To think some people are just downright rude?

Reading through some threads and, although there are lots of lovely people on her, there are many who just come on to spout shit and judge others.

I reiterate there are loads of lovely posters however I can see how a quick glance through some other threads may stop others posting for support.

Agreed.

MaisyPops · 25/07/2017 20:51

Surely that's just life though.

Some people are rude all the time and like being bitchy.
Some people are nice most of the time but have bad moods where they're not as sympathetic as they could be.
Some people are blunt and honest even when it's not always helpful.
Some people start off being reasonable on threads and get irritated so become more irritable in their responses.

Plus some threads recently seem to feel a little like they tick a number of boxes designed to press people's buttons. I wouldn't go as far as saying they're hairy handed & were written under a bridge but there are certain things guaranteed to create a more fed up discussion

MrsExpo · 25/07/2017 20:53

Totally agree. It's almost as if some people have to be rude to make their point (if they ever had one!!) instead of giving a considered (and polite) opinion on the matter in hand.

Another forum I go on has rules about rudeness and swearing and posts get pulled if they cross the line but that's the case on here.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 25/07/2017 20:53

MN is like any group or society - there will be nice people and nasty ones, saints and sinners. It would be naive to expect anything else.

CockacidalManiac · 25/07/2017 20:53

It's been like this as long as I remember.

MyPatronusIsAUnicorn · 25/07/2017 20:56

Many of the posters on here wouldn't ever say the kind of crap they come out with on here. I've never met anyone if RL who talks the way some do on here. It's always on AIBU, sometimes relationships and creeping more and more onto chat too, it's quite off putting and it certainly has put me off posting threads due to responses I've had in the past.

Personal abuse will still get you deleted on here.

BroomHandledMouser · 25/07/2017 20:58

I thought this too the other day.

It doesn't seem to matter what type of thread it is - either a jokey lighthearted one or a serious question - there's always a goady bastard who likes to make someone feel that little bit worse.

I've noticed it a lot of late, but I don't know if it's because I've been on a a bit more because I'm trying to ignore my children

Sparklingbrook · 25/07/2017 20:58

There are some people on here who just like to be contrary for the sake of it I think.

I can't take threads posted in AIBU seriously.

PinkHeart5911 · 25/07/2017 20:58

It's like real life really. Some people are just rude. You get nice ones and nasty ones

Bluntness100 · 25/07/2017 20:59

Honestly do you not see the irony in your op? Isn't it the most judgemental thing you can do to start a thread solely for the purpose of negatively judging others?

HeartburnCentral · 25/07/2017 21:00

AIBU is definitely not for the faint of heart. Certain topics seem to bring out the worst in some.

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 25/07/2017 21:01

I prefer forums with a variety of responses. I was on one where the moderation was very tight and everyone was just sycophantic and sickly sweet. It was awful.

Much better to scan past the occasional poisonous idiots and take the constructive criticism where relevant than have a bunch of mindless zombies agreeing with you.

CockacidalManiac · 25/07/2017 21:03

I like a good bunfight as much as anyone. Sometimes you just have to step away; it helps that I know that you're all imaginary people that live in my phone.

Sparklingbrook · 25/07/2017 21:03

Hide Topic and Hide Thread are good functions. A Hide Poster would be a good addition but it will never happen.

HattiesBackpack · 25/07/2017 21:04

It does feel as though there is a bit more nastiness on here at the moment.
And posters becoming very hostile to those who have a different opinion, which is a real shame because I like the diversity of opinions on mumsnet.

ziggzagg · 25/07/2017 21:05

Yes I started a thread about something that is bothering me Shock

I realize the irony but it just needed saying. I'm not personally insulting those people, they have opinions too Grin

I just feel if you are going to be downright nasty, rude or insulting scroll past and let people get the support they may not have in RL

Hello to all you lovely people Flowers

Yes. I hide all the trans ones now. It's easier that way.

Bluntness100 · 25/07/2017 21:09

I'm fairly sure that saying someone is rude and spouting shite is both judgemental and insulting,,,whys it ok if you do it, but not others? Confused

ziggzagg · 25/07/2017 21:10

Speaking in general terms about some posts I've seen. Not singling anyone out specifically. I'd understand your point if I were commenting individually calling people rude, spouting shit etc.

OP posts:
AuroraBora · 25/07/2017 21:14

I actually love the diversity of opinions and views on here. There's been many a thread I've read which has made me really think about a view different to my default, and I think that can only be a good thing.

However, the number of posters that come on and are just straight up cunty for no real reason seems to have been increasing recently. So many threads where I just roll my eyes and click back out of it because the first few responses are along the lines of:

"You sound needy OP" or "you sound so high maintenance" and "Omg can't believe you'd bother posting about such a non-issue" Hmm

Sparklingbrook · 25/07/2017 21:15

There are a lot of non issues posted about TBF. Grin

BabychamSocialist · 25/07/2017 21:17

Meh. Most of our lives are spent conforming to social niceties and making small-talk and not telling people what we think. I think people come to MN so they can dispense with that.

AIBU is more full-on than the rest of the site though.

LovelyBath77 · 25/07/2017 21:17

A lot seem pretty angry.

I don't agree. Keyboard wankers warriors say things online, anonymously" they would not say IRL face to face ( or even by email etc)
