Dog owner putting poo bags in my wheelie bin

ParanoidBeryl · 11/07/2017 00:46

Our council has a system of 3 wheelie bins, each get collected fortnightly. Black bin for landfill, blue for recycling, and brown for garden and food compost.

For the last three or four of times I have put out my brown bin, after it has been emptied, but before I have had a chance to bring it back in, some dog owner has put a black bag of dog shit into my brown bin.

AIBU to think this is gross? Not only does it mean it would fester for a fortnight in my bin, but the brown bins don't accept plastic, so there is every likelihood that the council wouldn't lift it if they noticed it, and it means plastic bags of dog shit are going for composting.

I assume it is the same dog owner each time, as it is the same type & colour of bag each time.

If you are a dog owner would you think this is ok?

echt but they arent disposing of it responsibly

Jaynes The part I copied was an intemperate rant by Provider about dog owners putting dog shit in bags, and had nothing to do with disposal.

MrsEricBana · 11/07/2017 07:21

If you had a bin lock wouldn't you have to leave it unlocked on bin day anyway?

allegretto · 11/07/2017 07:21

It does stink. To all those saying it's not that bad, if it's not that bad, why cant you just carry it home? Gross.

KoalaDownUnder · 11/07/2017 07:24

Yep. It's a special kind of stink, alright. I love my dog to death, but even I'll admit that!

christinarossetti · 11/07/2017 07:24

One of our neighbours got a bin lock for this very reason.

The person them put their dog's shit on top of their bin.

echt · 11/07/2017 07:25

For myself, I put dog shit bags in other bins when passing, but only on the day I know they will be collected (Friday) and are out on the nature strip.

These bags are not my own dog's shit, which goes into the council's bin at the park, but those I've picked up off the street when walking the pooch.

Wolfiefan · 11/07/2017 07:25

I have a dog. I use a poo bin, public bin if no poo bin or carry it home. I wouldn't use a stranger's bin. It's not mine and not public.
Gross.

BrunoMartelli · 11/07/2017 07:27

I'm a dog owner and I never put my dog's poo in other people's bins. However, my local council has an 'any bin, anywhere' policy in relation to dogs and, as our bins belong to the council, rather than residents, this means that people can use residential bins.
There are far too few litter bins on our streets. Perhaps we should be campaigning for more so that people don't feel the need to use residential ones.

Forthispostonly · 11/07/2017 07:30

We are near a local dog walking area and our bin can easily be reached from the public path (nowhere else it can go). We were getting this 3 or more times a week until I put a sign on our bin saying,
THE NEAREST BIN FOR DOG FAECES
IS ON XXXX STREET.
DO NOT USE THIS BIN.

That was a year ago and we've not had the problem since.

TheFirstMrsDV · 11/07/2017 07:33

Someone posted about this on a local dog group.
He was ranting that a woman told him not to put his dog poo in her bin.
He was sure it was something to do with her being Asian and expected us all to agree with him.
We all told him to stop being such a lazy git and take it home or put it in one of the many public bins.

Collaborate · 11/07/2017 07:35

Another dog owner here.

I always out it in a public bin or take it home unless it's a bin collection day, and I pass a landfill bin on the pavement that has yet to be emptied. I would never put it in a bin that wouldn't be emptied for days.

YellowLawn · 11/07/2017 07:37

Must admit am guilty of occasionally putting a bag of poop in a sented bag into someone else's blue bin

WHY?
why do you think this is acceptable?
it isn't. maybe you ahouldn't have a dog.

your dog - your dog's shit to deal with.

SoupDragon · 11/07/2017 07:41

I have once put a bag in a bin on bin day (and the lorry was in the road collecting as it happens) but I would never do it otherwise.

However, I wouldn't have a problem with someone putting a bag in my landfill bin.

megletthesecond · 11/07/2017 07:45

It's disgusting.

Someone put dog poo in my bin a few years ago. It stank Angry.

