I wonder if the parents have become so wrapped up in the fight that they've lost sight of everything.

I partly blame the media for that. Every parent would fight for their child but I think the reason these parents have all the contacts is they are being fed them.

I do truely believe that they believe they are doing what's right for Charlie though.

It's just a sad case all around

BoreOfWhabylon · 08/07/2017 21:13

The 'Charlie's Law' that should come from this, is one preventing the exploitation of desperately ill young children via published and social media, however unintentionally or however distressing the adults' situation may be. Sympathy for the parents' situation is repeatedly starting to step over the line of basic safeguarding.

Well said.

Merrymumoftwo · 08/07/2017 21:15

I have a friend whose daughter has to go in for major surgery soon. She is terrified of having to run the gauntlet of protestors and her child being hurt. Hoping they don't go to the hospital out of compassion for other families of children needing or having care

Cookiesandcake · 08/07/2017 21:17

I read in the newspaper today that the doctors caring for Charlie have been given research from 8 top experts in the field of Charlie's condition, and the doctors are now reapplying to the courts on the side of Charlie's parents. I don't know how true this is, but that's what the papers said. If it is true then the doctors caring for Charlie have changed their stance and are opting for treatment

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/07/2017 21:17

This American nutjob pastor is just bizarre - what good can it achieve?

More exposure and income potential for the pastor perhaps? Hmm

At least the crazy idea about putting cameras in Charlie's area should be easy to deflect, if as I hope GOSH are able to say what will and will not be allowed in their ICU

Doubledottvremote · 08/07/2017 21:22

They need to stamp out this random people thinking they can drop into icu. They probably pulled the religious card on him.

CaveMum · 08/07/2017 21:22

Cookies the statement from GOSH yesterday said they had not changed their position with regards to Charlie and this "treatment". They've gone back to the Courts essentially to hope that the Judge will rule against the treatment - the most likely outcome.

ZerbaPadnaTigre · 08/07/2017 21:26

If you look at the pastor's Facebook page, in with all of the posts about Charlie, he's mentioned speaking at a conference in London today. You don't travel to another country to support one family, funded to the tune of $2k by their supporters, and have a quick Google just in case there are any local conferences you can drop in on. Maybe I'm just cynical but I suspect he was on his way over here anyway.

CoolCarrie · 08/07/2017 21:27

The parents need to let Charlie go, grieve for him and move on to receive help they need to come to terms with their loss. Perhaps, in time, they can use ivf to conceive another child using the 3 parent treatment as they will not be able to have another child without help, due to the fact that the condition Charlie suffers from is carried in his mother's genes.

AndHoldTheBun · 08/07/2017 21:27

Cookies- that would surprise me, as the GOSH statement about the new court hearing is quite clearly pointing out that their opinion on Charlie's condition hasn't changed.

My heart goes out to all the staff, parents and patients at GOSH having to deal with the negative media and, it seems, CA activists turning up to cause trouble tomorrow.

WankYouForTheMusic · 08/07/2017 21:27

I hope the police rapidly disperse any gathering outside the hospital

With water cannon.

Devonishome1 · 08/07/2017 21:27

Cave man- I hope you're right. I hope the court again rejects the proposed treatment. That poor little baby. I agree that the parents seem to be delusional.

Sostenueto · 08/07/2017 21:27

I don't think the parents are in their right minds at the minute. They are so grief-stricken they cannot see what they are doing to their little boy. But I agree with a previous poster it seems to be about their grief rather than what's best for Charlie. I am afraid someone, somewhere us going to have to take this matter in hand, someone official. 3 courts have ruled, they cannot all be wrong. It is not about the quantity of life but the quality. Bradleys parents even said that enough was enough, no more could be done for him and they had to let go for his sake, bless him. Bless Charley too. If the parents go on much longer they could be in danger of Charley being made a ward of court and they will lose all their rights. It seems to me they should have had more councelling to deal with this terrible tragedy.

Rhodiolia · 08/07/2017 21:28

Cookiesandcake, GOSH released a statement saying they have not changed their stance. The press are twisting things.

NerrSnerr · 08/07/2017 21:31

I have just seen on the FB page that they're planning on turning up outside the court on Monday. It's a circus, everyone just wants to be part of it, whatever it is. I don't know how anyone can look at that latest photo of Charlie and not think he is suffering.

