Not really AIBU topic but I have to bring this up as I'm sure I'm not the only one!!
Is there anyone else who cannot STAND the sound of other people chewing???

Another one here! It makes me irrationally angry 😡

I regularly tell my DS to shut his mouth when he eats 😤

My best friend stastred chewing gum the other day, I nearly left her in the middle of the shop 🙊🙈

LloydColeandhisCoconuts · 12/07/2017 09:04

Ha ha! This drives my DP potty! He listens to music on public transport now to drown it out. There always seems to be gum chewer who will sit behind him on the bus! It never bothered me before but because of him I seek it out and hear it too! Confused

DameSquashalot · 12/07/2017 09:16

I also really hate the sound of wheely suitcases on concrete/tarmac. It drives me insane. I can cope if I'm the person pulling the case - I know that makes no sense.

I can't sleep in a room with a ticking clock and dropping taps drive me crazy!

AlessandroVasectomi · 12/07/2017 10:27

MIL ( whom I love dearly) makes a gulping sound when she swallows. Being of a certain age, she drinks lots of tea so when she comes to stay you find yourself making constant cuppas and then having to endure the gulp gulp gulp as she drinks them. You can even hear it above the TV and I find myself listening for the next gulp rather than concentrating on what we're watching. Why should it bother me? I dunno but it jolly well does.

DameSquashalot · 12/07/2017 11:41

That's why I hate repetitive sounds...I'm always waiting for the next one. So bloody annoying.

Monkeypuzzle32 · 12/07/2017 11:48

I hate any eating noises-smacking lips, slurping, food sticking in teeth (DH), crunching loudly-you get my drift, the only time I could ever tolerate it was with my cat-I thought that was cute!
Can't bear sniffing/snorting/throat clearing either! There is a man in my office who loudly clears his throats all the bloody time and it annoys all of us but drives me crazy

MineNeverYours · 12/07/2017 12:19

Even though these sounds from other people bother us it doesn't stop us loving them obviously.
Breathing depends on who it is and how they're breathing, my DP makes really strange noises in his sleep but I've always found it comforting however when he eats his chewing bugs me lol

Burping as well!!! My Grandpa is constantly not burping but belching!! I don't know how one person can be so gassy but I can't sit and eat in the same room as him because to puts me off. There are ways to be more polite, I burp with my mouth shut if I need to but he full on belches and it drives me insane

If you mean that open mouthed clack, clack, clacking sound then YANBU.

If it's someone chewing with their mouth shut, not blowing bubbles or doing those tiny bubble loud pops inside the mouth (which is my bad habit) then YABU.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 12/07/2017 13:44

Me too. I am okay with a fan in the room because its a constant white noise but ticking and dripping are infuriating because they stop start. Even a ticking watch put down on a bedside table used to annoy me.

Rollypoly100 · 12/07/2017 13:57

My manager sits opposite me behind her computer and makes the most revolting sound eating first a banana and then a tunnocks tea cake. i find it most irritating

SwissChristmasMuseum · 12/07/2017 14:15

Actually, BarbarianMum (and others!) - it is other peoples' problem. There's no need to eat noisily at all. And it's made worse by people not sticking to set mealtimes and places - especially at work, for goodness sake. Why do people need to eat all the time anyway? Flipping bad manners.

BarbarianMum · 12/07/2017 14:27

You don't have to eat noisily to upset someone with misophonia swizz you just have to eat audibly - which is normal.

And it is not your place to dictate to others when and where they can eat.

BarbarianMum · 12/07/2017 14:28

Apologies that was to Swiss

SwissChristmasMuseum · 12/07/2017 14:29

Ah yes, well, if people are eating normally, then the person who doesn't like it should have a strategy. And apologise if they snap.

SwissChristmasMuseum · 12/07/2017 14:30

As for dictating - I aint. I just think a lot of problems could be solved in one go by a general reinstating of standards.

Ohyesiam · 12/07/2017 14:40

I cannot stand it.

Makes me want to scream.

BarbarianMum · 12/07/2017 14:42

Its not just about "standards" though. As I type this i have a colleague on one side nibbling on crackers to try and kill off morning sickness, a colleague (audibly) eating a sandwich as he works because he was out dealing with an on-site emergency this morning and now needs to write it up and and me sucking my way through a carton of "total enteral nutrition" (about as nice as it sounds) which replaces food for me when my Crohns flairs.

People with type 1 diabetes need to eat regularly.

Small children need to eat regularly.

People with long commutes may wish to eat on the train rather than at home.

I'm not sure its ever been different but 3 meals a day eaten at home certainly doesn't work for many people now.

AhhhhThatsBass · 12/07/2017 14:44

Chewing gum is the worst, especially with mouth open so you can see the tongue moving around. Gulping milk in cereal is another peeve of mine. Luckily my DH is totally ok with the fact that I irationally banish him from whatever room I am in if he is eating cereal.

SwissChristmasMuseum · 12/07/2017 16:00

It is usual in some countries to have designated places for eating and drinking, thank goodness. And people have the manners to use them. And no small children I've seen here eat constantly. They have regular meal and snack times and it works perfectly. Anyone shoving food at kids to keep them quiet outside of these times is looked on as odd or British. Or both.

SwissChristmasMuseum · 12/07/2017 16:03

Agreed about trains, though, but if you get a train at a particular time, say from 11.30 - 12.30, you'll see a lot of people having their lunch, so again, regular. After that, not so much until 4 - then it's snack time.

Janeinthemiddle · 12/07/2017 16:07

There is a lady at work who not only make loud chewing noise, she also talk with her mouth full and chew with her mouth open.

This is during lunch time when we have lunch in a break room and she's always on her phone while having her lunch. AngryAngryAngry

pinkyflower · 12/07/2017 17:01

I have to agree with @BarbarianMum ...to a degree - I have some real issues with people eating or drinking near me - have to have TV or Music on... but it isn't just the noise, its sometimes just seeing people eat and knowing there is noise!

Also, the ticking clock, the sound of rain (sometimes) or traffic noise - drives me bat-shit crazy!

MineNeverYours · 12/07/2017 18:37

I'm currently sitting here and although no one is eating thank god my Grandmother is over playing a game on a tablet with one of those plastic tablet pens and the tapping on the screen is driving me INSANE!!!😡😡

I have this bad, particularly bad when I have PMT.

Hate noisy eating, gives me the rage. My dad used to eat so noisily, my sister used to get wound up about it and copy him so I had two of them at it. This was after my mum died, we were an unhappy unit and these tense mealtimes did not help.

I have a really noisy eating colleague, I would say she eats like a dog, but that would be an insult to dogs. And she constantly eats. She made so much noise eating a noodle soup (slurping, sucking in and chewing) that a young intern quite a few desks away looked around with horror when he heard her.

I also hate colleagues tapping on a keyboard, particularly the cheap ones we have at work. Some fountains cause me to feel tense. Hate the sound of water sloshing around an iron. Or the crowd clapping at golf tournaments on TV - have to leave the room if my DH is watching it.

I realise it's me, apart from the noisy eating which is just gross bad manners.I felt murderous in work yesterday because of the keyboard tapping. Even though my period was not due it indicated that it was on its way - and low and behold, it arrived!
