I'm just in the mood to watch some and I'd like recommendations.

My contributions are:

Fire Walk With me

I felt afraid and strangely vulnerable for some reason watching this. I was and am a fan of the original series but I did not expect this to be like it was and was very scared while watching lol.

Mysterious Skin

This one I watched when it was broadcast at 1am on Film Four I think and I ended up watching the whole thing at first not knowing what ir was about and by the end I couldn't stop thinking about it for days afterwards. I want to watch it again but I don't know if I can put myself through it.

But both titles are such good films IMO. Anything similar in vein? No spoilers please.

For sci fi lovers, a nice movie with drama and isolation:

I am legend. I watch loads of sci fi and horror and for some reason it really disturbed me. Maybe it's his isolation.

'Martha Marcy May Marlene' about a girl involved in a Manson like cult, one of the best films I've seen in ages. Also, 'Zodiac', it has a great cast and is terrifying because it's based on true events.

cushioncovers · 06/07/2017 18:56

Oh yes The Road I forgot about that one. The cannibalism scenes were very unsettling as it would most likely happen Sad

Nymerialuna · 06/07/2017 19:43

Insidious
Event Horizon
The Conjuring
The Babadook

Black Mirror series is also pretty disturbing, certain episodes anyway. Some of the episodes really play on your mind.

Nymerialuna · 06/07/2017 19:45

Magdalene Sisters disturbed me a bit
I spit on your grave was pretty horrible too, I watched a lot of it from behind a cushion!

FatGirlWithChocolate · 06/07/2017 19:53

Scariest for me has to be The Shining..the old lady in the bath taps right into all my primeval fears. Also loved Pans Labyrinth, and I could never watch Candyman again.

ASongOfRiceAndPeas · 06/07/2017 19:55

The Descent
Creep
Sinister (first horror with creepy kids that actually scared the crap out of me)

I remember watching something on film4 with Jamie Bell a few years ago where he's a soldier in ww2 and some weird possessed Nazi spirit kills off his comrades one by one in the trenches. That did scare me a bit.
Mostly I like being scared and find most horrors cheesy and humorous.
I LOVE Aliens

ASongOfRiceAndPeas · 06/07/2017 20:07

Love Pans Labyrinth... so raw and haunting, but a beautiful film nonetheless.
My sister made me say candy man in the mirror and I didn't sleep for a very long time after that.

livsmommy · 06/07/2017 20:07

Eden lake, Wolf creek and last house on the left I found very disturbing and wouldn't watch again, oh and the hills have eyes, I couldn't get them out of my mind for days. We watched Hush on Netflix recently, pretty scary but not really disturbing, definitely worth a watch.

CarrieBradshaw85 · 06/07/2017 20:38

got roped into watching 'a serbian film' vile disgusting film. Orphan is good

MissionItsPossible · 06/07/2017 23:21

CarrieBradshaw85 orphan is brilliant! But one of those films that once you know the ending there's no point in watching it again IMO

Yes the Descent was scary, you would never of guessed the opening scene in the car.
I can't remember but did she get out at the end and something terrible happen ?
I'm sure a car stopped .

MorbidBibliomancy · 07/07/2017 00:10

Fab thread, by the way. I've got Wolf Creek playing on my other monitor right now and a whole list of stuff to give a go over the weekend. Grin

Also, if you want something that's creepy purely because of the arrogance of the director that thought it was a good idea to write, direct and star in the leading role whilst being utterly hopeless at all three, try The Room. The sex scenes alone are so bad you'll be hiding behind the sofa!

WinnieTheWitch50 · 07/07/2017 00:18

Insidious
The conjuring (part one)
Sinister
Rec
It follows

Teddy1970 · 07/07/2017 00:30

Another vote for Insidious, it really scared me, so much so that I had to sleep with the light on for ages afterwards. The baby monitor scene was creepy....it also gave me shivers when the the younger son said that his brother walks around the house at night......he's in a coma (the Drs can't do anymore for him so the parents brought him home to care for him) I think the music for the opening credits is the scariest I've ever heard.

Train to Busan (available on Amazon prime with subtitles). It's a zombie movie.
