Dog owner putting poo bags in my wheelie bin

ParanoidBeryl · 11/07/2017 00:46

Our council has a system of 3 wheelie bins, each get collected fortnightly. Black bin for landfill, blue for recycling, and brown for garden and food compost.

For the last three or four of times I have put out my brown bin, after it has been emptied, but before I have had a chance to bring it back in, some dog owner has put a black bag of dog shit into my brown bin.

AIBU to think this is gross? Not only does it mean it would fester for a fortnight in my bin, but the brown bins don't accept plastic, so there is every likelihood that the council wouldn't lift it if they noticed it, and it means plastic bags of dog shit are going for composting.

I assume it is the same dog owner each time, as it is the same type & colour of bag each time.

If you are a dog owner would you think this is ok?

If someone does this here then my bin will not be picked up by the collection. I don't understand it, but it happens without fail. I had trouble for a while with someone leaving bagged poo in my general waste bin on top of my bin bags... and it was all still there for me when I got home. I had to rebag it, wait for the next fortnightly collection while all my own waste stank out the neighbourhood and then hope it would be collected the next time.

So please please don't leave bagged dog poo in other people's bins!

AdoraBell · 11/07/2017 08:10

Provider5 I know how bad my dog's shit stinks, and so do other dog owners. That's exactly some of the disgusting fuckers don't want in their bins.

OP I would go for a bin lock and a big sign on the lid saying it's not a fucking municipal poo bin.

Ameliablue · 11/07/2017 08:10

As a dog owner, I'd never do that.

catloony · 11/07/2017 08:14

MrsEricBana
if you get a bin lock wouldn't you have to leave it unlocked on bin day

You can get gravity bin locks that open when tipped upside down on the truck

MeltorPeltor · 11/07/2017 08:17

Another dog owner who would never do this but if they can put it in the correct bin it's better than them not picking it up or picking it up and throwing the bag in a tree. I'd be annoyed at a loose dog poo in the bin but a bagged poo in the correct bin isn't the end of the world.

TronaldDump · 11/07/2017 08:24

Think yourself lucky. Some fuckwit near me bags up their dog shit and deposits it neatly on my garden wall. Yep, where my small children play. I'd rather the fuckers left it on the pavement to be honest Angry

DecoRules · 11/07/2017 08:31

Ah, I see the "entitled" dog owners are out in force. So refreshing to read the posts of owners who don't think it's ok to dump dog shit in other people's property.

InDubiousBattle · 11/07/2017 08:34

The amount of dog hating here, wow

No, very little dog hating. I don't hate dogs. I can't fucking stand the smell when I open my re cycling bin and some lazy arsehole has put a bag of dog shit in there. The is my paper/can/plastic re cycling bin. Everything in there is rinsed out so clean waste. I then have to fish said bag of shit out and deal with it. It's revolting.

If I change a nappy in a public toilet I will leave a dirty nappy if there's a specific nappy bin. If not I take it home. It's not fucking rocket science but seem to be completely beyond some of the dog owners in my village. We're just supposed to be grateful they pick it up at all Hmmor don't leave it hanging from a tree.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 11/07/2017 08:35

Dirty fucker!

Take your dog's shit home and put it in your own bit, or don't have a dog. If anyone put that in my bin I'd bloody well follow them home and put the opened bag through their door.

Mind you, people generally don't clean up after their dogs anyway where I live (middle class area if that makes any difference). Was walking down a local path with DD the other day and there was a smallish dog running loose and for some reason I didn't want it near us - not normally bothered by dogs in the slightest - so we walked quite slowly. The posh middle-aged woman with it stood and watched it shit in the middle of the path and called then it back to her but didn't put it on its lead. Next thing, it flew at a man and his dog walking down towards us, bit the dog and tried to bite the man. Was starting to catch up with them at this point so heard her snap at the man that nothing like that had ever happened before and his dog looked aggressive (!). She dragged her dog away and by now had got to the end of the path where she put the dog's lead on it and a bloody muzzle too! We were next to her by then so I gave her a piece of my mind. (sorry for irrelevant story but it made me feel better to get it off my chest)

MackerelOfFact · 11/07/2017 08:40

This happens to me, too - I'm actually less bothered about the dog shit in my non-recyclable waste than I am about the beer cans, water bottles and coffee cups because I can get fined for not recycling those.

