(Lighthearted) To get a bit miffed when people who aren't petite shop in the petite section

Is that even a valid reason

OP posts:
KnucklestheEchidna · 11/07/2017 08:24

I've had this (lighthearted!) thought as well. Particularly when I was younger and the petite ranges were just getting started, so were very very limited. At 4'11", most normal ranges do not fit me at all so it was a bit like 'Back off! I have less choice than you anyway!". I'm not as fussed now the petite ranges have been expanded and are in most stores now.

HoneyDragon · 11/07/2017 08:32

Can anywhere here and explain how Gap works?

I'm short. Several "standard" length jeans fit me perfectly. The petite range are always at least two inches too long.Confused.

I'm thinking it's the new vanity sizing. Like the fact that my 36" waist husband wears a 30" waist jean in Gap inches. They are now marketing the petite/short arse range to mske tall people feel shorter Grin

MrsJayy · 11/07/2017 08:41

Nothing fits me in gap its a strange shop

e1y1 · 11/07/2017 08:42

For Men, they should make their sections as to how men address small/tall people.

Short arses and Lanky buggers Grin

TriJo · 11/07/2017 09:06

You'd hate me, 5'5" and size 14 but I end up in short leg jeans a lot because I have such stumpy legs.

InfiniteSheldon · 11/07/2017 09:14

I like the shorter length jeans/skirts on my long legs why shouldn't I buy them? I don't really understand why it annoys you?

IWouldLikeToSeeTheseMangoes · 11/07/2017 10:36

Yeah you're right OP because...well i suppose....and there's the issue of....nope I've got nothing. Notify the fashion police immediately there need to be armed guards manning these departments and if at a glance they decide a shopper has no business being there they can taser them on sight.

Camomila · 11/07/2017 10:42

How do you feel about people who shop in the children's section? Grin

All my winter boots and trainers tend to come from the girls section. Why would I spend £60 on boots/trainers when there's basically the same ones in the girls bit for £30. Plus I have oddly skinny ankles/calves and women's shoes tend to be too wide at the top.

LoniceraJaponica · 11/07/2017 10:52

My issue is that some shops do completely different ranges in petite clothes, and often they are nicer. I am looking at you Wallis.

Why can't they do a standard version as well as a petite one in the same clothes style?

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 11/07/2017 10:54

Where the heck are these petite sections? I've not seen them around for years! I thought it had mainly gone online other than a few department stores like Debenhams.

What bothers me more is that "short length" is being lengthened by stealth. I need to get 3 inches taken off my new M&S "short" 29 inch jeans to make them wearable. At a perfectly average (for a short arse) 5 ft 2, my 26 inch legs are perfectly normally proportioned. I just about got away with the previous length of 27 inches.

And yy to the size 3 shoes being put up out of sight, although I suppose I should grovel with gratitude that a few shops still acknowledge that size 3 is a woman's size.

I can sometimes buy children's clothes, but I tend to be too much of a pear shape for most things other than tops. Children's shoes are problematic because they're either too narrow, too pink/sparkly/ flowery (because they're aimed at 9 year olds) or just don't have the longevity because they're designed to be grown out of in a few months.

I love my new age 13-14 shorts with adjustable button waist. I wish it was a standard feature on women's clothes.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 11/07/2017 10:56

There's nothing "light hearted" about fat shaming.

Neverknowing · 11/07/2017 11:01

Why the fuck would this annoy you? I'm 5ft 10 and I'll shop where I like thank you very much.
Also petite ranges are usually very cute and it's annoying they don't do everything in petite and larger sizes tbh.

IWouldLikeToSeeTheseMangoes · 11/07/2017 11:02

Yeah I think the "lighthearted" was the equivalent of when folk say "I don't mean to be a bitch but..." proceeds to say something bitchy

Clembarrass · 11/07/2017 11:03

I used to shop in the petite section when I was a teen, because I could get short dresses that showed off my legs.

People should be able to buy the size of clothes that they feel fits them best.

paxillin · 11/07/2017 11:07

There's nothing "light hearted" about fat shaming.

Really really slowly now.. PETITE=SHORT. Not fat.

As has been said many many times upthread.

MackerelOfFact · 11/07/2017 11:08

As a short-arse, I get naffed off at 'Petite' ranges being MORE EXPENSIVE than the equivalent normal versions. Why, just why?!

I then have the double whammy of being charged more for my G cup bras (although that does make more sense).

AwaywiththePixies27 · 11/07/2017 11:08

Another 5ft 2'er who'd piss you right off as well here.

Also. Yeah I'm fat but my best friend is shorter than me and much skinnier and I sometime get nice stuff for her as birthday and Christmas presents etc. Non petite people shopping may be shopping for a very petite friend.

dontpokethebear · 11/07/2017 11:09

lalala I'm 5'8", but I have ridiculously short legs, so I shop in the petite section. Is that not OK? I'd hate to think I was upsetting anyone.

Fuck off.

Bluntness100 · 11/07/2017 11:12

What a bizzare topic. To wish to protect the petite section in random shops from non petite people. You really must lead s charmed or very bored life if you give s shiny shit.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 11/07/2017 11:12

Its really strange HoneyDragon. We tried getting DS some new school trousers and places like Debenhams and that were far too tight for him. He's a proper skinny minny too!

After trying several shops in the city, we settled on good old Asda. Same size trousers - fit him perfectly!

amusedbush · 11/07/2017 11:13

I'm 5' 5 but have a 28" inside leg so need petite jeans. I also have a really long body so I get tall tops.

I'm built like a t-rex, or a womble Blush

MrsJayy · 11/07/2017 11:13

Where is the fat shaming am i missing something?

LoniceraJaponica · 11/07/2017 11:13

Somewhat Wallis and Next do loads of petite clothes.

dontpokethebear · 11/07/2017 11:17

Oh and to really piss you off I get tops and dresses in the 'tall' section, to accommodate my ridiculously long body...

unavita · 11/07/2017 11:18

At 160cm I'm taller than the average woman in loads and loads of countries around the world but normal length stuff looks stupid on me, have short limbs but feel far too sturdily built to be happy browsing the petite ranges.
