Apparently the whole country is waiting to celebrate her birthday (according to ITV)
Well Dh certainly isn't!
He was a big fan when he was a lad, and went to see her in a pantomime.
Waiting at the stage door after the show for an autograph with other star struck youngsters, she came out and told them all to Piss Off and clear off home Shock
He said she was the most horrible, rude person and that he never watched her in anything again.
Which celebs have you met that didn't match up to the pedestal you had them on?

DaisysStew - I have commented on the tenuous links to celebrities that my GC is a space of 2 weeks, one accidently ran into Jason Orange, the other accidently ran in to Jason Donovan - both of them were lovely about it.

I'm. Convinced about Michael Winner Limited. Did anyone see the clip of him on Richard Littlejohn's show in the 90's. He was sublime. He put the vile RL firmly in his place after RL had insulted and was vile to the lesbian community

limitedperiodonly · 16/07/2017 21:48

Edwina Currie was nice too. My mum bumped into her several times when they tried to dodge each other in the street and Edwina giggled and apologised and said: 'I'll stand still and you walk round me.'

It's very unsettling when people you think you should hate turn out turn out to be okay. Katie Hopkins is pleasant and amusing company if a bit needy.

I met Frances Shand Kydd (Princess Diana's mother) at a parish event and she was very rude. She flirted outrageously with my husband and glared at me. Not wanting to speak ill of the dead etc, but I don't think she was the type of woman who ever sought out the company of other women .

limitedperiodonly · 16/07/2017 21:57

I remember that Michael Winner clip User for anyone who thinks of him as a shallow name dropper and napkin waver in posh restaurants.

chibsortig · 16/07/2017 22:01

Linford Christie was lovely when i met him, he spoke to all the kids that were around and was a good sport when they had a 'race'.
Ade Edmonson is awesome after he performed on stage with his band the Band Shepherds at our local theatre he came out into the foyer for autographs and pictures with the other two band members.
Toyah Wilcox wasnt so nice when i met her, she had performed on stage at doncaster civic for Vampire Rock the rest of the cast came out into the foyer for a meet and greet Toyah came out but stormed off refusing pictures.
The Levellers are always pleasant when you meet them.

Hugo Speer, Ryan Gage and Tom Burke all lovely - Hugo in particular is totally fabulous.

I met Ewan Macgregor when I worked in retail and he was nice.

I think that if you work in theatre the. Stage door is part of the job really.

user1498240695 · 16/07/2017 22:39

Much appreciated Limited. Have never been able to find it and need to show it off Grin. What a lovely man.

redshoeblueshoe · 16/07/2017 22:42

I have learnt something from this thread, next time I go to one of the 2 most popular places round here for seeing celebs I'm going to take one very cute baby with me luckily I have access to one Grin

Biscuitsneeded · 16/07/2017 22:49

Nice:
Johnny Ball ( I was in panto as a child with him and he was genuinely lovely, came to check we kids were OK after another celeb shouted at us)
Juliet Stephenson, Mark Rylance, Greg Wise, David Bradley (Argus Filch from HP films), Meera Syal, Michael Rosen, Terry Jones - worked with all these and absolutely lovely.
Philip Schofield chatted to me in Top Shop on Oxford Street when I was 14 and was charming - this was 1986.

Mad as a box of frogs: Jane Birkin

Also worked with Tony Robinson once and he was fine. Surprised to hear all these stories.
Victoria Wood I think just very shy and private.
I was also in panto with Anita Dobson who wasn't particularly nice but it was 1983 and she was having relationship troubles that had to be conducted very publicly on the theatre's only payphone in the green room, so entire company heard what was going on... She is also probably fine really!

FetchezLaVache · 16/07/2017 23:11

I can corroborate Hugo Speer's loveliness.

