Charlie Gard 7

Continuation of the discussion.

It looks highly unlikely that there will be a verdict today as GOSH have not yet been able to put their case across. The Gard family had their position heard this morning and currently an expert witness from the US is being questioned via video link.

That's very interesting about the behaviour outside the court. Must have been even more wretched for the parents who are very clearly in desperate need of help themselves. The physical and mental strain is terrible.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 13/07/2017 19:11

I'm not sure if anything has changed. I think I'm less clear than I was.

The meeting suggests something might have. Unless GOSH have decided that getting a US team over to assess Charlie is inevitable before anything can continue and having a video conference multidisciplinary meeting may speed the process up.

I don't think the judge can make any decision until the situation regarding Charlie's current condition is cleared up properly.

reallyanotherone · 13/07/2017 19:13

Oh jesus that poor mother who turned her baby's life support off and is now questioning it and saying it's a cover up.

Sostenueto · 13/07/2017 19:13

Hello lonelymummy1 and little ballerina FlowersBear how is darling daughter today lonely?

WankYouForTheMusic · 13/07/2017 19:15

What's the name of the other bloke that's tweeting this other than Joshua Rosenberg? Sky fix something?

smilingmind · 13/07/2017 19:15

I can't help wondering how much involvement Trump has as it all kicked off after his generous offer. The Pope was involved too at the beginning but he seems to have backed off after Trump's pro-life cronies got involved.
Then of course Pence has been shouting about 'this is what happens when you have socialist medicine' and coincidentally a letter arrives claiming there is new evidence.
It is really very disturbing that Charlie is being used for political gains.
We need a strong leader who will tell him to FTFO, not simper and hold his hand.
Anyone any idea what the European newspapers are making of it ?

I've just seen a highly creative photo online that makes it look like there were so many more people there. Power of the press eh

Peepeep · 13/07/2017 19:18

I hope it is resolved soon, for everyone's sake. Although I do fear for C&C if the decision doesn't go their way. I think they are far too in denial to accept the facts and how can they grieve if they are so consumed with anger that their son's life was ended unjustly. Sad

Puzzledandpissedoff · 13/07/2017 19:18

Okay, so the judge suggested he'd only overturn the multiple court decisions if the new and compelling evidence claimed by the parents was supplied - and now their chosen "expert" has failed to supply any such thing, instead effectively saying they should get someone else

And instead of any decisive action we now have what amounts to a meeting about a meeting, a huge lawyers' gabfest and almost certainly yet more delay while an innocent little soul is put through yet more

Frankly, I'm beyond disgusted Angry

Alfiemoon1 · 13/07/2017 19:20

I've not changed my mind at all I believe Charlie is suffering and has no quality of life and the USA expert hasn't changed my mind that he can work a miracle as hard as it may be for the parents it's time to privately spend some time with him and let go peacefully

MinesaBottle · 13/07/2017 19:21

Well I suppose they need to recoup some of the funding they've lost by suing people who have apparently threatening them

From a poster on CA, about threats made against GOSH staff. Jesus, everything's a conspiracy with some of them isn't it? I bet they are loving the drama.

StillNoEyeDeer · 13/07/2017 19:26

I'm also concerned this will end with Charlie being approved for treatment. I believe it's the wrong thing for Charlie and sets a worrying precedent for future cases.

JaneEyre70 · 13/07/2017 19:26

I thought the Judge was really on top of this on Monday, today I feel really angry that yet again, no one is standing up for Charlie. Today was an absolute farce, a complete waste of time and public money, and frankly I'm seriously struggling to understand why a time and date to end that poor darling baby's misery was set and GOSH failed to go ahead, despite having gone to court to get it.

I think it's descended into farce now and this is going to go on and on and on. That poor child has had the highest court in the land say his misery can be ended but he is still existing in that no man's land between life and death. It's f*cking disgusting.

LovelyBath77 · 13/07/2017 19:27

That other time they walked out of court was when it was reminded to Connie she didn't want Charlie to go with the same standard of life. So again, it was a reaction to the real situation. It sounds like hey really haven;t come to terms with things at all. they could really have done with some of the counselling provided by the hospital. i think, they didn;t want it though.

Sostenueto · 13/07/2017 19:30

Give you an insight to some peoples attitude. In the shop today with dd and people were talking about the case. One woman turned round and said I would not turn him off no matter what if he were my child. I said cos I'm like that, this child cannot do or feel anything you can do except maybe know pain. She said so what my child it doesn't matter. I said you could never look after said child and he would have to stay in hospital for the rest of his no life. Yes fine she said, I still wouldn't turn it off. I said let's hope it never happens then. Its my child not anyone else's and they should do as I say was her final reply.

Well what could I say? Apart from insulting her. My dd dragged wheelchair and me out reaaaal quick just in case I did insult her!

GabsAlot · 13/07/2017 19:30

i agree an disappointd with the judge who sai he didnt want this to drag on

now theres meetings?

he should have put an end to this aftr the evidence today

DonutCone · 13/07/2017 19:31

I agree that it is getting beyond ridiculous now.

So it won't be sorted out tomorrow. How much is this all costing? Why didn't GOSH turn off the ventilator last week after the family had had this 'memory making' weekend?

LovelyBath77 · 13/07/2017 19:31

I think it has made me feel worse about the idea of him going for treatment, overall and there is no 'new evidence'. I'm unsure about this meeting tomorrow- unless it is felt the doctors talking to one another may emphasise how ill Charlie is to the US doctor, who seemed to want more input from doctors here as to his condition. and possibly then put him off.

LovelyBath77 · 13/07/2017 19:31

Or he may realise the extent of the situation. He sounded woefully unprepared about the case.

sodablackcurrant · 13/07/2017 19:32

Without wishing to sound like a Head Girl or anything, does anyone think that referring to CA posts is just stirring things up now? I wouldn't give them the oxygen of publicity at all personally.

They made their abusive points, and the judge has basically told them to shut up now.

Just my opinion.

LovelyBath77 · 13/07/2017 19:33

I think people are just incredulous about CA to be honest, but yes hopefully they will stop, now. It would be horrible if they turned on the parents if they suddenly did come to terms with it and decided they wanted to let him go.
