To love my fantasy little house that I live in alone

crochetmonkey69 · 04/07/2017 14:29

I love my DP dearly and would not really change anything, but I lived alone for 7 years before we got together and I miss it!
In my mind I have my own fantasy little cottage with a little courtyard garden, I stay in my big bed with loads of decorative pillows and cushions on, drinking out of my beautiful handpainted mug.
I eat whatever I want whenever I want and never have to share it. Everything is decorated entirely to my taste and whims and I treat myself to a lovely cake which is displayed under a glass dome on the kitchen side for me to return to when I want.
Everything is clean and tidy and I have a long bath every evening.
I love my little fantasy - it helps me while away many a walk home from work. Anyone the same?

I have a butler in my house, he bears an uncanny resemblance to Sean Bean (circa 1990) Wink

Placemarking will be back with my story ❤

OMG I rely on this fantasy to keep me sane some days, mainly the thought of not being in the same house as DH! My dream house is small and compact but with a lovely garden for pottering in, with everything just as I want it without having to compromise. Oh, and I'd have a dog too!😍

I live on my own in a cosy Victorian mid terraced or semi d house with a long but narrow garden at the back. The garden is divided into 'rooms' with the boundary being walled. There are climbing plants, a water feature, the odd mirror and lots of plants in pots and a seating area for breakfast/reading and wine. The garden faces south. It is separated from the next 'room' by a box hedge where there is a grass lawn, with a central brick path and crammed with scented roses. This in turn leads to a small raised bed vegetable patch and beyond that a long grass meadowy area with a couple of plumb trees. At the very back is an office/studio. It contains an organised but crammed collection of art supplies. It has heating and the WiFi reaches from the house.

To the front of the house there is a small but neat gravelled garden. A small porch with a neat seat for shoe storage leads into a cosy sitting room with open fire and comfy sofas (opposite each other and a small unobtrusive TV). Beyond this is the dining room with lots of books stored neatly in bookcases with solid light painted doors. And a dining table large enough to seat everyone for Christmas.

The kitchen is always clean and uncluttered, dinner is always easy as it is only my choice. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms and a bathroom. Each with its own with a cast iron fireplace and a roll top bath.

The loft has been converted because there is no clutter to store and my children (who are grown ups by now) and (nonexistent) grandchildren can come to stay.

The house is in a small town, there's no problem parking and there is an excellent free house nearby. I have a gardener. And a cleaner.

I've given this a lot of thought. Grin

I also have a cottage - one living room with mix matched cushions and throws and white washed brick walls - this leads to a small kitchen with checked table clothes and solid wood worktops - it has pained blue furniture and fresh bread in the oven - the stable door leads to a court yard then down the garden via a little wooden gate.

The sun always shines and I feel the warmth in my face -

Nobody interrupts my thoughts - nobody asks for tea or help with Home work - or whines about aches and pains - They don't need me to ring the doctors or sort out car tax or sign school letters

There's no mess - just comfort

Cary come and join us over on the Sean Bean threadGrin

Maxandrubyrubyandmax · 04/07/2017 20:44

I have large Art Deco White House in beautifully manacured gardens. It's set on top of cliff overlooking Torbay. In the winter we sit in front of the roaring fire in the drawing room watching the wild sea crash against the rocks. In the summer I swim laps of the pool (which obviously gives me a perfectly toned body) and hold BBQs for friends who come to visit and stay in the lodge.

Bearsinmotion · 04/07/2017 20:45

I live here. All by myself.

ConfidentlyUnhinged · 04/07/2017 21:43

Mine is built into a mound overlooking a stunning beach on the Atlantic coast of Ireland. It looks tiny and dark from the outside but there are skylights flooding the comfortable rooms with light. It has a number of windows in the walls, they are round. I have a veggie patch and loads of animals. People abandon unwanted animals with me and I adore them and care for them. I rehome some to people who will adore them also. I swim in the sea every morning, and never resort to a wetsuit. Sometimes one of the dogs swims with me and as I walk back to the house my old moggy greets me. I drink coffee on the mound/roof of my house and do bucketloads of yoga (you could park a bike between my butt cheeks). I Iive a short walk from a small but cosmopolitan town with a few good coffee shops, restaurants and pub shops. Very few people are allowed in my house. It's a calm and tranquil space.

The outside of the house and where it is are based on an actual house.

I may also need a shag pad in Edinburgh.

Xmasbaby11 · 04/07/2017 21:49

I have a little place to myself in Hong Kong. I have a view of the beach and palm trees, and I can afford to eat out all the time. I spend my time sightseeing, reading and going to the cinema, mostly alone. I never have to see Disney crap at the cinema or fill up my brain with childcare arrangements and meal plans.

In fact, that was my life before I met DH and moved to a cold northern city to start a family. I was a bit lonely admittedly but I still miss that lifestyle! Every day I woke up feeling grateful to live somewhere so beautiful and exciting. Can't even afford to visit there now!

My house is white Art Deco style. There is a white tile inside and on the patio area, with huge bi-fold doors. There is an infinity pool that is a glossy, dark blue. This is the other side to the house on the patio area. The inside is interconnecting areas, with beautiful furniture. Rich coloured velvet sofas and lots of reflected light. Everything is glossy. Large chandeliers. I have a bedroom with a massive bed, loads of cushions and pillows and plump duvets. I can sleep like a starfish. There will be a huge walk in wardrobe which has everything organised by colour by my housekeeper. My own bathroom obviously. The house is mainly decorated in white and rich jewel colours. Every surface is free of mud and finger prints. My house is in Barbados, because it is beautiful. I have air conditioning. The view from my house is of the Caribbean Sea and pale white sand.
My actual house had a dog poo hiding in the paper protecting the floor from paint, where I've been decorating in the downstairs toilet. How disgusting. I clean the house so much and yet it's a disgusting pit.

