AIBU to think that thousands of people loving charlie and bradley is some what false.

Lonelymummyof1 · 01/07/2017 07:29

I know exactly what It is like to have a poorly child same as hundreds more parents in the uk.
Set aside my belief that I believe that bradley has very little dignity and both him and charlie are now used as some weird sort of click bait.

The supporters I do not understand it ?

We love you, we are heart broken and we will miss you.

Now I get empathy but this is not empathy this is media posts just gone crazy to write the most heart breaking post they can.
I wish neither of these children would have to lose their life and can undetstand the parents pain just like the rest of the terminally ill children in this country.

You can feel sad that these things happen but this just seems weird and could not imagine allowing a nation of people watching my child pass away.

I mean how many of them 2 years from now will wake up on the morning of their anniversary and automatically remember them ?

Oh and this thead was also started to include Bradley, another child in the final few days of his short life

Stopnamechanging · 05/07/2017 18:09

HarryHarlow if you go on the Facebook page (if not already), they all agree entirely with you.
In fact, if you do not, you get blocked (after being given vitriolic abuse).

You haven't provided any coherent argument for your stance, so I agree that it's best not to engage with you further.

nina2b · 05/07/2017 18:10

Today 18:06 Puzzledandpissedoff

The accusations, falsehoods and abuse being posted on social media sites controlled unchecked by the family about GOSH ... Its impacting the reputation and funding of an excellent hospital and in turn their ability to care for many other desperately ill children ... It also must be hugely distressing to families who have accepted medical advice to withdraw life support

Well said, Darth

Seconded.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/07/2017 18:11

this thead was also started to include Bradley, another child in the final few days of his short life

Perhaps because Charlie's parents and supporters have themselves chosen to bring him into the discussion?

HarryHarlow · 05/07/2017 18:12

The crux of my argument: it is disrespectful to have these discussions about children (and their families) who may, quite possibly only have a few days left to live. Simple as that

nina2b · 05/07/2017 18:15

@HarryHarlow

As others have said no one is compelling you to engage, in that case.

SerfTerf · 05/07/2017 18:15

Could you point to what's glib please @HarryHarlow?

I think most people on this thread are just horrified by the antics of so-called "Charlie's army".

Speaking of Bradley (and glib) the Daily Mail is now relaying with relish Bradley's mother's live "were just waiting for him to take his last breath now" social media updates.

Your energies might be better used in their direction. It's nauseating.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 05/07/2017 18:15

Why is it distasteful to discuss opinion on a very world wide acknowledged case?

Maudlinmaud · 05/07/2017 18:16

But Harry this ltitle boys parents have him in the spotlight of the world's media, with only days of his short life left. I feel that this thread has been compassionate and very sad, certainly not glib.

islandsandshores · 05/07/2017 18:17

So we must not discuss the parents, other than to laud adjectives like brave, onto them? Harry?

SerfTerf · 05/07/2017 18:18

No, sorry I am not. I read the thread and found it very upsetting, thats why I commented.

Maybe it hasn't occurred to you (it certainly doesn't seem to have occurred to the CA people) that lots of people are very supportive of GOSH for good reason and feel protective of them?

SerfTerf · 05/07/2017 18:19

The crux of my argument: it is disrespectful to have these discussions about children (and their families) who may, quite possibly only have a few days left to live. Simple as that

What discussion? The discussion has been about the hunning, not about the children themselves.

LogicalPsycho · 05/07/2017 18:21

Glib, is using the tagine: "Smell the Success" to promote an air freshener with a terminally ill child's face on it.

SerfTerf · 05/07/2017 18:29

The thing is @HarryHarlow , if you're going to characterise any discussion of the legal case, the highly unusual social media campaign, Trump's involvement, The Pope's stance and so on.... If you're going to deliberately mischaracterise ALL of that as "glibness" about "a dying baby" and try to shut down the discussion on that basis, then who is left talking in the public sphere?

The emoters are.
The religious extremists are.
The people libelling GOSH are.
The people threatening HCPs are.
Charlie's Army are.

And all the more compassionate, rational voices have then been silenced.

Trampire · 05/07/2017 18:30

My godaughters life was saved at GOSH. I do feel quite defensive of them, that's why I'm here in this thread.

This whole tragedy is being played out in the media. Some people on CA are calling for killing people who don't share their viewpoints while selling sweetie cones with Charlie's name on it.

That's what we're judging.

DarthMaiden · 05/07/2017 18:35

The crux of my argument: it is disrespectful to have these discussions about children (and their families) who may, quite possibly only have a few days left to live. Simple as that

Your argument is deeply flawed.

By saying this thread is disrespectful then by extension the posts online about the status of these children's prognosis and condition by their parents and wider family on social media must be equally so.

I also can't accept that no one should be allowed to challenge the vitriol being posted (again on sites moderated by the family) about medical staff and institutions because their awful situation gives them "immunity" from allowing slanderous accusations, untruths and misrepresentation of their sons condition and possible treatments to stand in the public domain, whilst at the same time deleting any posts that seek to rationally explain and educate flawed opinions (for example the MRI scan and why he could not go home).

Alittlepotofrosie · 05/07/2017 18:36

Care to comment on the air fresheners harry?

MusicForTheJiltedGeneration · 05/07/2017 18:38

@DearMrDilkington

Did that days ago. This was the reply

"Thanks for your feedback

Thanks for your report - you did the right thing by letting us know about this. We looked over the group you reported, and though it doesn't go against one of our specific Community Standards, we understand that the group or something shared in it may still be offensive to you. We want to help you avoid things you don't want to see on Facebook.
If you think we should look at something specific in this or another group, you can report that exact content (ex: photo) instead of the entire group.

(blah blah blah)"

mydogisthebest · 05/07/2017 18:38

A friend's son is a patient of GOSH and they have nothing but the highest praise for the doctors and nurses there. They are a world renowned hospital and the comments and threats made to them and about them are horrendous and disgusting.

I haven't read anything on this post which I found out of order apart from the copied posts from the barmy army.

I want to report their group to facebook but don't seem to be able to. Can anyone help?

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 05/07/2017 18:39

or another group, you can report that exact content (ex: photo) instead of the entire group

That be most of the posts on there! Not surprising Facebook don't think got a good rep for acting when they should

MusicForTheJiltedGeneration · 05/07/2017 18:43

Jeez, I thought you were joking about the air fresheners Sad How utterly tacky and disrespectful, he's turned into a money-making machine.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 05/07/2017 18:44

I get wanting to raise money and guess awareness but things like that..nah. Don't get doing it that way.

MusicForTheJiltedGeneration · 05/07/2017 18:46

@LetsGoFLyAKiteee

Problem is you can't report individual comments, only the posts they are being made on. If the initial post has nothing 'offensive' in it then they won't remove it and all the replies will remain.

Quartz2208 · 05/07/2017 18:48

Harry Harlow of course it's upsetting it's sad and horrible the situation Charlie finds himself in.

But there are ethical and moral issues arises from this. Initially with the legal case and now with social media. This highlights everything wrong with social media and what can happen. That needs discussing, both sides need to have their views aired.

JaneEyre70 · 05/07/2017 18:49

Charlie's Army have arranged a demo outside Downing Street tomorrow at 6pm. Be interesting to see how many of the 50,000+ members go.......there's already loads of "if i cud be there i wud hun".......
