To think one bath/shower a day is perfectly adequate in the UK?

I can even understand twice a day especially when it is hot or after exercising.
I did think DH was a bit odd for bathing at least two times a day without fail (even in winter) but DSS showers three times a day! I think it's insanity.

So a personal question to you all - how often do you bathe/shower and AIBU?

Bath twice a week when I was at boarding school (in the under 12s boys school, at Bushey, Herts) on fixed days, Wednesday and Saturday for me...

If we'd had a cross country run (well,a mile around the outside of the school grounds) on some different day, or been playing hockey or football... we'd all (50 or so) have a quick shower straight after.

I usually shower once in the morning to make sure I'm fresh for work, then a quick shower in the evening to make sure I get the sweat off from the day before getting intimate with DH - I thought most people would want to do that. We're not on a meter as we have more people than bedrooms.

Elendon · 06/07/2017 14:21

I've moved from a water meter to having water on tap, so to speak. I still request in the household that we preserve water, even though I've saved approximately £400 per year. I hope never to go on a water meter again.

strawberrypenguin · 06/07/2017 14:39

Shower in the morning everyday. I just feel gross otherwise as I sweat a fair amount overnight.

Thank God there's no diagrams!

People that shower once a day: yes you DO smell. You also look grimy, oily and I if your DP/DH sleeps with you it's because he's even worse. Even you, lovely girl with a full make up and overly done artificial tan, you might try to do conceal but you look dirty. Grin

How many times a day do you think is adequate?

endelessworries · 07/07/2017 00:21

Before work and before bed! It's not luxury it's hygiene. People in this country stink

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 07/07/2017 00:23

Riiiight...

Ollivander84 · 07/07/2017 00:33

Definitely don't smell HmmConfused but thanks for that. I have dry skin and dry hair (hence why I don't use shampoo)
I showered when I got home today about 6pm. I'm not going to shower in the morning to just go to the gym and physio

CatThiefKeith · 07/07/2017 00:38

Once a month whether I need it or not.

SabineUndine · 07/07/2017 01:01

I grew up with a father whose attitude was that two baths a week was the most anyone needed. Tough on a teenager starting her periods. He always smelled and I'm sure I did as well. Since I've had a choice I've bathed daily, and now shower in the morning and bath at night. In this weather it's a cold bath!

LaurieMarlow · 07/07/2017 08:46

endlessworry sounds like you have problems. It's not a normal reaction to tell people who shower daily that they stink.

squoosh · 07/07/2017 09:39

Goodness me!

Maybe it would be best all round if we spent our day permanently stationed in a vat of dettol. That sounds like safest way to avoid any bodily stench.

BrieOnAnOatcake · 07/07/2017 09:50

Wow some people have issues!!

WonderLime · 07/07/2017 10:06

StarHeartDiamond I was responding to the part that people are starting to smell three hours after a shower, so need another one. Specifically smelling so much that it's affecting others around them. Hot or otherwise, I'd say there may be an underlying condition present there if that's the case.

On a side note, I've definitely had several showers a day when I've been hot in tropical climates, but not because I've started to smell. Just because I've felt sweaty.

endelessworries · 07/07/2017 11:12

squoosh

People don't need dettol but it's just water/soap 5/10 minutes is enough. But the standards are so low that a daily shower is a luxury and "issue". Clean people are not the problem and should not be the exception.

GreenHillsOfHome · 07/07/2017 11:17

I don't always shower daily never mind twice daily.

Agree with a pp, if you're starting to smell 3 hours after a shower (and haven't been exercising), there's either an underlying issue or you're very unlucky as that's not the norm by any means.

tigercub50 · 07/07/2017 12:13

I don't bath/shower every day. I have a shower when I wash my hair, which is usually every 3 or 4 days ( it used to be very greasy but has got better as I've got older). I very rarely have a bath. And I definitely don't stink!

ToothTrauma · 07/07/2017 12:28

Every day, twice if it's been hot or I just feel like it. I do love evening showers, but I don't have one every day. Morning is a must though.

LaurieMarlow · 07/07/2017 13:34

Standards are low compared to what exactly, endless?

Historical precedent? Other countries?

The mind boggles.

FrToddUnctious · 07/07/2017 13:35

Once usually. But in weather like this twice is better and once feels a bit skanky.
