To love my fantasy little house that I live in alone

crochetmonkey69 · 04/07/2017 14:29

I love my DP dearly and would not really change anything, but I lived alone for 7 years before we got together and I miss it!
In my mind I have my own fantasy little cottage with a little courtyard garden, I stay in my big bed with loads of decorative pillows and cushions on, drinking out of my beautiful handpainted mug.
I eat whatever I want whenever I want and never have to share it. Everything is decorated entirely to my taste and whims and I treat myself to a lovely cake which is displayed under a glass dome on the kitchen side for me to return to when I want.
Everything is clean and tidy and I have a long bath every evening.
I love my little fantasy - it helps me while away many a walk home from work. Anyone the same?

I love this thread. It's made me really cheerful but also slightly disgruntled at my real life house

loving this thread...to add to my london mews and cornish rambling pile i also have a very smart chalet in swiss alps , with all mod cons, including helipad, outdorr/indoor pool heated to hot all yr round, amazing games/cinema room for dds, dsd, and those dgc ...it has the top floor as suite for me and DP....it is ski in ski out, heated boot room, and comes complete with discreet full set of staff, there is an underground garage with 4x4 and driver to ferry us to other slopes/restaurents etc....it has enough bedrooms ( all ensuite) for as many guests as come ....
i must have just forgotten about it....
the dgc all learn to ski here, able helped by the resident nannies and they say as they sip their hot chocolates in thier matching white company gingham check pjs...'oh granny we love you so much'
later over a candlelit fondue and lots of red wine my dsds say ' oh redjellybean you make our blended family work we are so happy we have you in our lives and daddy is so happy with you..we are#blessed'

ok...making myself feel a bit nauseated now ....

I have two fantasy flats. One on the river in central London, one in Brooklyn with a view of the Manhattan skyline. I visit them quite often Grin. They are both immaculate, minimalist design and I have a walk-in wardrobe in each. No children. Sod the garden - I have a balcony in London and a roof terrace in NYC. I can sit and read and have a bottle of wine coffee in peace. No clutter, mess or noise. Bliss.

This thread has taken me right back to my childhood. My Mum had a 'secret room' she used to disappear to sometimes. It was full of green plush hippopotami. I was desperate to find it and used to search the house for it. I was convinced the entrance was in her bedroom as the wallpaper was wonky there.

She told me years later she used to hide behind the toilet door and laugh at my attempts to find her. My Dad brought her a green plush hippo as a present as she loved them so much.

My penthouse flat is also extremely minimalist, with wood floors, wrap-around floor-to-ceiling windows, and a huge terrace facing the sea but naturally also right downtown near all the bookshops, restaurants, etc. It has extremely good security features but absolutely nothing I didn't personally pick out after thinking carefully about what I need and love. except for some reason DH and DC aren't in it It seems to contain many more bookcases than kitchen cabinets.

LondonBees · 04/07/2017 17:56

I play out my fantasies on the Sims. I'm rich in a 4 bed house with a lake and I'm good at everything I do.

I love this thread!

I live in a little flat above a gorgeous deli / cafe in Nice, overlooking the flower market but walkable to the beach. It miraculously is totally immune from noise / smells etc from downstairs but if I bang on the radiator they'll bring me coffee. The windows are all massive, the decor is minimalist and quite natural, the kitchen is rammed to the gunnels with every dinky little French pan / bit of crockery / implement you could imagine and is also enormous. The bath is huge and all my plants are just bursting with life. I buy flowers from the market even though I don't really need to,

I have a shadowy FWB who rocks up for dinner every now and again, but I spend most of my time making beautiful jewellery for various little boutiques along the riviera.

There is no Fireman Sam, no coffee grounds all over the kitchen and definitely no size eleven shoes scattered all over the house for me to trip over.

toddles off to set up new Pinterest board, gets interrupted by DS's bath time

I lived my dream but it didn't last very long. Only a year. Apartment in the poshest building of Paris, in Ave Foch, I was working in an high powered job that everything was paid of including louboutin shoes and champagne on demand. I had a banging model-y shape, no wrinkles, drawers full of la Perla undies and was shagging a hot Frenchman who would take me to Monaco on crazy weekends.
Occasionally, I go back to that life if only for the firm thighs and the tidy kitchen if that apartment. (In reality, I like my DH more than the Frenchman).

