Dog owner putting poo bags in my wheelie bin

ParanoidBeryl · 11/07/2017 00:46

Our council has a system of 3 wheelie bins, each get collected fortnightly. Black bin for landfill, blue for recycling, and brown for garden and food compost.

For the last three or four of times I have put out my brown bin, after it has been emptied, but before I have had a chance to bring it back in, some dog owner has put a black bag of dog shit into my brown bin.

AIBU to think this is gross? Not only does it mean it would fester for a fortnight in my bin, but the brown bins don't accept plastic, so there is every likelihood that the council wouldn't lift it if they noticed it, and it means plastic bags of dog shit are going for composting.

I assume it is the same dog owner each time, as it is the same type & colour of bag each time.

If you are a dog owner would you think this is ok?

PS op what will you do?

HipsterHunter · 11/07/2017 16:35

I still think we should have mandatory dog licenses (like, for £500 or something - if you can't afford £500 you can't afford to look after a dog properly) and then DNA test the dog as part of that.

Then any shit on the floor can be DNA tested and the owners can have a finger chopped off... or maybe just a fine.

Slimthistime · 11/07/2017 16:39

All the services the council have cut back, I think a charge to dog owners to cover the cost of those bins would be fair as well. That could be part of a licence.

I think some regulations covering the numbers of dogs which can be kept in any one home would be a good idea.

But yes £500 per year per dog would pay for proper dog wardens to be employed

I was tending more towards hanging and gibbeting, but I guess I'm getting soft in my old age.

brexitstolemyfuture · 11/07/2017 17:53

Talking about it sprayed on crops.

I lived in India and every day I had to turn on the pump to empty my cesspit and it was just dumped out on the rice paddy feild where workers were regularly there bare foot wading in it and tending to the rice we all ate Grin

CommanderShephard · 11/07/2017 18:56

We get it, provider. You hate dogs and their owner.

Jaynesworld · 11/07/2017 19:13

People wouldnt hate dog owners/dogs if we werent subjected to arsehole dog owners who dont pick up their dogs shit so we step in it. Bag dog shit and then fling it into bushes, hang it on trees/fences or pop it into our bins. Who allow their pets to invade our personal space, slobber all over us, getting covered in mud and steal our picnics.

Wornoutbear · 11/07/2017 19:31

I pick up our hounds poo, sometimes leave in the bins by the common, sometimes it has to come home. I also take out an extra carrier bag to pick up the rubbish left on the street. Last week someone had dumped on the side of the road 18 empty cans of cheap beer. So the went into my recycle bin. I pick up plastic bottles, glass bottles, rubbish every day. I can't understand why people just don't pick up what they bring - dog poo incuded

ItsGone · 11/07/2017 19:52

YANBU

It's revolting, lazy and really rude. Dog shit has its own special smell that I find worse than any normal bin smells. I don't hate dogs but I seriously hate dog shit.

SuburbanRhonda · 11/07/2017 20:10

You've obviously never smelled cat shit, itsgone Grin

Luncharmstrong · 11/07/2017 22:14

I agree with provider. So many dog owners are seriously deluded about the appeal of their dogs

provider5sectorzz9 · 11/07/2017 23:46

I dont dislike dogs, they are usually fun friendly creatures who easily form attachments with humans for mutual benefit.

But they are an indulgence, living toys, people have them for their own enjoyment which is fine but they can be a real annoyance to other people.
Only have a dog if you can do so without inflicting it on other people, we dont like dog shit all over the place, we dont want to be harassed or intimidated by your toys.

Overwhelmingly dog owners seem to feel that to have a dog, or more usually these days a small pack of them is everyones right and the rest of us just have to lump it and dodge the lumps of shit everywhere

CommanderShephard · 11/07/2017 23:57

You don't dislike them but you want them banned from towns. You dont like shit on the streets but still have a problem with people picking it up. Sounds like you would only be happy with a complete ban.

provider5sectorzz9 · 12/07/2017 00:26

I'd like dog free zones, or dogs to be confined to certain area's.
I dont see why non dog owners should have to put up with them

YellowLawn · 12/07/2017 07:44

I don't hate dogs.
I hate inconsiderate owners.

I also think that it is incredibly difficult, time consuming and expensive to keep a dog (or any pet in fact) well. many pet owners are not informing themselves as well as they should, don't do the research, don't spend enough money on insurance, eqipment and food. don't spend nearly enough time for exercise, grooming, training, don't have enough space (indoors or outdoors)...

ParanoidBeryl · 12/07/2017 14:15

Our council's website specifically says not to put dog waste into brown (composting) or blue bins (recycling) as it contaminates them.

I'm glad it's not just me who thinks it's gross. I'm actually surprised by the number of people who think it is ok to leave their dogs waste for other people to deal with. And it does absolutely stink.

trixymalixy · 12/07/2017 14:24

This used to drive me nuts! Someone used to put their dog poo in our recycling bins. Either it was at the bottom after it was emptied so i had to try and fish the bloody thing out or at the top then the bin men wouldn't take it.

So bloody selfish!!!!

provider5sectorzz9 · 12/07/2017 17:28

there is a pervading dog shit smell in many public area's these days, either from the bags of feces left at the sides of pavements, the bins of dog shit provided by the council, or the bags of excrement carried by dog owners, I try not to pass too closely since I can smell it as they go by.

It's better than the old days when people just left it but picking it up doesnt solve the problem of constantly being imposed upon by dog shit.
We need segregation, people with dogs can have their own shitty area's with their ever shitting fur babies

Abstractrobbie · 10/03/2018 09:52

I am sick of this happening too, not only do I get it deposited in my black bin but some clever and ignorant fools also seem to be colour blind and put it into the green bin too. I get sick and tired of having to physically check the contents of my green been before collection to avoid having a contamination sticker put on and the bin not emptied, just because some ignorant a-hole whom owns a s**te machine is unwilling to take responsibility for everything that goes with owning one.
I do not like dogs, I do not hate them, but I do not own them or enjoy them. I can't stand all the noise, trouble and of course mess.

I am waiting to actually catch someone doing this. When I do, I will be following them to see where they reside. Once established, I will proceed to begin depositing each and every turd I can find along with what is in my bins and see if they enjoy the ripe stench on a mid summers eve of the entire areas dog deposits from a two week period.

It is lazy, inconsiderate and thoughtless. I am not interested in 'So what am I supposed to do?' I do not care, why is it my problem? Take a decent larger plastic bag with you, put your little parcels in that and take the god damn stuff home with you, put it in your own bin.

Too much trouble? Smells bad? Then get rid of the dog. Rant over.

keepKalm · 14/03/2018 10:32

Definitely not ok to put bagged dog poo in someone else's bin

I don't want dog shit in my bin even if it's bagged.

bastardkitty · 14/03/2018 10:39

It's disgusting and for all those people going 'oh it's only poo in a bin' you ate absolutely not allowed to put any kind of shit in recycling or garden waste bins.

singleton9999999 · 30/09/2018 02:22

There are a some dog owners around here who think its enough to bag their dog poo and then just leave it - on the pavement, at the kerb (so a parking car can squash it and spread it), in my recycling bin (so council refuse collection - or leave it on my path). It's YOUR dog and YOUR mess - take it with YOU.