ChampagneCommunist · 04/07/2017 22:05

I have a wooden house, with a bedroom in the roof, right on the beach.

Tastefully pale blue/grey shades is the colour scheme.

All my hobby equipment is there & I listen to the shipping forecast

My fantasy has recently become a reality .

I've always wanted my very own potting shed and now I've got one. No one else is bothered about it but I spend hours there potting and pottering. It's warm and sunny, it has lots of shelves and a lovely outlook.

I just need a small but comfy armchair....

Happy days!

crochetmonkey69 · 04/07/2017 22:28

Wonderful MNers. This thread has made my night. Your houses are all fabulous. I've been inspired and have re-sorted my kitchen out to include a 'coffee station ' (thanks pinterest) and put all my best mugs that have been in the 'best' cupboard to use everyday to give me joy. Tomorrow am turning the spare bed into the book and TV nest of my dreams with cushions and throws aplenty. Have repurposed a table from the shed to stack with books and magazines. I'm going to try to make a few of my fantasy bits come to reality. DP not allowed to touch any of it though! ☺

Glad to know I am not the only one. I watched Noddy when my kids were very small and really really envied his lifestyle. I still do. That little cottage all to himself, and nothing on his mind for days only what to get Tessie Bear for her birthday...

LoveDeathPrizes · 04/07/2017 22:36

Ah I love this.

I pitch in at the local Irish bar in Kilkenny and get my violin out for lock-ins. I live in a quiet cottage next to a river and there's a lovely waterfall spot for wild swimming at nighttime.

Charlotteswigwam · 04/07/2017 23:02

A cottage which is probably thatched but has no spiders. With a lot of land that I have loving,y nurtured into a cottage style garden tumbling with roses and other flowers (I have carefully planned it so it is full of blooms all year round but it looks beautiful and unplanned), a walled garden for growing lots of fruit and veg with currant bushes/gooseberry bushes around the edges, an orchard full of different fruit trees (I have actually wasted hours researching which fruit trees, they include mirabelles, cherry, several varieties of cooking and eating apples, plum, damson and possibly fig) and then a wilder part which is mostly woodland, although there are also fruit bushes (raspberry, tayberry and blackberry) marking the boundary between this section and the rest of the garden. Inside there is a pretty bedroom with the right shade of green walls and crisp white bed linen, a modern country style kitchen and at the top of the house a library with wall to wall book cases and a big comfy armchair by the fire where I sit and eat apples and read my book. I think the writing desk where I write my novels is also here. No neighbours.

Charlotteswigwam · 04/07/2017 23:07

Oh and sometimes it isnt a thatched cottage but a small house painted white. In this situation the library is in the attic with a big window I can sit in and gaze out of. Sometimes there are storms and I watch the lightning from there as the wind batters the windows (but they are very strong and double glazed so it's fine).

Charlotteswigwam · 04/07/2017 23:10

Although I am also a bit jealous of Percy the park keepers lifestyle - a little hut in the middle of a park that no one ever seems to visit...

SnickersWasAHorse · 04/07/2017 23:11

Can I have a fantasy hobby too please?

I have a workshop at the bottom of the garden where I make wooden chairs by hand.
I wander down there in the morning and have Radio 4 on all day while I make chairs. The cat joins me.
My friend sells the chairs in her shop and makes enough that I don't have to do any other work.

I do have a friend who would sell them, all I need now is a workshop and to learn how to make chairs.

GreenTulips · 04/07/2017 23:17

rather than the TV always being on

Oh yes please!!

Can someone buy and island and build these for us to visit on urgent Mum business for 2 weeks every year?

OhSoggyBiscuit · 04/07/2017 23:53

When I'm trying to get to sleep I imagine a vast expanse covered in a thick blanket of snow and in the middle is a cabin with large windows to look over the fields of snow and in the living room is a roaring fireplace with enough wood to last me the entire winter and a big comfy sofa with pillows and throw cushions all over it. Next to it is a reading light and a table for endless cups of hot chocolate or tea. There's a window seat too where I like to sit sometimes and day dream.

Upstairs there's a even cosier bedroom with a huge bed with a memory foam mattress and topper so it's really really comfy and nice bouncy pillows plus a thick crisp white duvet. I always get into the wonderful huge walk in shower after which I grab a freshly washed, big fluffy towel and change into fresh out of the tumble dryer fleecy pyjamas before getting into bed and it's so peaceful with only the snow falling outside.

ChampagneCommunist · 04/07/2017 23:53

I will have an alpaca too, to keep the grass down. And a cat to sit on my knees.

Also, a comfortable swing bench which looks out at the sea, but which is not overlooked

Mine is the entire top floor of an apartment building.

Ercol furniture, a huge deep green velvet sofa and piles of cashmere cushions and throws (which do not shed on to the sofa). 1000TC Egyptian cotton bed linen, silk pajamas and a bathroom packed with luxury products.

There's a roof terrace strung with lights and a couple of raised beds full of white roses. I cook for friends or family most weeks and we usually end up watching the sun rise up there.

One of my gentleman callers is Jeffrey Dean Morgan but he works on the rigs and I only see him every 3 - 4 weeks.Smile

I also have a little place by the sea which only I know about. An extremely scaled down version of my penthouse. It's in the side of a cliff and has steps down to a jetty where my boat is moored.
