A friend of mine had a cousin who happened to also be a cousin of Jim Kerr from Simple Minds. Although my friend was not actually related to Jim Kerr she referred to him as her half cousin. Another friend used to boast that she and Simon Le Bon were at school together, they did indeed go to the same school but not at the same time. Anyone else got any vague claims to fame?

I used to go to the same gym as the fireman from the domestos advert and a friend is Facebook friends with him.

I went to school with Greengrass from Heartbeat's grandchildren.

I know someone whose cousin is mates with Tom from Kasabian.

I know a lady who has a friend related to Daniel O'Donnell. She didn't realise and once basically re-enacted the scene from Notting Hill when he visited!

My aunt's niece (to whom I am entirely unrelated) was on the first series of Bake Off.

My friend's dance teacher is sometimes one of the extra dancers on Strictly.

I do have actual celeb contacts, but where's the fun in that?

megletthesecond · 12/07/2017 18:40

My stepdads niece had one of her pictures bought by Mario Testino. Mum had to call me to check he was properly mega famous.

bridgetreilly · 12/07/2017 18:43

Oh, I forgot another one. A friend of mine was in the debating club at uni with Judge Rinder. Judge Rinder's best man was Benedict Cumberbatch. So I am practically best friends with Cumberbatch.

I've also been filmed in the same place as Eddie Redmayne, though not on the same day, sadly.

I used to have a Saturday job in a shop and served up rotisserie chickens to Les Dawson, Roy Walker, Edward Woodward and Stephen Tomkinson on a regular basis.

When I went to uni a friend was friends with Rick Witter from not very successful Indy band Shed 7 and we went to an album launch party and felt very, very famous and cool.

I declined a threesome with Rob Newman from Newman and Baddiel fame.

A woman I go to a hobby club with is cousins with anyone famous. I swear if you mentioned Pol Pot, The Aga Khan & Atilla The Hun she'd claim she was related.

Probably related to Winnie The Bastard Pooh as well. On her mother's side.

I went to school with a current England Rugby player. He was in my year and used to pinch my bum!

The dad of someone I went to school with was a porn reviewer and mates with Anthony Hopkins and another kids dad ran McLaren racing. Former pupils also include Harry Seccombes kids. I have also met the sister in law of Giles Coren and have a friend in the same yr as Prince William at Eton. The cousin of a friend of a uni friend is Bear Grylls niece- probably the most tenuous!

Through work I've met Mrs Andy Murray, Julie Walters,
