(Lighthearted) To get a bit miffed when people who aren't petite shop in the petite section

Is that even a valid reason

I don't care if you're large or not. I was talking about the two 5"8 + girls and those that are generally that height

You sound a bit jealous of those girls. Hmm

People can shop where they want.

VladmirsPoutine · 11/07/2017 11:38

OP, you went wrong here with talking about size. People are very very touchy about it. I have no idea why. But your rather reasonable light-hearted post struck a few bad notes with some.

Letitrain · 11/07/2017 11:46

My dd is 'petite' (short). She shops in the petite sections of Next etc. Why are so many of their petite clothes displayed on the high rails that she can't reach?!

LalalalaaaCantHearYou · 11/07/2017 11:48

Paxillin - thank you

Nowhere have I ever referred to or it even crossed my mind about 'fat shaming'
It seems it has touched a sore spot for some when there was no reference to those who are heavier AT ALL
There is always a smaller choice in clothes for the petite i.e those who are shorter not fatter

I have seen some who don't read that they are in the petite section with one lady realising in Topshop and then proceeding to put 3 items on another rack

I'm sure those who have taken this whole thing out of proportion never ever have a slightly irrational peeves.

This WAS meant to be light hearted

Of course people can shop / buy whatever they want

Bizarre thread. I'm petite and I couldn't care less if Hagrid was browsing the racks alongside me.

I did get told off in Evans (do they still have Evans?!) some years ago as I was absolutely huge when pregnant and went in to try to find something that fit. A woman started having a go at me about how it wasn't for "people like you who are only temporarily size 16". I scurried out. I sort of saw her point but she didn't need to vocalise her displeasure.

I have been in the children's sections a few times, but generally the clothes are not very grown up (huh! what a cheek!). I caught on to the children's shoe sizes and smugly ordered a pair of boots from MiniBoden at half the price of the adult ones. Upon their arrival I realised sadly that I do not have kids' calves .

Just remembered that my mum had petite clothes from the most dreadfully named Richard Stump . Imagine your label showing!

paxillin · 11/07/2017 12:00

Richard Stump is almost as good as bull rhino.

wifeyhun · 11/07/2017 12:02

I'm fat and tall and I am always looking in the petite section at clothes for my teen. How bizarre.

stolemyusername · 11/07/2017 12:06

Next time I'm shopping, I'm going to get petite dd to hide in the clothing rails and jump out shouting 'imposter' at anyone that doesn't fit the op's rules.

Dizzywhore · 11/07/2017 12:13

I'm 5 11 once brought a dress in the petite section. I'm so sorry if that has offended you! Hmm

wondering23 · 11/07/2017 12:16

Why does it matter? People should just shop wherever the clothes fit them.

I once bought a size 6 dress from Next. I was a size 10 really, but that particular dress looked so much better on me in a smaller size for some reason. Should I have bought the dress 2 sizes too big because I wasn't really a 6? Or not bought it at all?

Shop clothes sizes are daft anyway.

CrazyExIngenue · 11/07/2017 12:17

It's all about proportions isn't it. My brother is 6 ft 4 but has the legs of a guys whose 5 ft 6. He says he needs to buy short, fat man trousers. I'm sure no one believes him when he goes to pick them out at the store and if they had petite mens stores I'm sure they would think he was taking the piss.

Bunlicker · 11/07/2017 12:25

Sure op. Hmm

If people are buying clothes in the petite section it's because that part of their body fits the petite section. They would be stupid to buy other clothes that don't fit them.

I would not for example get annoyed at a 5 foot 2 person venturing in to the standards sizes, because I'm not insane.

If you want to get annoyed be a very tall woman with short legs. No trousers fit you.

Bunlicker · 11/07/2017 12:26

CrazyExIngenue

Your brother is the man version of me! Normal trousers are too short because of the waist and then long trousers hang on the floor. I should start getting them made...

daisychainagain · 11/07/2017 12:35

Glad that's all you've got to be annoyed at. Hmm

amusedbush · 11/07/2017 12:46

It's all about proportions isn't it. My brother is 6 ft 4 but has the legs of a guys whose 5 ft 6.

My DH is 6' 3 and wears a 32" leg. My brother is 5' 9 and wears a 32" leg! I once made a comment about DH's long body and he was mortally offended Confused

BlahBlahBlahEtc · 11/07/2017 12:51

I'm 5'11 and was shopping in the petite section the other day ..

Because I was buying a present for some one else.

wonkylegs · 11/07/2017 12:56

I hate that petite ranges are generally for under 5'4" so generally are still too long when you are 4'11"
I just learnt to shorten and alter stuff from an early age (I'm a size 8 with big boobs and a 21in waist so nothing normal fits anyway) and shop from the normal range as I then have more choice than the 5 items the store deem appropriate to make in petite. It's a faff but the only way.

OrangeFluff · 11/07/2017 13:26

I'm 5'11" and would like there to be much more choice in tall sections, as I really struggle to get standard size clothes that fit properly. The more people that buy tall the better- shops will want to meet the higher demand and then offer a wider range of choice.

Surely that is exactly the same for petite too?

LalalalaaaCantHearYou · 11/07/2017 13:27

Wonkylegs- just a tip if you buy anything for £19.90 at Uniqlo they take it up free otherwise £3 which still is reasonable compared to elsewhere

The80sweregreat · 11/07/2017 14:18

i sometimes have a look by accident, then see the sign that says ' go away to the overweight/ normal bit ' and i quickly disappear again.
i see the staff smiling as i run off to the bit where i belong.
i dont often go shopping however, so this is rare event. i hate clothes shopping.

GallicosCats · 11/07/2017 14:50

I have only recently realised that petite skirts fit me better round the waist because the distance between waist and high hip is a lot less. 5 foot 3 with normal back waist and short chunky legs.

TheDowagerCuntess · 11/07/2017 15:40

So you're annoyed (so annoyed, that you're moved to start a thread on here) when non-petite types realise they're in the wrong section... and put items back in the wrong place...?

How often is this happening to you, exactly?

paxillin · 11/07/2017 16:14

To be fair, most of us don't have to be very annoyed to post a thread on here. People post about what other people wear on the school run/ to a wedding, how people hang the bog roll back to front and how hot/ cold/ wet it is Grin.
