UnRavellingFast · 11/07/2017 00:31

I remember very humiliating moment whilst pregnant but only looking plump not preggers and wandering into petit section by accident. Shop worker walked up and kindly advised me that I would find nothing for me there because it was for petite women! I could have been buying for someone else, I could have been looking for shorter clothes, whatever, she made me feel hot with embarrassment- pregnancy hormones. I would give her what for nowadays but was shy and over sensitive then haha.

paxillin · 11/07/2017 00:31

Bull rhino Grin. I imagine the sister brand cow rhino went bust?

MrsJayy · 11/07/2017 00:31

It should be called bull rhino. Much manlier. I bet female rhinos are bad girls, too.

SerfTerf · 11/07/2017 00:41

So I can't buy clothes for my DD in case it pisses you off? Confused

JuicyCake · 11/07/2017 00:44

I don't even notice the different sections in shops. I could be browsing the Petite or Tall without even knowing...

IloveBanff · 11/07/2017 00:45

OP, would you please explain why you are miffed that anyone you deem not petite is shopping in the petite section. How does it impact on you at all? I seriously don't get it.

SerfTerf · 11/07/2017 00:49

Please don't give a "safe space" answer OP.

bbpp · 11/07/2017 00:49

... Eh? If you're not petite, you wouldn't fit in the clothes, so you wouldn't buy them... surely?

I'm 5ft 4.5 which I think isn't technically petite, but some of the clothes in that range fit me better, and sometimes they have a piece I like that isn't in the normal size range. If I want it, and it looks good, I'll buy it.

haveacupoftea · 11/07/2017 00:52

Not as bad as when thin people wander into the fat section where we fatties are lurking like trolls. The thin people look horrified to discover us holding our size 22 tops and scare us into scurrying away, back to ASDA where the bigger sizes are allowed to hang on the shelves with the others.

IloveBanff · 11/07/2017 00:57

MrsJayy 25" trousers? I am 5' 6" (most of my life I was 5' 7" but I have shrunk with age). Unfortunately I need 32" trousers because I have very long legs but a very short top half. To make it even worse, I have 40G bra size! Can you imagine how awful that looks? Very short waisted 40G top half with very long slim legs. Really weird-looking and embarrassing. Blush I look as if two completely mis-matched bodies have been joined at the waist by a mad scientist.

I don't think I would notice, let alone care and be 'miffed' enough to start an MN thread if I thought someone was browsing an inappropriate section. Anyway, they could be looking for clothes for someone else. It's not something you need to concern yourself with as it doesn't impact on you at all.

BeepBeepMOVE · 11/07/2017 01:02

Actually agree with you when it's sale items! Not much petite stuff goes on sale and its really bloody annoying when massive people steal all the bargains. It's only because that too short trouser and crop top type look is in.

BeepBeepMOVE · 11/07/2017 01:05

Ilovebanf

32 is "normal" for someone whose 5ft 6!

32 inch leg is standard fit. 28/29 is normally petite and 34/25 long in high street shops.

steff13 · 11/07/2017 01:15

Lighthearted or not, the OP hasn't really explained why she is "a bit miffed." I struggle to understand why one would even notice?

For the record, OP, I'm 5'9", and I used to occasionally shop the petite section for my 4'11" grandmother. Acceptable?

IloveBanff · 11/07/2017 01:18

Really? 30" inside leg is standard and 32" inside leg is long IME. I don't think I've ever seen a 34" inside leg trouser length anywhere.

SerfTerf · 11/07/2017 01:28

I think I'm your body double @IloveBanff Grin Commiserations Smile

Yes 30" or 31" is "regular" length leg, 32" or 33" is long

IloveBanff · 11/07/2017 01:31

Thankyou SerfTerf and the same to you. Grin

BarbaraofSeville · 11/07/2017 04:20

Sometimes regular is 32 and long is 34 - eg GAP.

I really don't think there are enough undeserving averagely heighted people shopping in the petite section to make a difference to the OP but I agree with a PP who says any increase in demand is good as it will mean they make a bigger petite range.

If you want to get annoyed about something size related, how about M&Ss stupid policy of putting small shoes on the top shelf and large shoes on the bottom shelf?

More than once I've had to pass a pair of size 3s to a short woman who can't reach the top shelf before folding my long legged 5'7 self down to the ground to get to the size 7s.
