Parking wars - on my own drive !

I know the rules, diagram is attached. 😉

I'm on half days this week and have just got home to find a car in my driveway. As we are a corner house we have two driveways, big enough for one car each. Parking is really tight around here and permit only too. Opposite us is 8 terraced houses with no allocated parking, so quite often they either park in their garages or in the handful or visitor bays opposite my place but in front of theirs. My front drive is VERY clearly my driveway.

Cheeky Fucker Neighbour (CFN) runs a business from home which involves a lot of clients coming and going from her house throughout the day (pet groomer) and he employs two people to help.

I came home today to find a car in my drive which was not DHs. So I park down the side (pink section) of the house on the road where neighbours park their cars. I go and knock on several doors to find out who it belongs too, turns out it's one of the employees who is staying for a little while longer (P/T). "But I'll only be another hour, so I'll move it then." I reply "No, move it now please as I have to unload my car." Person refuses and I end up leaving telling them to move it within 30 minutes.

That was an hour ago and when I knock on the door there is no answer.

My next door neighbour has just told me that this car is on either my front drive or rear drive each morning ! When he questioned them about it, apparently CFN has said it's OK for them to park there and they have cleared it with us. No they bloody haven't!

Thing is this went on last year but after words it sooner stopped but obviously they are doing it again.

I'm sat here glaring out my front window waiting for the fucker to move his car then we will have words. I would block it in, but the road is only wide enough for one car so would block the road.

Ghetto?? 'Still there'

Writerwannabe83 · 27/07/2017 07:49

I can't believe this!!!!

As has been said, they'll move their car when you're at work and they'll have gotten away with it with no drama Sad

leighdinglady · 27/07/2017 07:50

They might be leaving it there for the rest of the week!

1sttime84 · 27/07/2017 07:54

Does this mean we have to wait til the end of the day for more updates OP?
Fuming for you.

acatcalledjohn · 27/07/2017 07:55

Surely this is the time to install a permanent bollard? That way they can only get their car back if they pay the appropriate fee.

I'd take emergency leave to get this fixed. Priorities, Alpha... Grin

alibongo5 · 27/07/2017 07:57

I think you should be very kind and take the flat battery out of the car and take it indoors to put it on charge for them. Leave a note on the car to say that you have do e this and they they can ask you for it when it's convenient to you. Then go away for a while.
Dammit I bet the car is locked! So that won't work.

acatcalledjohn · 27/07/2017 07:58

Tell dog woman that if anything like this ever happens again you will tell the council that her business is causing nuisance parking.

Do this anyway. The cheek of them.

Writerwannabe83 · 27/07/2017 07:58

Can I ask a stupid question? What's so special about Penguin bollards as I see them mentioned all the time Grin

Surely they can be moved anyway which someone will do if they really want to park somewhere?

Or is there something special about them that means they can't be moved hence why they are always suggested?

Mix56 · 27/07/2017 08:01

leave a message on the car, & say any normal lucid person would have apologised & removed the car immediately, the police have been round & they will be contacting him. & get a chain /penguin bollard today.
Tosser

Youshallnotpass · 27/07/2017 08:01

Penguin bollards can be locked with a padlock so only the owner can put them down to park.

In all honesty I wouldn't be surprised if this car ended up vandalised... cough

EnglandKeepMyBones · 27/07/2017 08:03

Surely it's time to call the police and tell them it's been abandoned?

RainyApril · 27/07/2017 08:08

Surely any normal person would've moved it when you first asked, with an apology and very little drama.

By leaving it there overnight they've intentionally escalated things, are they trying to antagonise you?

I would have to retaliate hard, cheeky bastards. Bang on door now, before work, and tell him you're reporting his business for nuisance parking. Baby oil on car, or kind neighbour blocking it in. Bollard or chain by end of day. TBH I'd probably have booked a day of work to sort it out!

TestTubeTeen · 27/07/2017 08:09

Of course, the car owner could have inhaled a fur ball, choked almost to death and been driven to hospital by dog business woman...

But you would expect such a crisis to have been reported, with accompanying apols, by dog woman on her return.

And it's no excuse, Really. Apart from the moment the shout 'Clear' and everyone stands back for the electric resist things, she would have had plenty of time to rummage through her unconscious friends pockets for the car keys.

gingergenius · 27/07/2017 08:10

OMFG! Still There?!?!?!? Take the day off sick and sit on your front doorstep with a shotgun (kidding obvs)

Who the FUCK does that. And the police will do nothing. I still maintain you should cut the fuel pipe and then ask the police to move it because it's a hazard!

BillyDaveysDaughter · 27/07/2017 08:10

Aaaargh "BATTERY FLAT" MY ARSE.

Good God people are insufferable aren't they? All this effort to be arrogant, ignorant and selfish and then run from the repercussions, when the CFN employee could have simply NOT PARKED ON SOMEONE ELSE'S DRIVE and bloody walked from around the corner or something.

The brass neck and sense of pig-headed entitlement is astounding, second only to the utterly unbelievable fact that there doesn't seem to be anything you can do about it legally. If only there were a way of doing something to massively inconvenience the selfish parker. Like, getting it towed so they have to pay for release.

KitKat1985 · 27/07/2017 08:11

Yes they will sneak onto your drive whilst you are both out and drive off. Definitely cover the car in flour and water before you go.

When are you back this evening to give us an update? I've got a long day to fill and I need something to focus on. Grin

Oldbutstillgotit · 27/07/2017 08:14

Sorry but this calls for a sickie.

acornsandnuts · 27/07/2017 08:14

Can you call an emergency bricklayer and build a wall across your drive within the next hour.

CoraPirbright · 27/07/2017 08:16

Please don't leave for work without doing something to the sod's car - surely you have some suncream to hand or some such. You have to do something because, as sure as eggs is eggs, that car will have gone by the time you get back!

JennyOnAPlate · 27/07/2017 08:17

You can't go to work op!!!!

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 27/07/2017 08:17

writer the Penguin Bollards is a reference to a thread a couple of years ago when a poster had a similar issue with the house next door which was rented out and the landlord told the tenants that they could park on the piece of land between the poster and the landlord's house. Except it was her land. She spoke to the tenants but they were adamant that parking was included in the rent so wouldn't move and the landlord want contactable afaicr.

She posted here asking for advice and someone recommended bollards shaped like penguins, and posted a link. Several.people following the thread clicked on the link and found that they kept getting pop-ups from the penguin bollard company advertising the bollards. They were very cute looking though!

OP I would be making and shaming on social media. I would also see if any neighbours were around during the day and could park over the driveway so she couldn't remove her car.. I would also wait until a client arrives and then go and have the conversation about parking in front of the client. You are being far too nice!

C0untDucku1a · 27/07/2017 08:18

Omg ive just spent an hour reading the thread to find fhe car still there?!

mrsheathy85 · 27/07/2017 08:21

Shameless post marking

gingergenius · 27/07/2017 08:22

Write 'wanker' on the bonnet in ketchup. I Ben after it washes off the work will be there because the acidity of the tomato eats into the paintwork!
(Lighthearted)

flumpybear · 27/07/2017 08:24

Before you leave write a 'no uncertain terms' letter and sellotape it to the windscreen as PO said something g about private parking only, o right to park there under any circumstances and you'll report to the council that the business is causing problems and issues with the neighbours, and report on her Facebook or twitter site too, nicely, but that parking causes issues

Also perhaps consider putting a temporary sigh somewhere on your driveway
