To think one bath/shower a day is perfectly adequate in the UK?

I can even understand twice a day especially when it is hot or after exercising.
I did think DH was a bit odd for bathing at least two times a day without fail (even in winter) but DSS showers three times a day! I think it's insanity.

So a personal question to you all - how often do you bathe/shower and AIBU?

I have a shower when I wash my hair, which is usually every 3 or 4 days

I've been on camping trips when I've washed less frequently than that, so I know that it can be done without stinking.

BUT, putting any issues of smell aside: don't you feel dirty and unpleasant after the first day or two?

seventhgonickname · 07/07/2017 14:23

My exh used to very rarely wash.He didn't smell, some people don't.

Amee1992x · 07/07/2017 14:28

I shower every morning & bathe every other evening! When it's hot I'll probs have a quick shower after work. I'm pregnant with twins right now and being hot kills me 😂 I love a cold shower! My hunsband showers before work and before dinner he's a builder so always a bit dirty! My sons 5, during the holidays he likes a shower morning and maybe a bath after dinner!

Maria1982 · 07/07/2017 14:30

I shower in the evening and have a quick wash in the sink in the morning.

On that basis I could easily shower twice a day, I choose not to in order to save time and water on the morning shower.

3 times a day seems like a lot to me too! Self conscious teenage grooming?

buggerthebotox · 07/07/2017 14:35

Once is fine for me. I prefer baths, but don't stay in long. (about 10 mins).

I sometimes have a "wash in the bosh" which is a stand-up all over wash Welsh-style.

Rhubarbginisnotasin · 07/07/2017 15:03

I was responding to the part that people are starting to smell three hours after a shower, so need another one. Specifically smelling so much that it's affecting others around them. Hot or otherwise, I'd say there may be an underlying condition present there if that's the case.

Where is that part pls?

MackerelOfFact · 07/07/2017 15:11

If time and my water/gas bill permitted, I'd have a shower every morning to wake me up and a bath every evening to wind down and rid me of London grime.

I usually shower in the evening before bed but don't tend to shower in the morning unless I get 'sweaty' (Wink) in the night. If I go to the gym in the evening I still just have the one shower, it might just be a bit earlier.

I love showering and bathing though. I enjoy it, it's relaxing and pampering, it's not just about cleanliness for me.

Always shower in the morning and usually have a bath in the evening. Will shower in the evening instead of bath if it's hot. My sister only showers a couple of times a week which i just couldn't do - i don't feel properly ready for the day without a shower

JustMe2000 · 07/07/2017 16:41

Once every day, regardless the season, and twice on very hot days!

WonderLime · 07/07/2017 20:55

I dont and all the more so if the gym is coming 3 or 4 hours after being out in warm weather. In fact I'll quite often even have a shower before I excercise if I arrive at the gym after I've been out doing chores for a few hours in temps of 115 degrees. Its basic hygiene and considering your fellow gym users.

Unless I've misunderstood why it's considerate for other gym users - however I took that to mean that you (general you, not you personally) must smell bad after 3-4 hours since your last shower.

YellowLawn · 07/07/2017 21:36

ime it's more important to wear fresh non smelly clothes than to shower/bath very often.

TeddyBee · 07/07/2017 22:10

Every other day, unless it's been particularly vile or I've been doing something sweaty. I commmute into London. My toes smell like roses. Well, not horrid anyway. In this weather I need to wash my hair every day or it looks shocking, so it's been a bit more frequent.

Rhubarbginisnotasin · 07/07/2017 22:22

It meant no such thing.

I cant believe Im having to explain to someone that its nice to practice good gym etiquette and have a shower before before a hard work-out after being out in 115 degrees for 3-4 hours.

Hopefully this will make it easier for you to understand. If you have the shower there's little chance your work out will tip you into smelly armpits but if you don't have the shower a workout on top of being out for hours in a high temp may just mean you'll end up a bit whiffy at the end of your workout. Why would anyone want that for other people?

Oh and its also easier to get into your gym clothes if you're not soaking wet due to humidity.

Again, I can't believe Ive just had to explain that.

WonderLime · 07/07/2017 22:51

Okay, and just to go over it again for simplicity for you.

If I have a shower in the morning, go out in the sun for 3 hours I might get sweaty. Not smelly. Even after an hour workout I still won't be smelly. Maybe that's just me... Hmm

Not all of us stink after three hours...

WillRikersExtraNipple · 07/07/2017 23:01

Where on earth would you be outside in 46 deg (C) heat for FOUR HOURS, and then go to the gym?

And what would that have to do with the rest of the planet, who wouldn't be doing so?

Huckleshmuckle · 07/07/2017 23:19

Again, I can't believe Ive just had to explain that.

Have a sit down. Hopefully that will help with the shock.

bridgetreilly · 07/07/2017 23:25

Every other day. That was what was normal growing up in a home with limited hot water (as was reusing someone else's bathwater). If I've done something particularly hot and sweaty then I'll wash that day, but for normal days, every other is fine, imo. We haven't all suddenly got dirtier in the last 30 or 40 years.