LucyTheLocalBike · 04/07/2017 18:28

I have a caravan on a quiet residential site, where I can walk my dogs along the beach to my heart's content. I'm half an hour's drive away from my gorgeous grand daughter so I get to see her whenever I want, and she stays with me for sleepovers. I can light scented candles without sparking off someone's asthma, the toilet roll is always full and never any washing up left half done. I have a little garden outside where I can potter about without anyone telling me I'm doing it wrong, or 'try it this way' Sad. I can sit in total silence if I want, or choose some music, rather than the TV always being on.
Most days I have lunch at a local little country pub, so I get to chat with people if I like but can always retreat to my own company whenever it suits. I don't have a landline, and can easily forget to charge my mobile Smile

This is my real life plan for 3 years time, when Im 50

ssd · 04/07/2017 18:40

my dream house is the small flat I used to live in alone, in the centre of town. I used to lie on my bed and do my nails and I could hear the traffic but no one bothered me or asked for a lift or dinner or something ironed and there was definitely no football on the tv...EVER.

I love all these houses, I'd live in any of them.

IJustLostTheGame · 04/07/2017 18:42

I have a castle with an orangerie full of hummingbirds.
I also have a library with a bookcase door and a dog called Nigel.

NapQueen · 04/07/2017 18:43

When we went on a family holiday to the Lakes I made an announcement about the little rose covered cottage next door:- when the kids move out and dh leaves me for a young whippersnapper, I will be moving there.

It is adorbs.

madcapcat · 04/07/2017 18:53

I have found my people! I have a lovely old farmhouse with beautiful views, polished wooden floors, patchwork quilts in every bedroom an aga in the kitchen and an open fire in the sitting room. There's a casserole ready in the oven, a hammock in the garden, horses in the field at the back, books and comfy sofas everywhere and I don't need to work. Except occasionally when I've been away for work somewhere and coming back late on the train through the snow and a very nice man meets me at the station to drive me home. (not sure who he is - can't be dh because dh doesn't drive)

MaureenMLove · 04/07/2017 18:54

I live in that lovely little cottage that Kate Winslett lived in, in The Holiday. Jude Law also lives in the village, like he did in the film, but he is NOT my brother - obvs!

IJustLostTheGame · 04/07/2017 18:56

And Rupert Campbell Black lives down the road

brittanyfairies · 04/07/2017 18:58

I often talk about my dream house. It will be boy free, I'm sick of tripping over shoes and smelly teenage bedrooms.

I already live in France and have wood burners for my heating. While I love the glow and heat I dislike the dust everywhere for five months of the year. So I want another form of heating gas or oil and the wood burner for the pretties

My dream house will not be too far from where I live now because I love Brittany, but it will be on an island in the Golfe du morbihan. Only accessible by boat, of course I will have my own boat in the harbour for the 20 minute ride across the Golfe to the nearest super u. It has just 2 bedrooms and a small garden. I live there with my dog and cat and listen to the sound of the sea every night as I fall asleep and walk on the beach every day. I'm not that bothered about a garden maybe a little salad patch and a sunny spot for my sun lounger where I can spend all day reading books. I love my dream house.

junglie · 04/07/2017 18:58

I have a swimming pool at my fantasy house and a walled garden for which only I have the key. I dedicate so much time to this I actively go to bed to have this dream. The house is decorated mostly like a Laura Ashley catalogue. I have a cleaner and a gardener.
Don't want to make you jealous but in my walled garden is a hot tub just for myself (no chlamydia soup here), two shepherd huts, one for crafts with rolls of fabric and a sewing machine. Also has a reading sofa with a wood burning stove and a small kitchenette. The other shepherd hut has a sauna, bathroom and small bed for if I should need a snooze. I also have an immaculate greenhouse and potting shed with no spiders or cobwebs in.
Then I wake up and realise I live in a 3 bed semi and have a shitty job. But it's all ok as for about 8 hours a day I live my other life.

