I find the Charlie enjoys watching videos statement very sad. I think Connie really believes he does watch videos. I imagine she his father put CBeebies or whatever on and sit with Charlie while it plays, and for a bit they feel like they're doing something normal that most parents do, and she projects this into Charlie enjoys watching the iPad.

I can understand Chris and Connie's delusion and where it comes from, unfortunately because of the times we live in they've managed to drag many others into their delusional world to the detriment of just about everyone involved in this situation.

Rhodiolia · 11/07/2017 10:46

They are talking about setting up another fund, for the parents to treat themselves with! As the other fund is "just for Charlie".

This is one of their ideas ... " Im in. I so want them to get to america and get that treatment for charlie but i also want them to gorge them selves silly on so American calorific grub and relax as much as possible away from the stress and strain they have had here. They look stained, stressed beyond beleif and wilted. I dont mean it in a nasty way at all, I just want them to be healthy for their sons sake if he gets the treatment and its successful he will need them as healthy as can be. I will be more then willing to make a donation towards them just as I was towards Charlie x"

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/07/2017 10:49

the parents need to provide head measurements ...

In all honesty I'm not sure this would be much use; they're hardly trained medics and may not be objective in taking measurements

I expect GOSH will have been noting down these details anyway; the parents might not like what they've recorded but that doesn't mean it's not true, whatever their claims to the contrary

LeannePerrins · 11/07/2017 10:49

I've been watching the case with mounting horror.

Sadly I think we're going to see more and more of this kind of thing. I think that after years of genuine cover-ups and abuses of power (the abuse scandals of the Catholic church, Operation Yewtree, Hillsborough etc) public trust in large institutions has been absolutely hollowed out. Michael Gove was onto something when he said that the British people have 'had enough of experts'.

It's a very good thing that people no longer blindly trust certain institutions because this was the system which hid abusers in plain sight. However, on the flip side there is a growing and increasingly vocal group of people who so badly mistrust traditional institutions of power and expertise that they are willing to dismiss solid, rational evidence in favour of gut feelings and 'instincts'. It gave us Brexit and Trump and now the suffering of this poor child.

Electricaid · 11/07/2017 10:50

I agree with the poster upthread that said we could be accused of being keyboard warriors too. Someone yesterday suggested that if they were the nurse looking after Charlie they might 'accidentally! turn off his life support.

LeannePerrins · 11/07/2017 10:51

Even the administration of morphine to this poor child who may be in terrible pain has been twisted by CA as an indication of a conspiracy.

One of them genuinely said, 'why are they giving morphine? Surely you start with Calpol?.'

It would be funny if it weren't real.

Lightlovelife · 11/07/2017 10:51

That's actually very kind.
As long as they don't all turn up at GOSH with casseroles.
My family think I am becoming obsessed. They will probably confiscate my I pad soon!

Writerwannabe83 · 11/07/2017 10:52

I think we need to hear more stories of that kind in the news Writer.

I bet the parents of the little boy I was talking are finding this all very upsetting. I find it hard as a professional to hear such a wonderful Trust being criticised so much so as a parent whose child has effectively been saved by them it must be very hard to listen to.

Halsall · 11/07/2017 10:52

I've been following these threads, and the case of Charlie Gard and his parents, with mounting sadness and horror. Thank you to all the posters who've written so eloquently and wisely and shared their experiences.

I've felt from the outset that the outcome was inevitable for this poor little baby. The fact that it's still dragging on is horrible beyond belief, and I'm afraid, as others have said, the parents are not only in a tortured fantasy-land of denial, but now unable to make any considered judgements while their baying mob is demanding they keep 'fighting'.

When you're enlisting support from Donald Trump, Jeremy Kyle, and an American pro-life pastor with a controversial past, it's not looking great. Add to that an Italian hospital which is affiliated to the Vatican and has been accused of putting profit before its care for patients (obviously it denies this, but the story popped up when I googled).

Then to top it all comes the mathematical nonsense of the '10% improvement' claim, which I fervently hope will be interpreted in court by someone on GOSH's team who understands figures.

The NHS is under unprecedented attack in this country and I am sickened that this heartbreaking case is allowing a bunch of witless hysterics to drive it even further into the ground.

Lightlovelife · 11/07/2017 10:53

That was in response to the post about the fund for the parents.

hippogriffwobble · 11/07/2017 10:54

Flowers callme I see you.

callmeadoctor · 11/07/2017 10:56

Thanks all xxxx

WankYouForTheMusic · 11/07/2017 10:56

Writer's posts explain very neatly why it's important that these threads happen, why it's not just mere keyboard warrioring. That's not to say that we can't encourage action too, but there's real concern that NHS professionals might find this dispiriting. It's vital that there's stuff out there on social media, well used websites etc to make it clear that Charlie's Army aren't representative of popular opinion.

If people weren't eg spamming the GOSH Facebook page and stuff like that, maybe these threads wouldn't be needed. But they are.

MyPatronusIsAUnicorn · 11/07/2017 10:57

What I don't understand (and I haven't watched it so only taking this from threads) is that Connie said it has a 1 in 10 000 chance of working, so 10%. Why has no one questioned this and told her it isn't 10%? Why is the media still throwing 10% around when it is actually 0.10%.

smilingmind · 11/07/2017 11:03

www.medical-air-service.co.uk/ambulance-aircraft.html

PP have been talking about the logistics of moving Charlie.
I knew medivac services existed as was signed up for one years ago when working in a war zone but didn't know anything about them.
This is one which says it has a ICU on board including ventilation and presumably there are others.
By posting this I'm not saying I think Charlie should be taken overseas, I really don't, but just saying it is theoretically possible.

allowlsthinkalot · 11/07/2017 11:03

I'm so sorry for the loss of your beautiful little girl callme. Thank you for sharing that here.

NotJanine · 11/07/2017 11:06

Unicorn The media seem to be very cautious of questioning anything the parents have said

1 in 10000 is 0.01%

AndHoldTheBun · 11/07/2017 11:13

I completely understand the media being hesitant to question the motivations and wisdom of parents in cases like this, they don't want to appear as unfeeling monsters do they?

Ellie56 · 11/07/2017 11:14

Where did Connie get the 1 in 10,000 (aka "10%" ) from?

AndHoldTheBun · 11/07/2017 11:15

But I do think contradictions in what the parents have said in interviews should be questioned.

Wornoutbear · 11/07/2017 11:16

For some reason I've just looked at the CA FB page. I just can't get my head round the attitudes of the posters, and the photos that "prove" what a healthy, thriving boy he is. He looks like a sad, sick baby. Poor, poor baby

i dont undrstand the 10% quote eithr why has noone corrected her or in court mentioned it

LovelyBath77 · 11/07/2017 11:25

What I don't understand (and I haven't watched it so only taking this from threads) is that Connie said it has a 1 in 10 000 chance of working, so 10%. Why has no one questioned this and told her it isn't 10%? Why is the media still throwing 10% around when it is actually 0.10%.

This was brought up yesterday in the court hearing. As I recall, the parents' lawyer said they hadn't said this, but it was brought up that they had. It seems perhaps the media are repeating it?
