Parking wars - on my own drive !

I know the rules, diagram is attached. 😉

I'm on half days this week and have just got home to find a car in my driveway. As we are a corner house we have two driveways, big enough for one car each. Parking is really tight around here and permit only too. Opposite us is 8 terraced houses with no allocated parking, so quite often they either park in their garages or in the handful or visitor bays opposite my place but in front of theirs. My front drive is VERY clearly my driveway.

Cheeky Fucker Neighbour (CFN) runs a business from home which involves a lot of clients coming and going from her house throughout the day (pet groomer) and he employs two people to help.

I came home today to find a car in my drive which was not DHs. So I park down the side (pink section) of the house on the road where neighbours park their cars. I go and knock on several doors to find out who it belongs too, turns out it's one of the employees who is staying for a little while longer (P/T). "But I'll only be another hour, so I'll move it then." I reply "No, move it now please as I have to unload my car." Person refuses and I end up leaving telling them to move it within 30 minutes.

That was an hour ago and when I knock on the door there is no answer.

My next door neighbour has just told me that this car is on either my front drive or rear drive each morning ! When he questioned them about it, apparently CFN has said it's OK for them to park there and they have cleared it with us. No they bloody haven't!

Thing is this went on last year but after words it sooner stopped but obviously they are doing it again.

I'm sat here glaring out my front window waiting for the fucker to move his car then we will have words. I would block it in, but the road is only wide enough for one car so would block the road.

I would pay a contractor to tow the vehicle from your drive in to a legal parking space on the road, you are perfectly within your rights to do that.

Inform your neighbour tonight with a note through the door that's what will be happening if her employee doesn't immediately return to move the car themselves.

If it isn't gone by morning get it towed, put a chain with lock across both drive entrances and possibly locked gates in the longer term if that's feasible.

Groovee · 26/07/2017 18:39

I'd be tempted to get a load of people round and dump it on CFN's front garden.

magicstar1 · 26/07/2017 18:39

I just don't understand how you let her leave it there in the first place. When she refused I'd have made sure she knew she'd have four flat tyres and no windows left in 2 minutes.
I had this once when a guy blocked my motorbike in and went to a meeting in his pub a few doors down. His staff told me he was too busy to move it so I laid out what I was going to do and he came running out. Hasn't done it since.

bluesbaby · 26/07/2017 18:41

You need a rugby team. Apparently it is possible to lift a car to move it ... ;)

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 26/07/2017 18:41

So is the car left on OP's drive for the night since they're both gone??

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 26/07/2017 18:43

I'd be at b&q buying the stuff to fit a chain and padlock. That would give me the rage. Dh would be calm and measured I'd be like a banshee. He'd help me erect the billiards though Grin

Fluffyears · 26/07/2017 18:44

Get a chain upmbehind it and tell them you'll unlock the chain....when you feel like it.

blankface · 26/07/2017 18:44

If you're normally out while the car is parked there, I'd just make an arrangement with the neighbour that you're paid for the use of it

No, never do this, any informal arrangements can lead to them gaining legal rights to use your property in the future whether you like it or not. Then your house-value plummets because you've effectively lost the use and after a long time undisputed, the ownership of that piece of land.

Wheelycote · 26/07/2017 18:45

Haven't made it to the end of thread yet but I'm with everyone!!

And Jaques is the business registered and OK to ran from home.....

Mumzzy88 · 26/07/2017 18:45

I have this often I come home in the middle of the night often parking on the street as my neighbors daughters boyfriend parks over my drive omg it's frustrating. And op pointless posting negative on social media as usually you have to be accepted into the group page and they will just erase your comments unfortunately but good luck I feel your pain Flowers

Goodasgoldilox · 26/07/2017 18:47

It is illegal to clamp BUT:

'No offence would be committed where a driver was prevented from leaving because the vehicle's exit was blocked by a fixed barrier.'

RestingBitchFaced · 26/07/2017 18:47

Can't believe their bloody cheek! How are you so calm OP?

Wheelycote · 26/07/2017 18:47

Might be a legit business but doesn't mean they can legally run from home

WineAndTiramisu · 26/07/2017 18:50

Definitely padlock a chain across, then go out for the whole of tomorrow...

YoYoNoMore · 26/07/2017 18:52

Op, if we had a RL MN network, I'm sure a group of outraged women would be strong enough to bump the car from your driveway. Or take it in turns to wait for CFN employee to return so they couldn't sneak off while you were at work.

Ceto · 26/07/2017 18:52

CFN is probably planning to sneak back in the middle of the night to move the car. It would be a shame if the tyre valves had developed leaks.

MycatsaPirate · 26/07/2017 18:54

God you lot are vindictive!

I like it. Keep it coming :o

Flamingosarepink · 26/07/2017 18:54

Get yourself down a local DIY store and chain it in with padlocks. Get a No Parking sign too.
Parking there was rude enough. Refusing to move and now abandoning the car thete is beyond rude. Chain it in and go snd visit relatives/go on holiday for 2 weeks (longer of possible).

Fuck them. 2 can play the dissapearing act!

RTKangaMummy · 26/07/2017 18:55

Email local newspaper

Deffo get a chain and padlock tonight to stop them moving it when you go out in morning

Scrumptiousbears · 26/07/2017 18:57

Do they have a FB page. Leave a shit review telling them to get of your drive.

BoffinMum · 26/07/2017 18:57

A nice delivery of logs or bark for the garden/fireplace would be perfect. After all, it's your driveway so you are entitled to have things delivered to it. And they did not check if you were expecting a delivery.

Wheelycote · 26/07/2017 18:57

I've missed a bit....the cfne has abandoned the carShock what the sweet begeesus!!!!

RebootYourEngine · 26/07/2017 18:58

I love a parking thread.

Can anyone remember the one where the OP blocked the car in overnight? Think it was a mum at the local school. Was there a fayre or school trip or something, cant exactly remember but it was a good threaf.

mellicauli · 26/07/2017 18:58

The problem is that your neighbour has a business in a residential area and that is causing the problem. I would report them to council to see ifthey gave permission to use their house as a place of business. They should be able to check if it is allowed, business rates have been paid etc.

More extreme option is to look at their deeds of covenant at the land registry to see if there is any bar on running a business from their home. If there is you could use this as a bargaining chip with the business owner (i.e. Don't be a parking nuisance or I'll take you to court to enforce my rights and you'll have to pay for proper premises).

Namechangetempissue · 26/07/2017 18:59

Would also plaster all over facebook local pages and company page of they have one -complete with photos. All tyres would be flat when they returned (not slashed!).
