A friend of mine had a cousin who happened to also be a cousin of Jim Kerr from Simple Minds. Although my friend was not actually related to Jim Kerr she referred to him as her half cousin. Another friend used to boast that she and Simon Le Bon were at school together, they did indeed go to the same school but not at the same time. Anyone else got any vague claims to fame?

I went to Asda at stupid o'clock in the morning (I worked late shifts at the time) back in 2008ish.
I was struggling to reach a cereal box at the back of the shelf (it was one shelf from the highest) I couldn't quite get it and was getting quite fucked off.
A man stepped in and grabbed it for me. It was john barrowman Smile we made small talk about the fact we were both out shopping at 1am and I went on my way. I didn't want to mention I'd recognised him as he was obviously hoping not to run into anyone if he was buying groceries at that time..
Was nice though.

My sister was in the same high school class as a bandmember from bullet from my valentine.

Do these count? Grin

I once delivered a drink (room service) to Sarah Lancashire.

My sister had her head shoved down the loo at school by Steve Redgrave.

Had George Harrison knocking at our back door looking for the New Year's Eve party - was actually being held a few doors up by one of his friends...

Once sold a horse to the wife of the drummer of an iconic 70s rock band. She gave him a couple of pretty mares and he had a lovely life producing rather gorgeous foals before he died of old age and was buried under his favourite oak tree. (The horse, not the drummer - he's still going strong.)

Erm, probably not quite tenuous enough, though...

The company I work for worked for a famous comedian a few years back. Not at all like his tv persona. Had his man servant person follow him around, blocking entrances to toilets etc. We were all told to stay at our desks as to not bump into him.

Diva central.

My DSis used to go out with a guy who went to school with Catherine Zeta Jones.

He said she was a right little madam.

My mum knew his (much younger) third wife's mother.

I used to work for the Youth Offending Service and worked with a future Big Brother contestant, who had got done for a relatively small and twatty offence.

My friend's mum sold Ali Campbell from UB40 a house back in the 90s.

My DH was Gabriella Cilmi's bodyguard when she sang at a festival in the UK.

I did security for Blazin Squad and Atomic Kitten at a different event. Rocky B from BS cried for his mum when he saw the crowds of screaming teenage girls, and Atomic Kitten had the lyrics to their songs sellotaped to the floor of the stage when they performed.

Justawaterformeplease · 13/07/2017 06:55

When I was a teenager I worked at a relatively nice hotel that did weddings. I once took a coffee up to the room of the actress who played Paul Nicholls' character's mum in Eastenders (Lorraine? Jacqui?) She was very lovely and tipped me £2 which I seem to recall was more than the price of the coffee itself.

barbarann · 13/07/2017 07:08

I used to share a house with footballer Lee Sharpe's cousin.

My second cousin had a stint in a certain tv show in Australia (like 2 episodes) as a friend of a now Hollywood star.

My work colleague's son was in panto with John Barrowman.

Buildalegohouse · 13/07/2017 07:13

The aunt and uncle of a premier league footballer and the parents of a girl band member live on the same road as my parents.

Someone I work with is related to the Chuckle brothers.

My friend was the teacher of one of the 1D boys.

I served Freddie Flintoff when I worked in Tesco as a student.

I'm not sure which is the most tenuous. All equally?

Buildalegohouse · 13/07/2017 07:16

My dad is friends with the dad of Danii Minogue's child's father.
