to your neighbour first.

Motoko · 27/07/2017 15:05

To all those saying maybe the neighbours thought it was a communal garden, if it was communal, they would have already had access to it.

AlpacasPackOwls · 27/07/2017 15:05

Listed? Oh dear, that's some expensive unusable doors they've put in once they've paid the fine.

alibongo5 · 27/07/2017 15:05

And by the way what is a CFN? Cheeky Fucker Neighbour

Is it fenced off? OP said that the only way the builder could have accessed it was through the now missing kitchen window!

FuzzyOwl · 27/07/2017 15:06

I would just leave everything as it is and call your council now for advice on the next action to take. They may want to come round and see the evidence.

Is there any damage to your garden? I would report that as well, just in case it needs to be repaired and you end up claiming anything on your insurance.

LaurieFairyCake · 27/07/2017 15:06

I reckon the council would come out immediately and slap an enforcement notice on.

GutterStar · 27/07/2017 15:06

The builders sound dodgy...so you live alone, OP? So please take care of your personal safety. Six unknown men gained access to your property today. Flowers

bellabasset · 27/07/2017 15:06

Cheeky blighters. Obviously not a bona fide double glazing contractor, just cowboys.

Have you been able to check the details of sale from an estate agency or look up details of their lease on the Land Registry? If you have recently bought your flat then you will be pretty familiar with any requirements of the freeholder, if it is not jointly owned by the leaseholders, and of maintenance agreements.

What I would do, if you have one that is, would be to put the parasol base, garden umbrella and chairs outside the doors so it prevents them from being opened easily to access the garden, while not totally preventing access In case of emergency. I liked the bike chain idea but could be an access issue for emergencies.

FuzzyOwl · 27/07/2017 15:07

Listed? Oh dear, that's some expensive unusable doors they've put in once they've paid the fine.

Even more expensive as they will have to pay for them to be removed and the window reinstalled - all presumably without access to the OP's garden.

guinnessgirl · 27/07/2017 15:07

Unbelievable. This is my face right now --> Shock this goes beyond the cheekiest of cheeky fuckers. Incredible. I hope the relevant authorities can enforce the reversing of the works. BrewCakeFlowers for you OP, how very stressful and unnecessary.

GutterStar · 27/07/2017 15:07

*do you live alone?
*Do please

LagunaBubbles · 27/07/2017 15:07

Someone who arranges this without talking to their neighbour first wont be the most approachable of people I suspect.

Sychnant · 27/07/2017 15:08

I liked the bike chain idea but could be an access issue for emergencies.

how can this be an issue when it was never an access point??

ElspethFlashman · 27/07/2017 15:08

They must be nutters to think they'd get away with shoving French doors into a listed building! Shock

strangeclouds · 27/07/2017 15:10

Maybe they've been climbing out of the window and using your garden when you're at work, like the drive-thief on the parking thread, and the new door was to make it easier. I think you should set up a camera for security as well as getting the council on the case.

cjt110 · 27/07/2017 15:10

So did they think the previous occupiers just hopped in and out of the window to access the garden Hmm If they claim ignorance then they are just bullshitting I bet.

Flumpernickel · 27/07/2017 15:11

OP what a nightmare! But thank you so much for bringing us a new zilla thread... Blush I am ashamedly excited about this cheeky fuckery!

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 27/07/2017 15:11

Who owns the freehold? Have you contacted them too?

Questioningeverything · 27/07/2017 15:11

Builderziller!

MrsSchadenfreude · 27/07/2017 15:12

I hope the doors weren't actually installed and that they have a huge and insecure hole in the side of their flat...
