Hi ... summer holidays looming .... a great time to hang out with 15 yo DD while away... We love games like Articulate, Racing Demon, Bananagrams, Forbidden Island, Charades... even Settlers of Katan.... and quite enjoy Sussed...

AIBU to ask for some great recommendations for having a good time with a teen during the summer hols? What are your favourite games and why?

Town trails get everyone out and about and you find out about the area.
Not a board game but great fun.

Nettletheelf · 18/07/2017 22:53

Small World, the board game, is always popular with teenagers. Think it's because it's quite silly and doesn't require massive strategising.

MakeItStopNeville · 18/07/2017 22:54

Las Vegas. My teens will play that for hours.

Babyroobs · 18/07/2017 22:55

Mine are mad about scattergorries at the moment.

Syc4moreTrees · 18/07/2017 22:55

Splendour?

Somerville · 18/07/2017 22:55

Ticket to Ride and Pandemic are current favourites. We still play Settlers a lot, too.

jarhead123 · 18/07/2017 22:56

Scattergories is brilliant!

SusanMitchell · 18/07/2017 22:59

UNO is a great card game - you can stitch each other up with the swapping hands rules which can be hilarious.
Rummikub is also good fun as you have to think quickly and games can be very fast paced.

yummumto3girls · 18/07/2017 23:32

Another vote for UNO, my 16 & 13 year old play it together a lot and with their friends.

BeachyKeen · 18/07/2017 23:34

Jack box! It's brilliant

Tinuviel · 18/07/2017 23:36

Carcassonne and Citadel are both very popular with my 3 teens. They also enjoy Taboo and the card version of Monopoly (is it Monopoly deal?) DD loves Set but that is because no one can beat her!

gleegeek · 19/07/2017 00:02

Exploding kittens!

HicDraconis · 19/07/2017 00:23

Munchkin with all the expansions and played to the Epic levels
Carcasonne
Settlers of Catan (plus expansions)
Exploding kittens 🐱 🔥
Magic: The Gathering

We take them all on holiday with us too, they pack up fairly small so no luggage issues.

Shedmicehugh · 19/07/2017 00:29

Scrabble! (yawn!! No seriously) and UNO which I quite like!

'Come and watch me play' any game on Xbox is one to be avoided!

CakesRUs · 19/07/2017 00:32

Rounders. Everybody enjoys rounders.

grumpysquash3 · 19/07/2017 00:35

We like Carcasonne and Pandemic, we have Exploding Kittens fresh from Amazon but not played yet.
Bananagrams is a long term fave from pre-teen days.
Recently bought Skull which is very attractive but not sure how much fun it is.
They also like old fashioned Cluedo.

Meowstro · 19/07/2017 00:46

Haven't got a teen but younger sibling just out of the teen years, we play Speak Out, Cluedo and Articulate when we're together as a family.

Bosabosa · 19/07/2017 00:48

Settlers plus expansions.

Currently we are all liking Bridge although generally completely flummoxed at the bidding !

Storminateapot · 19/07/2017 00:50

Have you tried Forbidden Desert if you like Forbidden Island? It's harder to win.

We really like another collaborative game called Pandemic.

Storminateapot · 19/07/2017 00:51

Ooh also One Night Ultimate Werewolf! They love that!

user1498240695 · 19/07/2017 00:56

Trivial pursuit family edition is great for all ages as is scrabble. Also charades. There's a phone app called deck heads, that's ok for a giggle. Drawing caricatures of famous people and the other person or team have to guess who it is.

Meowstro · 19/07/2017 05:43

Thought of two more:

Who Am I? - You write a name of someone on a post it note and pop it on the person next you's head. Everyone takes turns asking closed questions (yes or no answers only) in order to work out who they are first. The people some of us think of gives everyone a good giggle. I sometimes play it with DH in the car on long journeys without the post it notes. There's the board game 'Guess Who' with the flip characters too which is the same premise but I bought the newest version and it's not the same as I had in my childhood.

Pass the bomb - you all have to answer with a word that fits the retirement (for example, like ends in 'ier' or starts with 'q'), within the time of the ticking plastic "bomb" and throwing it to the next player. Whoever gets the bomb to off on them has to take the card, the person with the least cards at the end of the game wins.

catmumof1 · 19/07/2017 11:30

Cards Against Humanity (very rude but very funny when played with different generations)
Exploding Kittens
Mr Lister (or anything from Big Potato)
Traditional card games like rummy, poker, cheat/bullshit etc are always fun and can be played anywhere with just a pack of cards

arsenicistheanswer · 19/07/2017 11:33

Exploding kittens (we also now have the extension pack!)
Dobble

lucydogz · 19/07/2017 11:41

Settlers. Risk. Pass the Bomb. Upwords (like scrabble, but you can build ON words).
Does anyone else play the Hat game? When we get together ,we always play it. It's like an extension of charades.
