Charlie Gard 7

Continuation of the discussion.

It looks highly unlikely that there will be a verdict today as GOSH have not yet been able to put their case across. The Gard family had their position heard this morning and currently an expert witness from the US is being questioned via video link.

@Puzzledandpissedoff @Alfiemoon1 @JaneEyre70 I agree completely. The Gard's have lost a whole day with Charlie, and have put themselves though absolute hell. There are long-lens photos from today (accompanying a DM article) that show the parents outside the court smoking, looking like death themselves. Terribly sad.

LovelyBath77 · 13/07/2017 19:34

I mean, hopefully CA will stop, now, not people posting about them on here.

Alfiemoon1 · 13/07/2017 19:34

I would of thought the expert would have examined Charlie seen all his notes etc before even offering treatment to his parents as it has given them false hopes. He didn't seem confident in court and in my opinion contradicted himself. I understand he is into reaseach not neurology but surely he should have got all the facts about Charlie's condition before deeming him suitable for the trial

I think GOSH are worried that the mad right in the USA would take some sort of revenge on them, by say banning them from participating in global trails.

Sostenueto · 13/07/2017 19:34

Hear! Hear! Sodablackcurrant.

LovelyBath77 · 13/07/2017 19:35

Many couples are infertile and don't have the chance for another baby. I'm in no way trying to minimise what they are going through, but in future, they could have a 3/1 chance of a healthy baby in future. That is a lot to be thankful for.

LovelyBath77 · 13/07/2017 19:36

It does feel a bit like they are covering everything so thoroughly in order to make a decision that will not provoke some huge backlash.

DonutCone · 13/07/2017 19:38

Umm lovely I'm sorry but I think that's a really weird comment to make right now.

Jenna43 · 13/07/2017 19:38

From a poster on CA

He needs b12 and b6 vitamins to give his cells the energy his body isn't producing

Really? Quick, tell a doctor.

nina2b · 13/07/2017 19:39

Actually I agree, sodablackcurrant. Some of the CA people are aware that they are not the only ones online giving their views - although "views" seems the wrong word to apply to their poisonous drivel.

I imagine for them any publicity is good publicity. Perhaps, they should be denied it - here at least.

nina2b · 13/07/2017 19:40

Although it is very very hard to blank out.

Artisanjam · 13/07/2017 19:40

I think the judge is trying to get the US dr and the other signatories to accept that there is at best an very slight improvement on Charlie's condition - it's never going to mean he's completely cured. That would be why the judge was reminding them of their comments in April.

Sostenueto · 13/07/2017 19:41

Am disappointed in judge, but think he is just giving one more last chance and covering all scenarios so there is no more appeals etc when he plucks up courage to do the right thing for Charlie, which is so hard to say right tomorrow your child will die. The judge is human too and I bet this is all a very personal effort to hold true and straight on his part when he too is feeling what a dreadful decision to make. Yes definitely think he doesn't want anymore returns to court so making doubly sure.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 13/07/2017 19:41

Was there a tweet, saying the US specialist hadn't read Charlie's notes? There was one saying he hadn't had access to them until last week, but I don't remember seeing one saying he hadn't read them.

annasfarmgirl · 13/07/2017 19:43

lovely I'm sure you mean well but you must surely realise that one child can never replace another? This is the one and only Charlie that there ever has been, and ever will be. He's not replaceable (nobody is).

Butterymuffin · 13/07/2017 19:44

Not at all sure where this is going now. At least the judge has spoken out against online abuse and threats to GOSH staff.

Writerwannabe83 · 13/07/2017 19:46

So a meeting is being held between all the doctors and the parents to come to a decision?

Do they think C&C can be persuaded to withdraw treatment or something?

HerculesMulligan · 13/07/2017 19:46

I'm a lawyer, though not in this area of law. I think the multidisciplinary meeting could well be a version of what often happens in other court cases, where the lawyers (and potentially medics here too) meet to "narrow the issues", which means whipping quickly through everyone's points without getting into the nitty gritty and trying to identify points of agreement, however minor, until you end up with a clear, much shorter list of points on which the parties are genuinely opposed. It could make sense in a case like this for opposing medical experts to do the same thing in parallel - otherwise you waste time setting out arguments and evidence in relation to pints which are not really in contention.

LovelyBath77 · 13/07/2017 19:46

I know, I'm sorry, forget that last comment. I guess I mean if they ever did come to terms with it and were able to let go, they do have another chance to have a child. I'm trying to see the positives in their situation. As there are so few at the moment. When i was severely ill, and had counselling, it helped me to see what things we do have and focus on that, rather than what we will never be able to have. I'll shut up now.

GabsAlot · 13/07/2017 19:47

rafa he said he doesnt know about his brain function not his area and he didnt read the final outcom of the last hearing

which is odd

LovelyBath77 · 13/07/2017 19:47

It does sound like from the doctor he had't really discussed things with the other docs looking after Charlie.

LovelyBath77 · 13/07/2017 19:48

Ok so after that what next, another hearing?

DorotheaBeale · 13/07/2017 19:49

Was there a tweet, saying the US specialist hadn't read Charlie's notes?

There was something about a file of data he was sent but hadn't been able to open - an email attachment, presumably.

Lightlovelife · 13/07/2017 19:49

ladasha any sign of the pastor? He has gone quiet on Facebook.

Nquartz · 13/07/2017 19:49

Sostenueto I hope you're right.

I for what its worth isn't convinced by the evidence & I hope the judge does manage to help the 2 sides find some common ground. I'm not sure what I expected to happen today but I don't think this was it
