A friend of mine had a cousin who happened to also be a cousin of Jim Kerr from Simple Minds. Although my friend was not actually related to Jim Kerr she referred to him as her half cousin. Another friend used to boast that she and Simon Le Bon were at school together, they did indeed go to the same school but not at the same time. Anyone else got any vague claims to fame?

Liam Neeson's mother was my dinner lady at school.

  • the son of Helga from Allo Allo
  • the daughter of Bert Large in Doc Martin
  • the daughter of Gloria from It Aint Half Hot Mum

I went to sixth form with Terry Wogan's oldest son. But I don't think I ever spoke to him - he was very shy.

DH's Australian uncle's wife used to go out with Mel Gibson.

GinasGirl · 13/07/2017 08:49

I once had some training at work from Kate Miss' Dad.

My friend was a nanny for Robbie Williams' hairdressers children.

mrsdolittle · 13/07/2017 08:50

Oh and I went to the same school as the boy who played Julian in the tv version of the Famous Five shown in the late 70's. He was a couple of years above me and I don't think he ever spoke to me.

GinasGirl · 13/07/2017 08:52

My friends neighbour once sat in the same restaurant as George Clooney.

Eminybob · 13/07/2017 08:53

Fl0ellafunbags · 13/07/2017 08:56

My husband's friend from school is Hugh Grant's cousin. We've been to loads of weddings and weekends away and parties but he's never brought cousin Hugh along. Disappointing.

BadTasteFlump · 13/07/2017 09:34

Ooh I've remembered another one - years ago I had a boyfriend who's uncle had painted 'The Fallen Madonna With The Big Boobies' for 'Allo 'Allo.

blukite · 13/07/2017 10:07

I used to work in a well known music shop and met Gabriella Cilmi. Her bass player invited me and my brother to a gig of theirs. He gave my brother his guitar pic, my brother claims to this day that makes them brothers Grin

blukite · 13/07/2017 10:12

WanderingTrolley1 · 13/07/2017 10:12

I worked with a woman who saw someone on The Weakest Link, decided from that one appearance that she loved him and contacted the BBC and asked then to pass on a letter (apparently they have a dept for this).
After much correspondence, they met in London, it happened to be the day of the Queen mum's funeral and she had to stay over.
My tenuous link is I got her window desk when she left.

igivein · 13/07/2017 10:38

My brother's godmother's mother used to live next door to James Mason's mother.
I taught someone who lived next door to the drummer from The Darkness.
The mother of one of Journey South worked in the cafe at my work.
Christopher Beeney once held the door open for my sister.
I've met Emily Blunt's sister.
I could go on & on ... practically celeb royalty me!!

MsSusanStoHelit · 13/07/2017 11:17

My friend's sister once shagged Noel Fielding.

Which apparently puts me in an exclusive club of basically everyone who has a friend who has a friend/relation who was in London in the 2000s.

mygorgeousmilo · 13/07/2017 11:23

Someone an absolute abusive pig who married into our family, trots out his favourite link as often as is humanly possible. Drumroll please!! His great auntie used to be a cleaner for Tony Blair before he was PM. I mean.... I just..... arghhhh shut it! Twat Angry I've been NC for a few years and it's been so good not listening to his drunken rants about his amazing family and their 'celeb' connections!

margaritasbythesea · 13/07/2017 11:30

My Dad was in the same year as Mick Jagger´s brother.

His ex also worked for a short while with Paul McCartney.

I walked past Brett from suede in the street once. And Rufus Sewell.

I served Baby Spice in a shop once. And Richard Madely. And Germaine Greer. And Fay Weldon. And Nigel Kennedy. And Alfred Brendel. And Bill Oddie. And Tom Conti. And Terence Stamp. He was the best.

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 13/07/2017 11:36

I once saw Ian Beale from a distance

Decaffstilltastesweird · 13/07/2017 11:41

My dad is a close friend of the dad of a very famous Hollywood actor. The dad is quite ordinary, doesn't live in Hollywood and has a successful career of his own. He has worked with my dad for decades.

My best friend at university's mum was a good friend of one of the actors from the Addams Family.

corythatwas · 13/07/2017 11:42

Perhaps not tenuous enough, but dh knew Judith Kerr's (When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit, Tiger Who Came To Tea) son as a child. Was too pig ignorant to realise there was anything special about the mum who let them in and brought them drinks when they went round. Dd was deeply shocked when she found out.

MIL was part of a group of evacuated youngsters brought strawberries and chocolates by Charlie Chaplin during the war. Also treats by other film stars of the time. Katherine Hepburn otoh set them an essay writing competition "What I admire about K. H.". Prize: signed photograph of K. H.. They were not impressed.

MILs stepfather knew Shirley Bassett.

Dd once served a coffee to Nick Dear and he was lovely and left a big tip.
