To lose my ***

I've just come home from work to discover my cleaner has painted parts of my bannister and skirting.

She's dripped white gloss paint over my oak wood flooring and there are paint drip marks on my bannister.

To make things worse my kitchen hasn't been cleaned and there are grease marks untouched.

AIBU to actually lose my *?! I guess she meant well but WTAF?!!

I'd tell her to pay for the damage, she's there to clean not redecorate! It might have been a well meaning thought but it's damaged your house and that's not okay

RaspberryBeretHoopla · 04/07/2017 21:32

I would get my keys back & change alarm codes ASAP lest she takes to doing more voluntary decorating.

Decaffstilltastesweird · 04/07/2017 21:34

Maybe use a big company next time op?

I am shit at telling people if I'm not happy with work they're doing in my house. I just feel a dick doing it, which I realise is ridiculous. I can do it for decorators, electricians etc as I don't have to see them ever again if I don't like, but I saw my cleaner nearly every week.

I had to get my DH to give our last cleaner notice Blush. It's the only situation where I behave like that.

If we ever get another cleaner, I am definitely getting one through a big company, so I can just call the office if there are any problems.

MyPatronusIsAUnicorn · 04/07/2017 21:35

It's not something I'd laugh about in time. I'd be pissed off forever.

YADDDDDDDNBU OP! That is a shocking job! And why the hell would a cleaner do that?!

wildbhoysmama · 04/07/2017 21:37

If it's only been today you or your OH can get going with white spirit (or nail polish remover with an ear bud if that fails), it really does work and can get all the little bits out of the joins. I do all of the decorating and have had a good, few mistakes which always come out in the end. Last resort is sanding the area with sandpaper/ hand sander and revarnishing. It will be sorted, it won't cost you thousands, try to be calm, I know it's hard but you'll be grand.

WyfOfBathe · 04/07/2017 21:37

I would bill her for it.

If she can't afford to pay to repair her stupidity, she should have got insurance or not done it in the first place

userres · 04/07/2017 21:37

FUCKING HELL!!! I would be fuming!

I'm a cleaner and I have never ever felt the need to paint someone else's house, I see houses everyday that could do with a touch up but Um the cleaner bit the decorator

RaspberryBeretHoopla · 04/07/2017 21:38

Decaffstilltastesweird call a "big company" and see what kind of quote they give you. The last quote I got from a uniformed service was almost 10 times what I pay for individual contract labour and I pay a fair wage with reasonable expectations.

GrumpySausage · 04/07/2017 21:39

I'm just Shock at this. Who does this?!

Flowers OP, I'm so mad for you.

Bluntness100 · 04/07/2017 21:39

That's the most bizzare thing I've ever heard. I can't think what possessed her. Wild gives good advice.

vikingprincess81 · 04/07/2017 21:40

The fuck??????? Confused

BeingMePls · 04/07/2017 21:40

Sanding definitely doesn't work as I tried that in the kitchen and it fucked it up royally. Plus it then won't match the rest of the house.

Hubbie is on hands and knees with white spirit but he's been up since 5am and this is not our problem to sort.

Now on second glass of rum and coke 😤

DearMrDilkington · 04/07/2017 21:40

I wonder if she's bored of being a cleaner and wants to pursue a career in painting & decorating...

Did she buy the paint herself? Bizarre.

vikingprincess81 · 04/07/2017 21:40

No advice - just another confused MNer who thinks this is vv weird!!

My mums cleaner did this once, they were on holiday and a he randomly painted a much loved garden statue with brown fence paint, it was so odd!

AlecTrevelyan006 · 04/07/2017 21:45

If my cleaner did this (not that I have one) I'd probably be angry for about five seconds. Then I'd probably just think WTF? Then I'd want to have a chat with the cleaner and try to get to the bottom of everything. Then I'd make a decision about what happens next.

It's a bit odd, and a bit annoying but I'm guessing no one died.

Decaffstilltastesweird · 04/07/2017 21:47

Oh no raspberry. I can't really justify a cleaner ATM anyway, but that's something to bear in mind if we ever decide to hire one.

DearMrDilkington · 04/07/2017 21:47

Harts what colour was the statue originally? Did they say why they gave it a makeover?

PringlesInTheFlySpace · 04/07/2017 21:50

Shock WTAF!!!! She didn't even do a good fucking job!

Caroian · 04/07/2017 21:52

Gloss paint usually comes off hardwood floors with a razor blade.

ExplodedCloud · 04/07/2017 21:55

Did you have paint out?
I'm just struggling to imagine the thought process that took her from cleaning to redecorating. Badly.

Carouselfish · 04/07/2017 21:56

Can I top that OP?
In labour in hospital. Family friend went to our rented, newly decorated house to walk and feed our two dogs.
Instead of doing that, in the 48 hours we were away, they sanded the brand new, natural oak worksurfaces and stained them a bright orange (to cover over a small water mark we'd made on one). The noise of the sander scared the rescue dog so much, he broke into the living room, peed all over the carpet and new sofa and ripped down two curtains and rails.
He said he had gotten bored.
We couldn't speak to him for years.
