Lighthearted
Ok, i've bought the dye, shall I do it? trying to build up courage

I'm 45, mumsy, quite conservative, frumpy boring not something I would normally do but it's summer and I work term time. I feel like having a blow out and doing something unexpected.
Dh is just raising his eyebrows at me.

Shall I?

Almost have you tried vitamin C tablets mixed into a paste to help fade the colour?

theoldtrout01876 · 27/07/2017 00:26

You awesome women and your awesome hair have inspired me. Can anyone recommend a temporary midnight blue colour that would work on mousey hair with bits of grey in it?

Cleanermaidcook · 27/07/2017 21:15

I used manic panic. It comes in blue too, it's semi permanent and says should last 4 to 6 weeks. I left ithe on for an hour rather than the 30 minutes it said on the tub. Xx

And it took? Brilliant. I've actually been thinking about this for months. Thank you!

SuperBeagle · 27/07/2017 21:22

EVO does coloured conditioners. You put them in your hair, the colour stays in for 3-ish washes and is then out completely. I have a bottle of pink 😊

Might be an idea if you're not confident you'll like the result.

Whisky2014 · 27/07/2017 21:24

Sorry to say I am not a fan. Looks cheap to me. I'd get that colour be gone stuff and redye a natural colour.
I'll don't my hard hat now.

winchesterfan · 27/07/2017 21:27

Well Whisky2014, it's a good thing that it's not your hair and that the OP probably doesn't give a crap what you think!

winchesterfan · 27/07/2017 21:27

OP, it looks great! Mines pink whilst I'm off work

Whisky2014 · 27/07/2017 21:27

Well she did ask if she should do it :s

mumoseven · 27/07/2017 21:32

I just did it today! I'm 56, and its summer holidays. Pinky purple!

cardibach · 27/07/2017 21:38

But she didn't ask for your judgement after, Whisky. Rude.

Whisky2014 · 27/07/2017 21:41

Ummmmgogo · 27/07/2017 21:44

Cleanermaidcook · 27/07/2017 21:50

Haha it's ok Whisky This is aibu after all, I promise not to come round and dye yours 😂😂 I really like it now it's done but then I am cheap and probably common.

Gentian violet. That's the stuff. You used to be able to get it from the chemist. There was a fad for adding a few drops to the final rinse water to give fair hair a sort of beigey look (sounds odd but it was really nice). Flatmate and I got carried away one weekend and decided to add whole lot, as a result of which I had to go to office on the Monday with bright purple hair. Took ages to wash out but it did eventually - just faded gradually away, didn't affect my hair at all. Happy days.

Ummmmgogo · 27/07/2017 22:01

that came across wrong! but pound shop often have purple lipstick nail varnish and eyeshadow actually! xx

WhiskyIrnBru · 27/07/2017 22:06

This whisky loves it! Looks fab OP

Cleanermaidcook · 27/07/2017 22:07

Haha no it's ok ummmmgogo I thought you were being tongue in cheek. My work uniform is purple, pity I'm off for summer. I match my cushions and curtains too which is a bonus 😂😂

OP posts:
SpearmintTea · 27/07/2017 22:57

Go for it. Purple tends to fade faster than other colours, but if you need to you can always dye it back to your natural colour.

ShakeShakeTheMuffin · 27/07/2017 23:25

It's great having strange coloured hair. Although blue hair seems to be very common these days. 🙄