Onetraumaatatimeplease · 04/07/2017 19:15

I also have 2 (might be adding another one to the portfolio after reading about snow covered cottages and log fires).
Number one is a beach front villa. In Australia. Think summer bay. Where everybody knows everybody. And by everybody I mean about 50 people. I have magic mats in the doorways that stop any sand coming in. I have a sunken bath that's big enough for two. And I have really fancy bubble bath. My kitchen is fitted with the modest of mod cons. Including my personal "chef" marky mark whalberg.....
Number 2 is a massive American rv sp? Like the one Robert de Nero had in meet the rockers. Without all the weird CIA shit though. I drive all over the world. My co driver is marky mark whalberg.
Now where to put marky mark whalberg in a snowy cottage.......

Shakey15000 · 04/07/2017 19:16

I have a fabulously well appointed flat in Covent Garden with the perfect not-too-high-that-you-can't-catch-conversations and hidden enough that I can people watch. It is modern with a hippy/bohemian twist. One bedroomed as there's only me BUT big enough to entertain my various lovers.

One is a rough and ready type that takes me to sawdust riddled rock bars that have live music/open mic nights where we swig beer and play pool before heading home and having utter filthy sex.

The other is fantastically well read, interesting and attentive who takes me to classy restaurants and cocktail bars before we enjoy the theatre/musical/ballet/opera.

Both are kicked out at dawn leaving me to write my enormously successful novel in my writing cranny with a view.

And I'm gorgeous.

And witty.

And elusive.

And it's circa late 1960's early 1970's.

Not too much to ask? Grin

SnickersWasAHorse · 04/07/2017 19:16

I have a lovely one bedroom flat in the middle of London.

Or

self pity alert, do not read if easily upset

I have the childhood home of my best friend. It is a beautiful little cottage in a lovely village down the end of a dead end road so there was never any traffic.
The living room is always sunny and the French door are open with the children I can't have are running in and out. There is a big scrub pine table with a cake on it.

SwedishEdith · 04/07/2017 19:18

I love these. I was about to describe mine and then realised it was basically a young Carrie Bradshaw. I work at the UN but dabble (soon to be successful, of course) with textile design.

BunnyBardot · 04/07/2017 19:20

I love reading these.

flapjackfairy · 04/07/2017 19:23

Oh snickers ! X

FishChipsAndGravy · 04/07/2017 19:39

My nearest neighbour is Monty Don. He grows lots of fruit and veg, and is a wonderful cook and baker, so he brings me round wonderful home-grown and home-made meals, chutneys and jams. He also flirts outrageously with me (he's single, as am I, but happily so), but although we enjoy the occasional romp, our relationship never goes beyond that.

I love living on my own in a clutter-free but beautiful small cabin, which overlooks a lake and mountains. (And my current husband in real life, who is fussy, moody, a hoarder, untidy and negative, is nowhere in sight.)

I spend my days reading, walking with my dogs, creating beautiful artwork, volunteering doing some kind of vague hearty outdoor conservation - followed by wine in the pub, where everyone is pleased to see me - and flirting with Monty.

OnlyRose · 04/07/2017 19:42

I love threads like this, it's always good to know that I'm not the only dreamer!

My fantasy house is an old stone cottage by a loch in the Highlands . Inside it is somehow both airy and cosy with a huge kitchen. My bedroom has a reading nook overlooking the loch and I can lie in bed and look at the stars through the skylight. Outside there's a walled garden with a pizza oven and a renovated outbuilding from which I run my furniture restoration/baking/publishing business.

I also have a flat in Copenhagen which is all mid century modern Scandi style (except the Lego room, which is a riot of colour), and my cool Danish friends come round for parties which go on until the wee small hours.
