Longleat Center Parcs, taking £600 a night to be on a 24hr building site! Aaagghh

Mumblebeebee · 25/07/2017 02:05

We are currently staying at Longleat centre parcs. Having saved for this for a year, it's costing an eye watering £600 a night for 4 nights. Total £2400.

What we weren't told was our villa was opposite a 24 hour construction site. Which, as I type is sounding like smashing bottles being thrown into a bottle bank crossed with several generators running.

I'm fuming, no sleep possible and we have 4 children to entertain tomorrow.

AIBU to have expected Center Parks not to have booked out our villa knowing this. Or at very least warned us.

Any advice? We've called customer services at 2am to be told that extra work was being carried out!

I'm not happy at all.

Have you got any photos or recordings of the noise and the building works? If you do have to leave make sure that you have evidence of the problem before you go.

Branleuse · 25/07/2017 12:47

That is really not good enough. Im so shocked at that shitty offer. They shouldnt be renting out the villas next to construction works in the first place. If they want you to go home, then they need to pay you compensation as well as a refund, because that is absolutely shit.

HemanOrSheRa · 25/07/2017 12:55

I cant get my head around why the person who scheduled this work thought it was ok to arrange it for the first week in the summer holidays (and presumably on going?) ! Surely anything other than emergency work is done out of season?! They are opening new water slides/rides/play areas in mid August Pyong. It's been heavily advertised as opening then. If the building work is connected to that then CP aren't going to give a shiney shite about OP. And I guess it's something that can only be done at night as it's connected to CP's main selling point - the pool area. Very poor on CP's part. They should have closed out of season and taken the hit to get the work finished.

It seems a rather OTT solution from CP though. What are they planning on doing with the lodge if OP leaves?! I bet othershe have complained so they are going with a blanket 'put up or get out'.

Slarti · 25/07/2017 12:57

But many people would not want to spend anytime in Pontins, that's why they pay more, to go somewhere else.

I was being sarcastic Blush

brokenshoes · 25/07/2017 13:03

Not read the whole thread yet, but a couple of previous posters picked the OP up on the spelling of Longleat. Can't see anything wrong with the spelling Confused. Unless it has since been corrected.

MsHarry · 25/07/2017 13:03

OP they want you to leave so they can refund you and recoup the cost by flogging your lodge to some poor unsuspecting customer as a last minute deal! Go to the top.

PyongyangKipperbang · 25/07/2017 13:04

Money has been a bit tight this year and DH's union offer discounts on holidays. We had a look and a week at Pontins was affordable.

We booked 2 days at Legoland instead.

Ijustwantaquietlife · 25/07/2017 13:15

I'm not sure if the last update is real, it's not in green.

Mumblebeebees · 25/07/2017 13:17

Sorry for the typos, I'm so tired my eyes are blurry.

We are mailing the CEO. It's just unacceptable, especially as they have confirmed the building work is 24/7 this week.

Why oh why didn't they warm us when they knew about this.

We are uploading the videos to the CEO which demonstrate the level of banging, crashing and general noise.

I'm not settling for a refund and then having to leave. It's is as adults who are being disturbed as children will sleep through most things.

But it's our holiday too. I can't just leave, for the sake of our children, it's not fair.

CP messed this up not us, why should the children be punished. There is not bother gap now in the summer hols to take them away again. And we don't have the option to take them out of school.

I don't know what I did to the name, yes it's still me.

Is this really you OP, or is someone playing silly beggars?

ShatnersWig · 25/07/2017 13:21

Mumble Do, as I suggested, try and speak to others. You will not be the only one who feels like this and I bet other people have no idea this is going to be the same night after night. The more of you who complain, the better the likely outcome

Ilovetolurk · 25/07/2017 13:22

Do you want to stay OP (and buy sleeping tablets / earplugs?)

If yes then my negotiating position would be stay on and continue to spend your money in resort with 80%+ refund. And go viral as suggested

If not I would accept the offer plus an appreciable discount off next stay (if you can face going back)

Ilovetolurk · 25/07/2017 13:24

What about regional news room I bet they would love to cover tour story

Jaxhog · 25/07/2017 13:25

I was under the impression that you had to get special permission from the council to have overnight building works. Which means that CentreParks would have known beforehand that this was happening. I'm really surprised that any council would have given this permission knowing that there would be paid guests, including children, next door. I think ABTA has rules about this too. Does anyone know what the rules are for informing holiday makers if there is known disruption?

Whatever, they should offer you a full refund AND a move.

PS. What you paid for your break is no-one's business but yours. Ignore the critics.

DirtyChaiLatte · 25/07/2017 13:27

Sorry, X post.

I think the fact someone authorised this work without giving a damn how it would affect paying guests' holidays if pretty shitty and callous behavior.

I wouldn't let this rest and let them get away with it.

I'd expect a full refund and an extra gesture of goodwill on top.

I think they're acting disgustingly but I can see why they want you to leave today. If they allow people to have a full holiday for free then it could be open to violation by people who aren't bothered by the noise but still trying to get a refund.

I am think they're still in the wrong for knowingly renting them out.

cansu · 25/07/2017 13:28

I would expect a significant refund but I dont think a full refund and a free holiday is realistic.

StealthPolarBear · 25/07/2017 13:28

This is awful customer service

Dailystuck71 · 25/07/2017 13:31

I'd expect a full refund and, if I were willing to stay a move to a same or better lodge. If I wanted to come home I'd expect a complimentary stay on top of my refund.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 25/07/2017 13:35

AS someone said above, if you go home they could resell the last two nights to another unsuspecting family as last minute (rubbish) deal

ILoveMyMonkey · 25/07/2017 13:35

This is shocking, they should have told you about the building works long before arrival. Is there any possibility that they could transfer you to another centre parcs elsewhere to start your 4 nights again? Hope you get a satisfactory result and your kids get a fab holiday.

FUNM · 25/07/2017 13:40

CEO MARTIN DALBY [email protected]

interesting old article about his income - wonder how much he earns now. Probably sleeps well at night; unlike his guests Angry

Jaxhog · 25/07/2017 13:41

According to Environmental Health:

"Where residential dwellings are likely to be affected by noise, the hours of noisy works must be restricted to:-
Monday to Friday: 8am to 6pm
Saturday: 8am to 1pm
Sunday and bank holidays: no noisy activities on site.

Hope that helps.

Lynnm63 · 25/07/2017 13:45

OP get the contact details of your neighbours. Tell CP you want a full refund and to stay for your dc sake who have SN. If they refuse tell them you'll sue. Issuing proceedings in Small Claims court is really simple.

Peakyblinder · 25/07/2017 13:48

We are going there the last week in August and sounds like our lodge is where yours is ?
In the 800s ?

We havent received anything to say there will be building work ? Did you ?

Lynnm63 · 25/07/2017 13:51

Shall we all email the CEO to tell him what we think of how his company has treated the OP?
