Is that even a valid reason

OP posts:
TheDowagerCuntess · 11/07/2017 05:16

Posting, just so that I can hopefully understand why on earth this could be a thing that would annoy someone.

Mummyoflittledragon · 11/07/2017 05:29

Who made you the clothing police? At 5'7", I am normal to longer length in the leg. And petite in the top. Do grow up.

SenecaFalls · 11/07/2017 05:35

I'm 5'8" but I have a short waist and narrow shoulders. Petite tops often fit better.

scaryclown · 11/07/2017 05:35

I always thought the petite section was like the unzoomed pictures on the Internet. It's annoying that this isn't a teeny timy version of the overall stock. It would save loads of browsing time..

CostaCoffeeRoyalty · 11/07/2017 05:37

Even the usual section of the clothes doesn't fit me. Sometimes being tall is ridiculous!

scaryclown · 11/07/2017 05:39

Is anyone else imagining clothes shops as being like jurassic Park with big packs of large ruminants in the fat area and rabid manic raptors ripping the petite area to shreds? Grin

UmmAandY · 11/07/2017 06:05

I'm 174cm which I think is 5'8? And I often look in the petite section as I got a long upper body but really short legs

Humm1ngb1rd · 11/07/2017 06:17

Errm, i just wish they'd devote the same amount of space to size 8+ shoes and clothes for taller people and then perhaps when i pick something up that i realise later is petite i won't feel like screaming Grin

KoalaDownUnder · 11/07/2017 06:26

i'm sick of people who think putting lighthearted in titles is carte blanche to write any old guff no matter how little sense it makes

Yeah, quite. Followed by a few cryptic one-sentence updates 🙄

AuntieStella · 11/07/2017 06:38

Girls who are 5ft8 have a really difficult time shopping, because the children's ranges won't fit them, even if they still fit their classmates.

So if they want very short skirts, they're probably stuck with petite sections, even in shops like New Look.

However, women who are short have more options than those girls, as can probably shop in children's departments. I've realised that since I lost weight, I can fit into a girls age 14 (ish, depending on make)

TrojanWhore · 11/07/2017 06:39

"lighthearted" in a thread title is very unMumsnetty, which can be a useful label (whether petite or not) on what's ahead.

NeitherKilnerNorMason · 11/07/2017 06:41

I am petite and often shop from the 'tall' online section of Gap because I like tops to cover my non petite arse. So there.

Groupie123 · 11/07/2017 06:42

I'm 5 7. Have to shop in petite for my jackets/tops (short waisted, narrow shoulders), and in the tall section for my trousers.

BarbaraofSeville · 11/07/2017 06:48

Not what you wanted OP but this thread has made me want to try the Petite section for tops Grin.

At 5'7 I've always assumed it's not for me but all my height is in my legs but I definitely have narrow shoulders so sendcas comment has prompted me to have a look next time I go shopping.

Catsize · 11/07/2017 06:50

I've always wanted a 'grande' section. I avoid the stumpy section like the plague.

Amanduh · 11/07/2017 06:52

I'm not petite. I'm 5'9. I have long legs and a relatively short torso, so petite tops fit perfectly.
I'm not sure whay business this would be of yours or why it would annoy you.

Amanduh · 11/07/2017 06:53

*what

embo1 · 11/07/2017 06:53

I am a size 12, 5ft5, so not petite.

I sometimes prefer a shorter dress as my legs are my best feature (IMO)

Sorry not sorry

littleducks · 11/07/2017 06:54

I didn't realise petite had any connection to slim Blush

I thought it was petite/standard/tall and then 8-18 for slim/fatness

NotACleverName · 11/07/2017 06:58

Further proof, if any more were needed, that every thread with "lighthearted" in the title is a load of bollocks.

Sweetpotatoaddict · 11/07/2017 07:02

I've no idea why shops have a petite section, but no tall section.....

Sleeves are always too short on me in the regular range. I'm not sure adding a grill would look right, however if things are too long surely you can alter them

HappyAxolotl · 11/07/2017 07:09

I'm 5ft4. I sometimes buy tops i the Tall section as often the standard ones finish right on my waist and I really don't want my belly out at work. Or, indeed, ever.

I'm borderline petite/standard and often try on both to see which fits best. You can bet that if I want a suit of jacket, trousers and skirt/dress that the items that fit best will be a mix of petites and standards. And at least 2 different dress sizes. None of which seem to correspond with the width or length of the part of me it fits.

silkpyjamasallday · 11/07/2017 07:12

I'm 5'5" and I shop in petite for jeans as I have very short legs (shorter than my DM who is 3 inches shorter than me) but I shop in tall for tops as I have a very long body (if I sit next to DPs friend who is 6'7" our shoulders are the same height) Surely people just shop wherever the clothes will be the right fit? Nothing to get pissed off about. I know petite stuff rarely ends up in the same, but for jeans I sometimes just buy regular jeans that are described as cropped. Often works out cheaper, I just bought 3 pairs for £9.99 in the Zara sale

Coddiwomple · 11/07/2017 07:19

People look so much better when they buy clothes that fit properly, regardless of the labels. The only issue with petite/regular/tall is that you have to try on even more sizes to find the perfect fit and shops doj't always allow enough items in the changing rooms.

slkk · 11/07/2017 07:26

I quite enjoy taking my 6 foot self into the petite section sometimes and moaning that there is nothing to fit.
I don't like shopping.