When DS was 2, I was taking him into a café bar in our mutual home town - he was sitting in the window, saw me struggling to get the pushchair up the steps and flew out to carry it up for me. He then played with DS while I went to order my coffee. When it was served and DS expressed disappointment that they had run out of the biscuits they normally serve with it, Hugo disappeared and came back ten minutes later with an exquisitely packaged teddy bear biscuit for him from the v. posh café just round the corner.

GColdtimer · 16/07/2017 23:31

George best was lovely. I was in a pub in the 90s, thought I knew him and asked him if he worked in the railways with my dad. Shock. He twinkled at me and said "no love". As soon as he spoke I recognised him. I was so embarrassed but he was lovely and bought me a drink!

DramaQueenofHighCs · 16/07/2017 23:54

Oh and another

Giles Brandreth is lovely - DH, DS (5 at the time) and I were in the chorus of a 'scratch' (rehearse in a day then perform) performance of an operetta that he and his wife came to see. The first half was a different performance and we were sitting in front of them and DS was chatting away to them before the start telling them all about how he was going to be in the second half and they were just wonderful with him and chatted to DH and I too.
Then after our performance he was talking to some other people, but his wife came over to me and said how much they enjoyed it and what a little star of the future DS was. She said that Giles was very impressed and nodded over to him and he gave a smile back. Then I tweeted him later that evening saying glad he enjoyed the show and he tweeted back that he certainly did and we were a talented family!

@Partridgeamongstthepigeons

I was thinking that too. It actually does match up a bit as he describes Oddie as having the potential to be a bit off but generally a nice guy (ie when he took him to the zoo or joined him walking in The Footsteps of his Father (tm) ). He has nothing but loathing for "Edmunds" and Tony Robinson but the way he talks about Sue Cook makes me just wish it were true, I don't think he is negative about her though obviously she probably isn't a raging alcoholic gambler.

JustChangingForThis · 17/07/2017 00:19

My dad was working away and having a drink in a local pub when Cher walked in with her crew. Said she was great, obviously very friendly with the people who worked for her and was a bit bawdy and played up her whole "rock chick" persona.

Friend was a driver for the Royals. Said they were mainly twats but Diana was nice (opposed to what everybody else said) and Fergie was absolutely lovely often going above and beyond. One example was he used to collect posh carrier bags for my mate (we were kids at the time) and when she found out she used to save them for him.

Friends sister works in for the Queen, she tells a story that one of her ladies in waiting or head maids or whatever blew up an inflatable crown that had been sent as a gift and left it in the bathroom after she had run her a bath. Queen went in then said through the door "very amusing X" (can't remember the name).

Had a brief fling with a guy that used to drive for celebs, he said that Denise Van Outen was an utter twat who referred to him as "driver". He only did the work for about a year but said she was the only one who did it. He said the nicest person he drove was Yasmin La Bonne , he did tell me why but can't remember.

My only story I experienced first hand was with Mel C. A gang of us were out during the day and she was sat in the pub with what appeared to be her minder. This was when she was still very high profile. One of my friends was fairly hammered. We all clocked her immediately and were all tittering and whispering about it. When hammered friend worked out what we were talking about he immediately went over to her and said very loudly and drunkenly "You're not Mel C". She was obviously not impressed with this and asked him to go away as she was just trying to have a drink, she was rather polite considering. He then said "If you're Mel C prove it and do a back flip" at which point the minder guy manhandled him out the pub. I don't think this reflects poorly on her at all but it was hilarious for us at the time.

John Cusack has blocked me on Twitter, but I have no idea why! I have never Tweeted him.

JustChangingForThis · 17/07/2017 00:30

Terfing

Ooooooh, you may be on one of those auto block lists. Do you engage in any controversial debate on there?*

*I bet I can guess what it is if the answer is yes but that can't be it because I just checked and he hasn't blocked me.

I met Liz Dawn when I was a kid. She was lovely and said "ooh I love yer 'air" which was pink at the time. I have her autograph somewhere signed Liz Dawn with Vera Duckworth in brackets.