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 08/07/2017 21:33

carrie that makes sense

It also goes part way to explaining the mothers actions and behaviour here. I'm guessing she's feeling guilty if it's a gene she carries which has affected Charlie

I hadn't thought of it like that

DorotheaBeale · 08/07/2017 21:34

It seems to me they should have had more councelling to deal with this terrible tragedy.

Very likely it was offered, but they can't be forced to accept it.

Years ago, a family member had a child in GOSH with a very serious diagnosis. The family was offered all kinds of support.

GOSH has a chaplaincy, which Charlie's parents could have called on, if they wanted spiritual guidance and prayer.

GabsAlot · 08/07/2017 21:37

and thats exactly the problm people believing random stories from papers like th sun

coz they always tell the truth

Cookiesandcake · 08/07/2017 21:48

GabsAlot precisely why I said I don't know how true it is, as I know what the press are like for printing false stories.

53rdWay · 08/07/2017 21:49

Bradleys parents even said that enough was enough, no more could be done for him and they had to let go for his sake, bless him.

I worry that Charlie's parents have surrounded themselves with supporters so extreme and deluded that they wouldn't ever be able to make a statement like that. It would go so much against everything they've been saying and hearing and it would make almost all their supporters turn on them.

I can't say I would have made any better decisions than Charlie's parents if my child was that ill. But God, I'd like to think that enough of my loved ones would be there to help me face reality, not just back up my delusions.

Butterymuffin · 08/07/2017 21:52

That pastor is a disgrace. A genuine person of faith would not behave in that way, nor would they need to pray over the patient for prayer to be effective. It's comforting for patients themselves but sadly Charlie is unable to be aware of that.

SocksBoatsAndQats · 08/07/2017 21:56

So, throwing it out there. There is a thing about laying on of hands when praying for healing. So thats potentially why they wanted him to see Charlie.

However, it should have been arranged at a convinient time for everybody, including the staff.

The army are going on how its a disgrace, but bloody infection control!! There are very ill children in that unit, you can't let every Tom, Dick and Sally in off of the street. Angry

TheFairyCaravan · 08/07/2017 21:57

I'm disgusted that those idiots are going to rally outside the hospital. Do they think Charlie is the only child in there? Parents will lose children at GOSH tomorrow, siblings will lose brothers and sisters. They don't need to be subjected to that. I do hope the police move them on pretty bloody smartish.

user1498911470 · 08/07/2017 22:01

I feel sorry for gosh and the medical teams caring for him, they are professionals and CA and Charlie's parents seem to have lost sight of that.

I think that's inevitable TBH; they have had the most horrendous 10 months or so and I don't think that they can help their judgement from being coloured by their sad (understatement) experiences. However, I think that a lot of the people who are not real life friends and family of Charlie and have just latched onto the case on the internet have been responsible for making it harder for the parents - when you see fools people carrying banners saying 'free Charlie Gard' wtf are they thinking?

noradurst · 08/07/2017 22:06

'The real "Charlie's Army" are the team of medical professionals who have cared for him for the last 10 months.'

Wanted to bring this onto page 3 because I think it's so important. I dread to think of the other parents in GOSH who are suffering through a nightmare & have to deal with this. Imagine the impact this has had on the staff who already have incredibly stressful jobs.

I have no sympathy with Charlie's parents anymore.I feel absolutely horrendous saying that because I initially believed they were just driven mad by grief and hoping something could be done. They've exhausted their legal options. They have an absolute right to do it but no-one has disagreed (except quacks seeming to profit off them).

This madness has gone too far. People who say that they feel the Gards have been backed into a corner: I honestly feel that they are self-servingly stoking the fire. The Good Morning Britain interviews maybe they believe Charlie needs a champion but they could release a letter (again) stating the facts that we've heard over and over.

They are continuously raising money and most disgustingly...selling freaking phone cases with their son's face on it. Sad Sad Sad

I know this is a horrible, horrible thing to say. Their son is already dead. That is a horrific fate I wouldn't want for any parents, but they have to accept at some point that no "army" in the world can reverse Charlie's brain damage.