The dog shit in my bin is less offensive than the cat shit in my garden TBH. At least I don't accidentally put my hand in it.

thereallochnessmonster · 11/07/2017 08:41

Poo is not for compost! Put a note on your bin. Or can you move your bin round the back of your house where it's not accessible to other people?

Salmotrutta · 11/07/2017 08:42

I'm fairly sure you're not supposed to put dog crap in garden waste bins?

Isn't it due to parasite contamination if it's being composted? Confused

Salmotrutta · 11/07/2017 08:43

TwoBusyCnuts · 11/07/2017 08:46

You need to catch the culprit OP, and then give them a piece of your mind.
Or follow them home and then put their dog shit through their letter box.

echt · 11/07/2017 08:46

You can compost dog poo, but make sure it doesn't' go on the veggie beds.

Salmotrutta · 11/07/2017 08:51

I still wouldn't fancy the idea of composted dog poo being on any part of the garden if there's a chance it's contaminated with toxocara though echt!

skyzumarubble · 11/07/2017 08:51

My dog's shit absolutely stinks I am under no illusions about that.

I would be mad if someone else put their dog shit in my bin op.

QuestionARhino · 11/07/2017 08:53

That's gross. I have never put my dog's shit (bagged an' all) into any wheelie in, including my own. If she happens to go in the garden then it's bagged and left by the front door ready to take on our next walk which always passes by at least 2 dog waste bins. On the odd occasions I've forgotten to take the bag with me a couple of days, when I bend down to pick it up you can smell it from outside the bag. And that's in a thicker, scented, high quality bag that's been sat in an airy space, not festering away in someone's warm wheelie bin. YANBU

troodiedoo · 11/07/2017 08:55

I'd wait and confront them. They will not be expecting it. Take a photo of them doing it.

Your bin is for your rubbish. Rudeness!

Blackadderspants · 11/07/2017 09:18

Oh OP that's revolting, bloody people. We have dogs and I'd never even think about putting their poo bags in someone else's bin. We carry a separate bag on walks and they either go in the dog poo bin or in our own bin when we get home.

When we used to live in a town we had some ratbag who would leave their dog poo bags underneath a tree right outside our house, on the pavement. I created a bright neon notice with huge red letters saying

"PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DOG POO BAGS ON THE PAVEMENT UNDER THIS TREE. YOU HAVE BEEN PHOTOGRAPHED AND I WILL CIRCULATE THE PHOTOGRAPHS THROUGH THE NEIGHBOURHOOD IF YOU DO THIS ONE MORE TIME"

It never happened again!

I would put a huge sign on the bin to that effect and see what happens. I guess the other way is to stake out the bin and catch them in the act, keep a camera handy even. Shame the sods!

ItWentInMyEye · 11/07/2017 09:31

It's Really selfish of them to do this. We had someone sneak at 12am and put the contents of their shitty cat litter tray into our grey bin! This was the other week when it was stinking hot even through the night. They don't want the smell, well neither do bloody we! DP saw who did it, took it out and put it in front of their house. It was gone the next morning and it's not happened again... yet!

WhiskyIrnBru · 11/07/2017 09:35

It's threads like these that make me realise how pathetic some people are. It's a bin!! Jesus. Does it really matter that much?

Youremywifenow · 11/07/2017 09:55

I had to buy a pressure hose to get rid of some dog shit which had welded itself to the bottom of my green bin, the bag had split and had 2 weeks in the heat. Took 3 soaks in hot water and bleach then hosing to get rid of it.
It is not ok to put dog shit in other people's bins.

I'd love to know how much it costs to clear up dog shit each year and have a tax on dog food which pays for it. I'd get rid of the fines and bring in community service for anyone who doesn't pick it up, a week on shit pick-up duty.
