DH not keen on holiday clubs

I feel guilty about paying for a holiday club when I'm not working in the summer hols. But sometimes i need a break. We live in a flat and DC are 8 and 11. It isn't cheap, £30 a day each. He doesn't seem to get that I need a break and makes me feel guilty that I don;t want to spend all the time with them. But 6 weeks is a long time. I feel stressed about the thought if it all. Even though he will have time off too.

If he's worried about money, does that suggest it's something you can't really afford?

Sofabitch · 04/07/2017 21:34

Don't feel guilty. The only time I loved the summer holidays when i worked 3 days a week.

Everyday for 6 weeks is too long.

Perhaps your DH can book a few long weekends annual leave? Or a week off in the middle.

Or can you look around for cheaper options? Perhaps half days somewhere. Our local sports centre does half days for £14 or 10-4 for £22. And my children absolutely love it.

Where do you live? Several summers I barely saw mine as they were at a £5/ day water sports camp. And they've always done massively subsidised 4/5 day courses. PM if you don't want to say where you live or post it- I'm sure the Mumsnet massive can find some great schemes. They're rarely oversubscribed as they don't help with working parents.

How many days of annual leave is dh taking from his job for full time childcare during the summer? Surely that's the number of days of full time childcare you should be expected to provide?

He's self employed so not be taking annual leave. He will be taking at least two weeks off though. he can sometimes take the boys with him as be has a premises where they can go. (and help with stuff) but can't get much work done at the same time. Thanks though, good way of thinking of it.

Yes asked the sports centre but due to the refurbishment they don;t seem to be doing days like that atm.
