WIBU to wear these boots to a wedding?

I have a wedding to go to in October. I'm planning on wearing a long sleeved dark green knitted dress that's about knee length, with black tights and boots very similar to these. The wedding is in a barn and due to the time of year will be pretty cold.
Do you think it would be okay if I wore these boots, or will I look like a prat? Confused

Is it a Game of Thrones-themed wedding?

My DD1 went to a wedding in a barn in Scotland in November. She wore a dress, a little cardi and normal shoes. She says it was coolish when they were eating but got very warm when they all started dancing. I don’t thing those boots will be right at all for that type of wedding.

No no no no no! Those boots are for jeans and a jumper not dress and very definitely not a wedding. If you're looking for a "country" style boot you'll get decent use out of there are way smarter and more practical options than those. I'm sure the wizards on style and beauty could help you out if you pop over there.

Even if it's in a barn in October the bride and groom will surely be shelling out for heating - in which case, style issues aside, you would melt.

I don't see the problem for a barn wedding, but I wore trainers at my own wedding so I'm probably not the best judge Grin

Step away from the boots, OP.

Look fine to me. I much prefer them to ugly flapping sandals flopping around on feet.

Green is bad form for weddings and those boots are fugly. Could be worse I suppose, BIL's ex wore her bus driver's uniform to our wedding. It was an interesting choice.

Is it a posh barn or a drafty rambling old shack?

If the former then no, if the latter, why not?

How nasty some people are being.

Totally depends on the wedding. OK, they're not 'smart' attire, but maybe it's the kind of wedding where the bride and/or groom turn up on a tractor, and guests sit in the barn on hay bales; in that kind of setting they'd be perfectly fine.

But for a smart wedding, I don't disagree that a pair of leather boots without fur lining or laces would look smarter and still be warm.

I would also rethink the dark green long sleeved knitted dress, too hot and not good for dancing in.

Green is bad form for weddings

Is it? Why? I've worn green to weddings and am in fact about to do so again.

Green is fine. I'd check whether the barn is heated before wearing the two together. Flat shoes in barn or anywhere with tricky flooring are advisable whether boots or not. And anyone considering flimsy dresses in these circumstances - watch out for the space heaters. They eat little dresses if not properly guarded.

Green being bad form is just some daft superstition isn't it?

Jacques there's always a dress code at a wedding. It's often unwritten but it's still there. These boots would pretty much never be ok.

Wear what you want. It's a wedding not a fashion parade. I'm presuming you've been invited because they like you and not just to see what you're going to wear? Two fingers up to the haters OP, and wear them with pride. I actually quite like them!

I don't think it'll be that cold.

They're nice boots. NOT for a wedding though, sorry.

Good God No! They're horrific, especially for a wedding, no matter the location

pictish · 05/07/2017 15:14

I don't think they're the worst I've seen but there are better than these out there. It is a wedding, not an Alaskan trapping expedition. I'm sure those boots won't be necessary.

If there's no dress code you could put them on at a later stage. I wouldn't wear them at first.
