AIBU?
AIBU to dye my hair bright purple?

Lighthearted
Ok, i've bought the dye, shall I do it? trying to build up courage
I'm 45, mumsy, quite conservative, frumpy boring not something I would normally do but it's summer and I work term time. I feel like having a blow out and doing something unexpected.
Dh is just raising his eyebrows at me.
Shall I?

What's it going to look like as its growing out? That's what would put me off. I've stopped dying my hair anyway, as i felt I was becoming allergic. But it was a real faff growing all the dye out. I'd be tempted by the really bright unicorn hair if I was to dye again :)

Are your proper dying it? Or is this a wash in/out thing?
It's just that if it's a proper dye you're going to have to bleach it out and re-colour in 5 weeks. Not good for your hair. Plus £££.
Apart from that aspect - your hair; do whatever you like :)

I really fancy doing this too! No way I could do it while working, but currently on maternity leave so theoretically plenty of time for my hair to return to normal before going back. Slightly concerned about it though as mine is dark brown, very long (so I assume would need loads of bleach) and has never been dyed before!

Do it do it do it.
Before my amazing mum turned 60, she would always say harp on how when she turned 60 she would dye her hair purple. None of us believed her and just thought it was a silly phase.
Lo and behold, on her 60th birthday morning she comes trotting down the stairs with the most fabulous purpley-mauve hair.
She was a city councillor at the time and was cooped up in the chambers with a load of stuffy old men all day, I think it was her little bit of rebellion
Go for it, if you don't like it after a few days just pop down the hairdresser and get it lifted out.
God speed!

Most 'fun' colour dyes won't take on unbleached hair. You could always do what I did, got a professional ombrebbleach on the ends with backcombing and use directions or manic panic to add colour. Then you can cut it out when bored and the maintenance is much easier. Let us know though!
