To lose my ***

I've just come home from work to discover my cleaner has painted parts of my bannister and skirting.

She's dripped white gloss paint over my oak wood flooring and there are paint drip marks on my bannister.

To make things worse my kitchen hasn't been cleaned and there are grease marks untouched.

AIBU to actually lose my *?! I guess she meant well but WTAF?!!

Our decorator, while painting the bedroom, decided to paint the new radiator to match.

I cried Blush

Op, I'd have been doubly pissed off - firstly at the paint and secondly because she didn't clean - her actual job!

MadamePomfrey · 04/07/2017 22:04

Did she not give any reason as to why??

BeingMePls · 04/07/2017 22:06

Ok. Laughing at painted statue story. Slightly horrified but admit I giggled to the resanding of kitchen surface and dog oss story.

Not quite yet laughing at the white gloss paint being dripped over oak flooring - yet.

Maybe on the third rum and Coke?!!

BeingMePls · 04/07/2017 22:07

No reason, no paint left out and definitely not briefed to paint.

Surely clue in the role title??? Cleaner NOT painter!!

Alec

Can you guarantee no one died?! Right now I couldn't guarantee you 😞

I..um...maybe...nope, I got nothing. Shock

RaspberryBeretHoopla · 04/07/2017 22:13

Perhaps someone did die and the paint is to cover the evidence of the crime scene.

BlahBlahBlahEtc · 04/07/2017 22:13

I don't understand all these stories about cleaners fucking up your shit!

I felt like I overstepped when I hoovered FILs when he went on holiday and I was feeding the cat.

..Maybe I should have painted the cat Hmm

BlessYourCottonSocks · 04/07/2017 22:16

If it makes you feel any better this is the result when an elderly cleaning lady decided to re-paint a priceless fresco to make it tidier. Grin
Jesus Christ! is perhaps the best that can be said for that.

Swallalala · 04/07/2017 22:21

What the fucking fuck

WHY would she do that out of the blue?! I'd be fucking furious OP! Please call her and tell her repeatedly that she's a fucking idiot until she understands what you mean!

IrritatedUser1960 · 04/07/2017 22:23

What the heck was going through her head whyyyyyyyyy???? I would have lost my shit too.
I would demand an explanation why she did this and claim back every penny off her insurance if she had insurance and then fire her ass out of a canon.
What bizarre behaviour - is she bipolar or something?

GrandDesespoir · 04/07/2017 22:25

Is she Spanish? DIY fresco restoration.

GrandDesespoir · 04/07/2017 22:28

Oh - took too long working out how to post a link. Blush

TynesideBlonde · 04/07/2017 22:32

Haven't rtft, aplologies. Children related! You can get a scraper device in B&Q and various other similar stores which will take most if that off without damaging wood. Also check out magic eraser. I speak from bitter experience. Ps I'd have to be restrained from the kill

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 04/07/2017 22:33

is she bipolar or something?

Hmm
AlternativeTentacle · 04/07/2017 22:35

you can get proper paint remover on there, just dont breathe it in whilst it is working. then scrape it off. nitro something...

TattyCat · 04/07/2017 22:39

Gloss paint usually comes off hardwood floors with a razor blade.

If your DH is a painter/decorator then he'd know that trying to remove it so soon after the 'crime', he'd make it even worse! If you leave it to try, you can easily remove gloss paint by gently scraping with a blade when it's dry and hard. I know these things... I over-paint everything when I do it (grr)!, including accidents on solid wood floors (my own). There is no 'evidence' now that I've ever done that. And I've painted lots... and lots... and lots... and then a bit more.

She meant well, even though it's utterly wrong of her. If she's otherwise ok, then set some rules with her and look at any damage as character and therefore a story to tell!

Namechangetempissue · 04/07/2017 22:40

Any help?

TattyCat · 04/07/2017 22:40

A solid wood floor, by the way, should have signs of life, and not be perfect. They are perfect in their imperfection.

Justaboy · 04/07/2017 22:42

Sharp wood chisel will usually get that of the floor wood if it is Oak.

Any further forward on why at all?.

TattyCat · 04/07/2017 22:42

Namechangetempissue

Great advice, but only when the paint has dried already. And a heat gun may make it a sticky mess and spread it if it hasn't dried hard.

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 04/07/2017 22:42

It's really weird and annoying and I'd want to point this out to her, etc, but really not worth actually crying over OP.
