To tell my friend her business name is rubbish?

She wants to call it Pasta Best. To me it sounds like her products are passed their best. Should I tell her before it is too late and she has started trading?

I think the fact that the business doesn't even have anything to do with pasta makes it even worse.

Do what now? Confused

If it IS about using 'wasted' food that would otherwise be thrown away, then I think that's OK.

My favourite hairdresser name (the place has sadly closed down now) was It Will Grow Back.

NChappy · 23/07/2017 17:09

Hi, her business will supply staff to various other businesses and it's not even food based establishments either. Thanks for all of your replies, I think I do need to have a chat with her.

She sounds like a loon (although, I'm sure, a very nice one).

Best of luck, OP! 👍

ShmooBooMoo · 23/07/2017 17:47

How bizarre! A business should do what it says on the tin., vice versa.

Kpo58 · 23/07/2017 18:31

Please tell me that she is at least supplying age 55+ staff to try and make the pun work?

WashingMatilda · 23/07/2017 18:35

MrsOverTheHill
That cracked me up.
Poor old Trace, what's she like.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 23/07/2017 18:44

I don't understand why anyone would have a play on words as a business name - off the top of my head I can't think of any big name brand that does it but lots of people starting up new small businesses seem to think its a great idea.

SunshineOutdoors · 23/07/2017 18:55

Chippy called 'a salt and battered' near where I used to live in Sheffield

NChappy · 23/07/2017 19:07

Hi Kpo58. No, absolutely not, she's looking to employ students etc.

JessieMcJessie · 23/07/2017 21:24

WTF? Can you talk us through why she has chosen the name OP?

plimsolls · 23/07/2017 21:59

I can't stop thinking about this! I even just googled to find out if there are other meanings of pasta that I don't know about.

Whyyyyyyyyy?

Imbeingunreasonable · 23/07/2017 22:13

Is it a play in words kind of like "pass the best" if she is looking to supply businesses with staff from elsewhere?

Either way I'm still fucking baffled but in stitches at this whole thread 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Imbeingunreasonable · 23/07/2017 22:15

In response to PP upthread who mentioned Smell Cafe, I remember a good few years ago the Morrisons stores used to have light-up lettering.

The one near me had some of the lights not working so when it was lit up at night time it read "morons". Still makes me chuckle to this day

SimplyNigella · 23/07/2017 22:20

Zippy I knew exactly the thread you meant the second you mentioned The Lady Cave, it was a classic.

I'm doubly confused at to why someone would be naming a student recruitment business anything related to pasta, let alone something implying it's out of date. Am I missing something?

NanooCov · 23/07/2017 23:12

There is a driving school near me called Skid Marks. Absolutely bloody awful.

YANBU OP - tell her before it's too late!

AbsentmindedWoman · 23/07/2017 23:58

This thread sums up why I love Mumsnet so much Grin

DirtyChaiLatte · 24/07/2017 00:02

The name sounds even worse after you've explained what her business is.

It sounds like she's hiring out people who are passed their best!

BalloonSlayer · 24/07/2017 07:10

Keep sniggering at the TWAT cafe! Grin

Bumpsadaisie · 24/07/2017 07:23

We saw a B and B in Scotland called Nessun Dorma, once.

Also on the Bethnal Green Road, a women's clothes shop called Limited Lady.

Smile
MumBod · 24/07/2017 07:41

Oh, I get it. Pass The Best. Like, pass good people on.

It's shit.

What about People Providers? The People People?

Gandalf's Staff? GrinGrin

lynmilne65 · 24/07/2017 08:06

I love unsurpastable 🤣

junerat · 24/07/2017 08:43

Pasta Parcel!

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 24/07/2017 09:34

If she's making such a big mistake over the name I'd have doubts over the rest of the business.

SapphireStrange · 24/07/2017 10:43

Pass The Best. Like, pass good people on.

Ah, OK.

God, it's laboured, isn't it? As well as giving me a mental image of a bag of browning salad leaves.

She needs to rethink.

Imbeingunreasonable · 24/07/2017 13:13

She may as well call it Potato Dreams or Cul-De-Sac or something else nonsensical which doesn't sum up the premise of the business whatsoever
