Lighthearted
Ok, i've bought the dye, shall I do it? trying to build up courage

I'm 45, mumsy, quite conservative, frumpy boring not something I would normally do but it's summer and I work term time. I feel like having a blow out and doing something unexpected.
Dh is just raising his eyebrows at me.

Shall I?

Do it! I did similar last year, and in fact ended up going back to work with a slightly toned down version of it. Lots of compliments and I feel much more myself and less dowdy.

TiredMumToTwo · 25/07/2017 17:24

Do it, I've recently been fantasising about dyeing mine pink as am very blonde highlighted & really feel like doing something mega different!

TiredMumToTwo · 25/07/2017 17:25

Go for it!

I'd recommend that you do something really revolutionary along with dyeing your hair, (which is in and of itself rather tame) but purple hair sounds like a good start. Smile

troodiedoo · 25/07/2017 17:32

I did mine last year and I'm 37 and overweight. Had the most compliments I've ever had for any do in my life. Be warned you can't do anything low key with purple hair though.

Only went back to brown because the up keep of time and money is not sustainable for me.

stevie69 · 25/07/2017 17:33

Of course you should Grin

Here's a selection of mine. I'm a chartered accountant: doesn't get any more conservative than that. Enjoy your new look.

do it

EsmeWeatherwax · 25/07/2017 17:36

The person who warned you that it will be green forever, listen to them. I had slices of bright purple put through my hair a year or so ago, and they are still green now, despite being dyed red once to counteract it and dark brown twice. It doesn't happen to everybody, but if it does you're stuck with it. I really, really regret it.

Cleanermaidcook · 25/07/2017 17:36

Stevie, that looks amazing, how long does it last?!

OP, as others have said there might be a period when it doesn't look great, as long as you are prepared for that go for it! I've used the one Mumoncrack posted, looks ok, not as bright as I'd hoped but my hair is very dark so I don't notice it growing out so much.

RebelRogue · 25/07/2017 17:47

Do it. First day of the summer hols i bleached, then did my hair blue, purple and pink. Been waiting since xmas for this. Grin

stevie69 · 25/07/2017 17:50

Stevie, that looks amazing, how long does it last?!

Each new style lasts a couple of months, providing I don't wash it. I know, I know but .... it's shaved so short it doesn't need washing so I just pop some coconut oil through it each morning.

After a couple of months, it gets too long Shock and I go and have it shaved. It then stays dark brown until I contact my colourist and say 'Hey, it's time for new hair'. She does the designs: I don't even see it until it's finished.

crazywriter · 25/07/2017 17:52

I dipdyed my hair. First emerald green and second blue (I have it as that now). My sister doesn't like it but I and the kids adore it. If you can't have fun with hair, what can you have fun with?

Depending on the dye, colours aren't damaging and they do fade. My hair takes colour really well so the green lasted 2 months before I dyed it again but I didn't have to. But the hairdresser was saying she was surprised since most find it fades after about 4 weeks.

I am lucky that my job allows me to have whatever colour hair I want.

Thank you so much. I'm feeling a bit 'meh' at the moment but, you know what they say .... the kindness of strangers. Very much appreciated Smile

EsmeWeatherwax · 25/07/2017 18:27

I posted about the green a minute ago, should also have said, when it was purple I totally loved it! And much awesomeness Stevie!

Toddlerteaplease · 25/07/2017 18:28

I really wanted purple in my hair but hairdresser said it would be only temporary. 😩so I had red instead. Love it