Buddyelf · 11/07/2017 07:47

People do this in my bin and at the risk of a back lash I actually don't mind. Happens infrequently and we live near an opening to a small alley that takes you to a park, no public bins to be seen! I would rather them chuck in our bin than leave on the floor or tied to the park fence (I've actually seen this!)

Decaffstilltastesweird · 11/07/2017 07:49

Yanbu. This is lazy and disgusting. Bin lock and sign. I honestly can't believe anyone thinks this is ok. I used to have dogs and would never have considered this ever. Finding the nearest poo bin or take it home with you. Ridiculous to say "would you rather it was left in the street"? There are other options Hmm.

MrsBotox · 11/07/2017 07:53

Are all the people on here to think it's unacceptable to put a sealed dog poo bag in a bin the same ones who think it's OK to leave filled nappies in other people's houses (thread on here) or in public toilets? I've even seen shitty nappies left in car parks. Poo is poo - get over it.

cooldarkroom · 11/07/2017 07:53

Anecdote. I gave a mouthful to a woman who walked by my house 3 times a day with her pocket dog.
It's a private track, she walked through a small close of houses to get to it, instead of walking down the main drag, as it's not tarmac.
I love dogs, & have 2, but I was fed up with her dog pissing on my gate, & it's shit all over our track.
She said it doesn't have a Private property sign.
I asked her if she was OK with me coming into her property & letting my dogs shit in her garden & on the road ? that would be OK would it ? & wasn't it an offence to not remove the shit ? She clearly had no bags with her (in lycra, no pockets) if it's an offence in the village, it's an offence on my private property.
Turns out she was a policewoman from the local police station (they have lodgings there)
I was on a roll by then & said, so that means you can have your own rules does it ? If you or any more of your colleagues use this as a dog septic tank, I'll be coming into the Police Station & taking it up with your chief.
She hasn't been back.
OH was furious, thinks I should have just backed off & says we will now be in the eagle eye of this woman. Try me.

Mummyamy123 · 11/07/2017 07:54

I have done this twice in the past, while walking with 2 toddlers and 2 dogs and forgot poo bags. I don't make a habit of forgetting bags- I walk them every day. But on these occasions I forgot. Once I picked it up in a tissue and the other in a nappy. But with the whole brood there was no way I had a free hand for a tissue full of poo. On these occasions I did put it in someone's bin. Because the options were do that or leave it on the pavement- a real bug bear of mine because then you tread in it, it gets in your house, and it's your carpet that stinks not your bin.........

GinIsIn · 11/07/2017 07:56

I really can't get worked up about this. It's a BIN. I'm not licking the inside of it, or using it to prepare my baby's food. I really don't care if people put a bagged poo in it. It's usually full of shitty nappies anyway!

ClaudiaWankleman · 11/07/2017 07:59

Gross behaviour.

If you think it's acceptable, or have been brought up to think it's acceptable, to put your rubbish in anyone else's bin, then you need reeducation.

Decaffstilltastesweird · 11/07/2017 08:02

MrsBotox

It is unacceptable to leave faeces of any species (oh that rhymes Grin) in somebody else's bin. My DH once left one of dd's poo nappies in a friend's bin and when I found out, I texted to apologise and sent a massively bunch of flowers. Ditto leaving bins in non-poo bins in public places. Wrap them up and take them home or to nearest poo bin. Everyone I know does the same.

Goingtobeawesome · 11/07/2017 08:02

Everywhere I go I see dog walkers merrily swinging the bags of shit, picking up and carrying this gift seems to have engendered a new and disturbing level of intimacy between the fur baby and the owners.

Provider these people are carrying their animals waste to the next bin, do you really have an issue with that?!

Decaffstilltastesweird · 11/07/2017 08:03

Massive bunch of flowers*

SoupDragon · 11/07/2017 08:04

I now have a neoprene bag from Duck Soup that attaches to the handle of the lead. It has poo bags in the lid and the filled bags get sealed into the pouch part and then tipped into my own bin. Far better than a swinging bag of shit whilst you're walking and most of the smell is contained in the neoprene bag.
