Council house

My situation currently is me, my partner and three children living with my mom in a 3 bed house, it is very cramped, and I feel awful for taking over my moms house.. I've been on the council housing list for a long time and unfortunately we just don't earn enough to private rent.. Basically my question is, two houses down a family have just moved out and I was wondering whether if/how I could go about asking the council if we could have it before they put it up for bidding? I'm not sure if this is a possible thing or if they will just tell me to get lost basically? Any advice or same situations would be appreciated?

I have three kids. Believe me, cleaning poo off adults is in no way the same as cleaning it off adults. I've been hit, kicked, bitten, spat at and variously verbally abused at work, so yes, I think putting up with that for £7.50 an hour has most definitely cost me my dignity. Laugh it up if you like. I know cleaners don't have quite the same nature of work as carers do but it can still be unpleasant, heavy, physical work that almost nobody wants. I wouldn't tell anybody they should be willing to do it.

*cleanong poo off kids is not the same as cleaning it off adults, I mean.

Plenty of us have cleared it off parents too never mind pets including horses but I agree caring for the demented doubly incontinent old is not always that rewarding but better than not eating I suppose.

Pets?!

I've done my fair share of shit jobs, many of which involved handling shit. I'm thankful I have gone back and earned the necessary qualifications that I don't need to do that anymore. I've also done work in call centers, working 12 hours both weekend days so I could have short hours during the week to study and job hunt.

A worse job than cleaning up shit is cleaning up a meat processing facility which ive done a few times as that's DHs business. Cleaners called out so I did it after working a 12 hour day. This is how my family put a roof over our heads and food on the table.

Where is this place in East London where you can rent a house for £700 a month?

We know someone from abroad who was very good friends with council officials in a Southern seaside town and he got ahead on the list - dreadful, corrupt, should not happen. A single man.

Me too luckysky. There was uproar many years ago when it was discovered just how common this was. I.e a council worker (single) being given a 3 bed house because it was in a nice area Hmm

Also very goof friends with a couple who only got their current house because a friend they knew who knew someone at the council kept badgering all the people involved to give house to said couple insisted that the house go to X&Y. I know they've changed the rules since these two events but it'd be naive to think these events never occurred.

*good not goof.

Council workers have been prosecuted and gone to prison for this so it has happened. It may still be happening. But don't just sigh and accept it, if you genuinely believe it goes on you need to complain to the highest level. It's illegal.

londonrach · 19/07/2017 07:56

Ask but doubt you get it as theres a waiting list.

Alfieisnoisy · 19/07/2017 08:01

I have friends who work in housing allocation locally. They couldn't and didn't pull any strings for me.
If this had happened anywhere else then it's appalling.
I got my place by being on the waiting list like everyone else and having a child with a disability which gave me some priority.
No friends pulled any strings though and one is a senior housing manager.

Yes because they're not allowed too now. There were prosecutions.

Doesn't mean it never happened or there's a loophole some may still be willing to go through.
