WIBU to wear these boots to a wedding?

MiniMummy576 · 05/07/2017 14:16

I have a wedding to go to in October. I'm planning on wearing a long sleeved dark green knitted dress that's about knee length, with black tights and boots very similar to these. The wedding is in a barn and due to the time of year will be pretty cold.
Do you think it would be okay if I wore these boots, or will I look like a prat? Confused

I would wear formal shiny leather boots or some shoes you can dance in. Take a formal jacket in case its cold. People will be pretty smart even though its in a barn.

That said you can wear whatever you want, but if you're asking on mumsnet you are clearly not too confident.

At my wedding my pal was playing an instrument at the front and she wore a v v short skirt and DMs. When she arrived at my house my granny directed her to use the spare room to change into her wedding outfit. Queue a rather awkward exchange.

Hideous, unless you are in Alaska.

Ordinarily, I'd say hell no, but it's in a barn. So I'll downgrade to probably no.

Worth finding out how informal this wedding is. It might be a posh barn, in which case I'll go back to hell no.

I wore purple wellies with a purple maxi dress to my friends wedding, which she was having in a field and marquee on her farm. Lots of other guests told me I was a genius and they wished they had thought of it. The bride was particularly amused. Wear what you want and will make you comfy.

Seriously. Go on the website. Look at the barn. My wedding barn is all posh and candlelit.

Have the people of Alaska, collectively, done something awful to you because you can't punish them all for Sara Palin?

God, Sarah Palin. Remember when she was the scariest thing in America?

I'm kind of nostalgic for her now.

Last Halloween it was still warm enough to sit outside till the early hours with a shirt and vest top under, as well as a light cardi, no coat.
I would rethink, colour is fine but you need to think layers if you want boots go for more dressy leather ones, if they are lined inside your feet will bake. You can buy thick tights if it does prove to be cold, or thinner ones if it's milder.
Comfort is good, but October can surprise you with unseasonal weather at both ends of the spectrum. Again layers are your friend here.

She opened the floodgates. Without her cute little chin to get us accustomed to stupid, Trump would still be hosting The Apprentice.

Did you make a decision Op?!

Sorry OP but you will look like a twat.

Are you arriving by husky?

Your outfit doesn't sound very weddingy either.

Is it a nice converted barn or an actual barn with straw etc? Is it a casual affair?

I would definitely rethink the outfit tbh.

They are not at all suitable for leaving the house in going to a wedding.

Yes one can wear what one likes to a wedding I suppose, if they're a boorish sort of person that prefers to plough their own path regardless of social niceties, but don't be surprised when you're not in any pictures - you bloody wouldn't have been if you'd have worn those to mine.

As a veg farm who wore boots to my own wedding even I say no. Smart leather boots grand and you can wear fleece liners and nobody will know if you are that worried (although we've had a few parties in our sheds and with a couple of heaters and been surprisingly warm!) but those are too informal

Unless the barn is located on a mountain with 6 inches of snow YABU.

October isn't that cold, it's usually around 10-12°C surely? Most people can cope at that temperature for a day without having to wear snow boots!

If it was January in the Alps, then I think you could be forgiven, but I don't think there's any excuse for those in the UK in October.

FWIW I've swum in the sea on the East Coast of Scotland in early October!

I used to work for a mobile catering company that provided food for weddings in places like barns, marquees and other temporary venues. I always, always felt cold in the evening/ night, even with heating and even being on my feet working constantly. These places get cold in the evenings even in the middle of summer, no matter what the size of the venue or the number of guests and I've been to many events where people have popped home to get blankets for the evening do - in June/ July/ August. Having said that, the boots aren't very weddingy. I'd agree with the poster who said go with layers, but definitely don't expect warmth at night time.
