To think Angels might be real

Turquoiserosepeony · 29/06/2017 21:45

I let ll month old DD play with my phone briefly today so that I could drink my coffee and she somehow managed to google 'archangels' which got me thinking - I've unexpectedly found white feathers indoors and seen pretty blue lights in my room at night (not from passing emergency vehicles!) but nothing more convincing than that.

Ex DP's DM however swore blind that soon after her own DM died she saw something in her living room that she can only describe as an angel. She was convinced.

Anyone else had more impressive experiences than mine? I'd love to think they're real.

Oh dear.

Mosseywossey · 29/06/2017 21:51

I'd like to think so

Turquoiserosepeony · 29/06/2017 21:52

AndTakeYourHorseWithYou I take it that's a 'no' then Grin

MaidenMotherCrone · 29/06/2017 21:53

If you believe then they are real to you. I know when I see a feather it's because a bird has lost it.

MrsBadger · 29/06/2017 21:53

YABU
being kind and helping people who need it is not the preserve of mystical beings who bring twinkly lights and a sense of calm

it's our job, with our own hands, here. Make a cup of tea and have a chat with someone who's bereaved, slip a struggling colleague a voucher for their dc's uniform, knit a blanket for a child in chemo (all past MN threads). Don't absolve yourself of the responsibility thinking the angels will sort it.

Also, your down-filled cushion is leaking. HTH Smile

justdontevenfuckingstart · 29/06/2017 21:54

No I don't think there are Angels. I do know that I sat in the bottom of my garden on my veg patch thinking about my very recently departed nana when a robin appeared. It comforted me.
They are as real as you want them to be, no it wasn't nan. But no harm done in feeling a little bit of comfort from maybe it was.

Autofillcontact · 29/06/2017 21:54

Mil talks about the feather thing too. I don't get it. Firstly feathers can come from anywhere but secondly do people who believe in angels actually think they are physical beings with feathered wings? And they pull out a feather and leave it for you?

I can't ask mil because she's not very bright and won't understand the question leastimbeinghonest

peaceloveandbiscuits · 29/06/2017 21:54

What mrsbadger said, or you have a pigeon roosting atop the dresser Wink

SaltySalt · 29/06/2017 21:55

I belieeeeeeeeeeeeeve in angels 🎶

Abba

Not sure but there is a white feather in my back room that's been there for three years and I can't bring myself to move it.

JeReviens · 29/06/2017 21:55

Last night I woke in a sweat convinced I was surrounded by Dementors. I will never eat that many onion bhajis before bed ever again Grin

Look OP - YANBU if that's what you believe. You're not doing any harm. Crack on. I don't know what I believe so maybe you're better off than me!

EastMidsMummy · 29/06/2017 21:58

Yes, you are being unreasonable.

Finding a feather means there are feathers.

EyeDrops · 29/06/2017 21:58

Nothing like that. But I've had a few occasions in my life where a stranger has appeared to help (e.g when my car's broken down) and then seemed to disappear, just like that. That sounds daft written down, but on those occasions I've honestly believed they were angels.

MrsBadger · 29/06/2017 22:00

@eyedrops if they were then make sure you step up when it's your turn to be one

viques · 29/06/2017 22:04

Well I don't know. A few years ago now we were in Harrods and they had a woman in the handbag department doing handbag readings. Oh come on, no different to reading palms. Anyway, apparently I need to be more adventurous in my handbag choices, who knew, but the really exciting thing is that she said she had never met anyone with as many guardian angels as me. Apparently I have 4or 5, quite important ones too, not just common or garden ones. you could have knocked me down with a , well a feather actually.

I still have boring handbags but am now a lot bolder about jaywalking and crossing roads when the lights are against me...........

Level75 · 29/06/2017 22:05

@MrsBadger - leaky cushion Grin

I take it the OP believes in God? If so it's not a major leap of the imagination to believe in angels (or a giant spaghetti monster on the sky or any other made up thing) - knock yourself out.

Turquoiserosepeony · 29/06/2017 22:09

I don't definitely believe in them, or god or anything really but I'm open-minded. The feathers I found could of course have blown in and the blue lights might be an eye issue! Not that I'm aware of having any. Just interested to see if anyone has had any more convincing experiences than that, out of interest

YABVU. the world is in a lot of trouble when a (preumbly) educated person's reasoning skills are feathers = proof of angels.

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/06/2017 22:12

If angels were real and they are not they'd be made of firmament or some shit like that. Not feathers!

Rescuepuppydaft2 · 29/06/2017 22:21

As a Christian yes I do believe in angels. My Dads experience has me even more convinced. He suffered a massive heart attack which led to a triple bypass. Firstly I will say that my Dad is not religious! He is the first to rubbish any 'supernatural nonsense' as he puts it!

After his triple bypass he spent several days in Coronary ICU before being moved to high dependency (to a room which he shared with one other man who had been through the same procedure). The evening of the first night in HDU he saw what he thought was a huge and beautiful angel with wings spread at the bottom of his bed, in the middle between his bed and the other mans bed.

My Mum came to visit him the next afternoon and he told her he had no idea what drugs they were giving him but that the night before he was hallucinating and that (in his own words) 'he must have been out of his tree'. My Mum asked what time he had been hallucinating and when he answered, the man across from him (who had gone white) asked 'Holy Moly did you see it too?'. Between them they had seen the exact same Angel, standing in the same position in between their beds. They described it exactly to a T!

My Mum was amazed, it scared my Dad though, who went very white at the thought! He has since convinced himself that it was a hallucination! However neither had been fit to speak the night before, let alone tell anyone about what they had seen! I know it left my Dad feeling uncomfortable and unsure of his beliefs but it has brought me so much comfort!

Imaginosity · 29/06/2017 22:24

If these angels did exist should they not be busy helping people in the world who are straving or being tortured etc.

Does a starving baby in a famine have a guardian angel and, if not, why not

SaltySalt · 29/06/2017 22:26

Love that rescue

MaQueen · 29/06/2017 22:28

Oh dear. My MIL believes in angels...but she's not very good at thinking, bless her.

Turquoiserosepeony · 29/06/2017 22:31

rescue that's a lovely story. And for those that don't believe in them, that's up to you but there's no need to be rude to those that do - MaQueen

OP posts:
CurlyhairedAssassin · 29/06/2017 22:32

Nice idea, Rescue, but surely the man opposite could have been given the same drugs at the same time as your dad and it made HIM hallucinate an angel too.

ticketytock1 · 29/06/2017 22:34

Yanbu
I could tell you so many stories about things my angels have done for us. I know who mine are.
This will sound crazy but the amount of times me / dh / dc's have narrowly missed something really bad, or something we wouldn't be able to deal with is too much of a coincidence. I thank my angels every day for looking after us
