To think one bath/shower a day is perfectly adequate in the UK?

I can even understand twice a day especially when it is hot or after exercising.
I did think DH was a bit odd for bathing at least two times a day without fail (even in winter) but DSS showers three times a day! I think it's insanity.

So a personal question to you all - how often do you bathe/shower and AIBU?

Every other day, and my feet smell delightful Groupie Smile.

StarHeartDiamond · 03/07/2017 21:20

Twice a day. Longer in morning as wash hair. Last thing at night quickly to wash off the day and clean my face throughly in shower.

Rhubarbginisnotasin · 03/07/2017 21:20

Why would you shower before you go to the gym?!

Because its a nice thing to do when you wake up.

Im surprised you had to ask.

Yayne · 03/07/2017 21:21

Environmentally, showering that often is a disaster. Nothing wrong with just plain old washing IMHO. Uses a fraction of the water and energy and gets you perfectly clean. I'm a once a day shower person and already feel guilty so try yo keep it short and try to remember to turn off the water whilst shampooing.

nippey · 03/07/2017 21:21

We are in the U.K, I shower in the morning and have bath in the evening. DH has 3 baths a day (he doesn't like a shower) in the morning, after the gym and before work (night worker) and DD has a bath every night. Looking at it written down, it seems a lot!

SpeckledyHen · 03/07/2017 21:22

Once or twice a day depending on the temperature or if I am going out after work . Hair wash twice a day if going out in the evening otherwise washed once a day .

On the subject of teenage boys , I thought mine were the cleanest in the county until the penny dropped .

Well I dont own a shower. So probably about once every three months when I'm visiting my Mum and have one just because (disclaimer - I do visit my DM more regularly).

Baths. Every other day for the kids. (both got eczema). Probably twice a week for me. Blush we were only talking about this with my friends IRL the other day. Bath day was Sunday before school and the yongest was last. People always look befuddled at this when I tell them as I'm 'too young to remember this' (I'm really not). It's just we were on a meter too. So were most of our friends and neighbours.

All us kids must have ponged something rotten come Friday in school! Grin

dementedma · 03/07/2017 21:26

Bloody hell. All this washing. However did we manage before? We dont have a shower so have a bath a few times a week.

supermoon100 · 03/07/2017 21:26

Blimey I'm not sure I've ever showered more than once in a day. It's to wake you up surely?

Mum2jenny · 03/07/2017 21:26

Shower most days (twice a day when very hot tho) but only use a very small amount of body wash, and am in and out of the shower in under 3 minutes. Wash hair every 3 days or so, but it's very dry and flyaway...every day makes it much worse imo.

My teenage son used to worry terribly about sweating. Teen years can be tough.

WanderingTrolley1 · 03/07/2017 21:27

Once a day, typically.

blubberball · 03/07/2017 21:27

I usually shower once every two days, unless I'm working, then I always need to shower after work. I wash my hair every 2-3 days. I bath and shower the dc 2-3 times a week.

My db has ocd, and could bath and shower many times during the day and night, with a full change of clothes each time too. Even at 3am, he would be heading to the bathroom. He was constantly washing his hands as well. All the washing used to drive my dm mad, but he's moved out now, so all is well.

SleightOfHand · 03/07/2017 21:29

I think it's a bit of a vicious circle, the more you wash the more you feel the need.
I used to shower and wash hair every other day but then moved to a house that needed everything doing and turned out us living for a year with no hot water from the taps, so I soon learnt how to manage on a couple of baths a week, then after new combi boiler was fitted I just never went back. As I've got older my hair is getting drier, if I washed it everyday it'd get in a right state.

blubberball · 03/07/2017 21:31

Just to say that when my depression has been at its worst, I would go for days on end without washing, getting dressed or leaving the house. My df pulled me out of it when she made a doctors appointment for me. Then I had to shower, get dressed and leave the house. I've been getting better since then.

neveradullmoment99 · 03/07/2017 21:33

Once a year.

neveradullmoment99 · 03/07/2017 21:33

Only kidding Grin

AfraidOfMyShadow · 03/07/2017 21:33

blubberball I'm sorry to hear about your depression and I'm glad you're getting better.

I'm sure most people understand how hard it can be to do things when you are ill and wouldn't judge.

A teenage boy suddenly showering a couple of times a day. My guess is he is not just showering Well he might be but that's not my business. He showers when he wakes up, then after the gym and before bed.

ForalltheSaints · 03/07/2017 21:35

Every day, sometimes more often in warmer weather.

Ollivander84 · 03/07/2017 21:38

Depends for me. Today was twice, once this morning because I hadn't showered yesterday but I forgot I was going to the gym so showered after that too
Usually every other day unless I've been to the stables or the gym

Elledouble · 03/07/2017 21:39

Proper shower once a day (hair wash every 2-3 days). Sometimes in the evening if I've been particularly sweaty or I'm going out.

I have been having a quick stand-up sink wash in the warm weather - much easier to fall asleep on a warm night when I feel clean and fresh Smile

urbansprawl · 03/07/2017 21:40

Absolutely horses for courses. I shower every day (because it feels weird putting fresh clothes on if I don't feel 'fresh' in myself), but I'm not a very sweaty person so could easily get away with every 2 or 3 days in normal weather.

Lots of my Scandinavian friends think it's odd that most Brits shower every day. I've never noticed any of them smelling odd, and I have an upsettingly keen nose. (Not an asset in London.)

It's a tricky one though - a friend of mine has taken to showering without soap or shampoo to ("wean himself off it"). He reeks, and refuses to take gentle hints. It's horrible. Our friendship group is trying to work out how to put him straight without upsetting him too much.

Stilyaga · 03/07/2017 21:40

Once every 2 days, unless It's really hot or I've done sport (= more) or I'm feeling particularly lazy/not leaving the house (= less).
