A friend of mine had a cousin who happened to also be a cousin of Jim Kerr from Simple Minds. Although my friend was not actually related to Jim Kerr she referred to him as her half cousin. Another friend used to boast that she and Simon Le Bon were at school together, they did indeed go to the same school but not at the same time. Anyone else got any vague claims to fame?

my DP's lived next door to the parents of someone who wrote a song that was one of the biggest earners for EMI - for songs used in advertising. none of us ever saw him

I used to work with a GABBI winner. The camera does lie sadly.

Oh and one of the kids I teach is the nephew if one of the Spice Girls. Another student is a former Spurs and England player's DD.

My BIL was in the same junior drama group as Guy Pearce (at the same time).

A girl my DD was at school with went on holiday, (somewhere like Mauritius) and Nelson Mandela was staying in the same hotel. It was her birthday while she was there, and he sang "Happy Birthday" to her. Nelson Mandela!

A long time ago my DH went on a trip to Fraser Island in Australia and Lisa Tarbuck was in his group. He also sat next to tennis player Jennifer Capriati on a plane.

I work with someone who used to work as a comedian alongside Peter Kay and has written some script for him. He gave up being a comedian after seeing an audience lovingly chant Peter Kay, over and over again, and realising he was never going to be as good.

A girl at school was daughter of the drummer in Orange Juice. My gran met Bing Crosby in a golf club. He said hello to her.
My friend has kissed Gary Numan. My dad used to work in the same building as Gordon Brown and got a Christmas card from him. I have an ex boyfriend who was good friends with an actress who appeared in a Halifax advert.

I also used to buy fruit and veg from Gary Linikers family fruit and veg stall. I am friends with someone who made Russell Brand laugh at a fancy party.
I didn't realise I was so closely connected to so many celebrities.

I have a Bono one for you Fi0ella, my son's godfather owns a property next to Bono's Dublin house. A couple of months after he bought it Bono phoned him to ask what he was planning to do with the property. Friend replied that he was going to build a 20 storey block of flats and call it 'BonoView'.
