That men on mumsnet seem to have. And why people never just state them. "His hobby" sounds so pervy

Scrapbooking is surely out

Everything is pinterest this, insta that , didn't get that crap in 2002

JungleInTheRumble · 24/07/2017 07:35

My partner's hobby is scuba diving...very expensive and very time consuming. No relaxing holidays, every holiday is non stop diving...

Fortunately it's my hobby as well and I love it as much as he does!

WellErrr · 24/07/2017 07:40

at cod. Think of you every time I see an unmarked patrol car Grin

WellErrr · 24/07/2017 07:43

I have a friend (no really) whose hubby's hobby is hatching chicks in an incubator. Takes ages and costs loads in electric and there's feathers and shit galore.

She fucking hates poultry, I think she'd like to torch the lot.

bigchris · 24/07/2017 07:45

My brother in law collects speakers as his hobby

cod · 24/07/2017 07:50

It wasn't a thread, it was a sticky situation of mine!

WellErrr · 24/07/2017 08:24

And you are literally not allowed to say 'loons' here anymore, FYI

Toadinthehole · 24/07/2017 08:50

My hobby is perving the Mumsnet sex board.

I do have another hobby, but it would out me if I said what it is.

MrsGotobed · 24/07/2017 09:36

My DH plays Football Manager for a couple of hours on a Saturday. We call this "putting on his suit" which sounds incredibly kinky.

Vanillamanilla1 · 24/07/2017 13:55

Ahhhh but does he actually don a football kit Snappysnaps

ZippyCameBack · 24/07/2017 15:36

I wish my husband would have a hobby again - instead we just have an outhouse full of fucking hobby equipment that hasn't been touched in a gazillion years. In fact - maybe his hobby is collecting hobby equipment!
In that case my hobby would become selling his old hobby equipment on eBay!

AztecHero · 24/07/2017 15:59

I always refer to my DH;s hobby as 'cycling'.

Actually he has 3 - scuba diving, parachuting and sailing. All of which cost a fucking bomb and piss me off when he vanishes for weekends.

The discussions about this taking away from family time are ongoing.

And loud.

Giraffeski · 24/07/2017 16:04

YES YES YES THIS
I then get totally over invested in trying to find out what the hobby is. Its probably something really boring but hey ho.

I always imagine the 'hobby' to be either historic re-enactments or Airfix models. That kind of thing. It could only be something you were slightly embarrassed about, surely if it was e.g. rugby you'd just say?

buttfacedmiscreant · 24/07/2017 16:11

Specifying one of DHs hobbies would be outing. He is a fan of a type of vintage electronics. If you google that type he comes up in the first google page. He is a complete nerd. I

buttfacedmiscreant · 24/07/2017 16:13

Aztec, the key for us was to find something we enjoy together. We both enjoy sailing but not necessarily the same type of sailing, DH compromised because he likes my company. We have older kids though so it doesn't matter if we take off for the day to sail.

StealthPolarBear · 24/07/2017 16:22

I assumed it was dressing up in period costumes and hitting each other with blunt swords
And she has the gavel out so it must be cod

Leapfrog44 · 24/07/2017 17:27

messing about in the shed, building stuff, buying old bikes and taking them apart, watching youtube videos about batteries. Hard to describe any of that as a hobby!

BabychamSocialist · 24/07/2017 18:16

Me: "I don't think I really have a hobby"
DP: "Well, you like doing the hoovering don't you?"

Hmm
MrsGotobed · 24/07/2017 18:33

My DP is a mountain biker (which is an abbreviated way of saying that he buys very expensive bikes, then systematically seems to replace all the really expensive parts on it for other even more expensive parts Hmm.

Is this the norm for all cyclists? Road and mountain?

Pooka · 24/07/2017 18:35

I don't have hobbies. I do stuff I like doing but but for some reason can't bring myself to call these things hobbies. Perhaps if they were original and unusual then I could say "oh yes - my hobby? It's sealed knot wargames" or "I play the harpsichord" or something. But boring - go to the cinema. Enjoy watching police interceptors. Like reading. Having and really good sleep. Nothing that I have an overarching need to do at the expense of anything else. Dh cycles but gets away with it because he's managed to get oldest and youngest keen and does all club stuff and cycle maintenance. Phew. Thank god for middle child who cannot ride a bike and shows absolutely no interest or ability in that direction as perfect excuse for me to avoid the "family bike ride."
