I too have misophonia, and I wish to god I could just stop it. But it doesn't work like that.

This is different to hating the screech of nails down a black board. This is a disorder where your body goes into the fight or flight response. You either get rage, and for me it's red mist anger. Or you run away.

The amount of times I have self harmed because I couldn't get away.

This has blighted my life since I was about 5/6.

This is real and the impact on a sufferers life can be catastrophic. 50 years ago other disorders like autism wasn't taken seriously, and it's the same now with misophonia.

There is no getting over it, or putting up with it, or ignoring it. My brain is wired wrong, and hearing everyday sounds is absolute torture.

I do hope there is a cure soon.

MineNeverYours · 13/07/2017 18:35

@BeefyCakes I hope they find s cure for this one day too

Thinking about it I've always had it but since I had dd2 it's got much worse. Wonder what triggers it

Queenofthedrivensnow · 13/07/2017 20:28

Chewing has driven me mental since I was little - my dad chewing out me off all food. Exh chewing drove me insane

SpottedGingham · 13/07/2017 20:47

There's a continuity announcer on radio 4 who you can hear breathe. I stopped listening live as I don't want to hear him do that. I know he has to breathe but i don't need to hear him!

My husband also likes to bite a fingernail and the sucky sloppy squinchy noises he makes make me want to punch holes in the wall. He's an inveterate pen clicker, finger clicking sod too so my work is cut out. His funeral tunes will be "annoying repetitive sounds my wife hates" I reckon!

It can be quite hilarious in a sad way in my house, DD has very severe Misophonia and misokinesia, ASD and severe sensory defensiveness

DH is a sensory seeking aspie, DS is a sensory seeking dispraxic with mild Misophonia

Both my boys are noisy and fidgety which sets of DD quite badly, I'm piggy in the middle constantly trying to smooth troubled waters and feeling like I need a naughty step for all three Grin

A tip I do have for those sufferering the visual form (misokinesia) we used coloured dyslexia glasses and found they helped the calm the senses particularly when working on computers

Queenofthedrivensnow · 13/07/2017 21:43

I have always struggled with the background noise on the radio. Both my parents like radio 4 and it mad me rage. Thinking about all this it's the same symptom

PrincessIsAUnicorn · 13/07/2017 21:53

Me and my friend suffer from this, my friend has twins, so what does she give them whilst traveling in the car? French fries (the crisp)!!! They eat them like a beaver, start one end, crunching them in to their mouths! My friend has nowhere to go Grin

That's interesting ysolla I suspect I am on the autism spectrum somewhere. But like your brother I've never been officially diagnosed.

DameSquashalot · 15/07/2017 10:45

I also hate tinny music played on a mobile phone on the bus, and when tannoy systems have a really sharp pitch.

mamma12 · 22/03/2018 22:56

Oh me too!!! It makes me rage on a normal day to day basis but when I have pms I could literally rip someone's head off. My work colleagues have the eating habits of farmyard anImals. How I didn't kill them when the supermarket opposite had a BOGOF on Pringles is a mystery.

ToothyMcPuthy · 22/03/2018 23:02

I have misophonia. It's really miserable.

Thecrabbypatty · 23/03/2018 10:25

My DP is /was (hopefully) a sniffer. I had a epic rage and stormed out of the house a few weeks ago because I simply couldn't take it any longer. I had to get out of the car once while my mum ate a nectarine. Mouth breathing, whistley noses, people eating mayonnaise, loud chewing, slurping and repetitive sounds drive me insane. Dog knob licking (paw cleaning not as bad) throat clearing, hawking up something phlegmy, and loud gum chewing. So glad I'm not alone.

Thecrabbypatty · 23/03/2018 10:39

Also interestingly cotton mouth. If there is someone nervous being interviewed on the radio you can hear their mouth drying in out and the almost tacky sound it's making. Hate it. And it makes me think of people with globs of saliva trapped in the corner of their mouths.
