To think Angels might be real

I let ll month old DD play with my phone briefly today so that I could drink my coffee and she somehow managed to google 'archangels' which got me thinking - I've unexpectedly found white feathers indoors and seen pretty blue lights in my room at night (not from passing emergency vehicles!) but nothing more convincing than that.

Ex DP's DM however swore blind that soon after her own DM died she saw something in her living room that she can only describe as an angel. She was convinced.

Anyone else had more impressive experiences than mine? I'd love to think they're real.

Also, the Bible rarely describes angels as having wings. Except some of the ones described as having six wings and covered in eyes. Some descriptions are actually pretty strange. It's telling that often, when people encounter angels in the Bible, they are afraid.

AndTakeYourHorseWithYou · 30/06/2017 10:47

if my child accidently googled something i'd think a bit of a woo moment and maybe say hello to her new guardian

Your kid mashes the keyboard and google autofills and you think it must be angels come to look after the kid?

This is so depressing.

Gerardbernie · 30/06/2017 11:05

AndTakeYourHorseWithYou it's funny you should say that because whenever I come across your comments I always feel a bit depressed too.

user1497863568 · 30/06/2017 11:13

When I was young I regularly used to feel two angels by my sides when I was half asleep. I felt comforted rather than threatened by them. Although my parents were quite religious they weren't really into woo stuff so I don't think it was coming from them. As I became older, they never appeared anymore although I really missed them. A few months ago as I was waking out of dream state, there they were again. I believe.

AndTakeYourHorseWithYou · 30/06/2017 11:18

Tell it to your Angels, maybe they'll make you feel better.

Chat might have been a better choice of topic OP.
AIBU always attracts the catty responses.

The80sweregreat · 30/06/2017 11:47

i know its a bird feather, but when i see a small white feather on the mat i think ' thanks mum' as i know she is watching out for us all.
silly really, but they do tend to show up when things are bad.
i believe in angels, but i dont tell anyone as they would think i am mad.
same with butterflies, always say 'hi mum and auntie' when i see them.
Its all nonsense, but its not hurting anyone!
rescue, a lovely story there - there are things that are not explained at times. i do believe that too.

I believe butterflies are actually real...

EastMidsMummy · 30/06/2017 11:54

I am a Christian and I don't understand how people can believe in angels but not in Jesus, God, or anything else in the Bible. I don't think you can pick and choose what you want to believe is real in any religion.

Of course you can.

Who is to say what's true and what isn't??

Gerardbernie · 30/06/2017 11:58

AndTakeYourHorseWithYou I'll send one your way and maybe it'll help you be less relentlessly negative and angry 👼🏻

NameChanger22 · 30/06/2017 12:04

I don't believe in them.

Watch the film Prophecy and then decide if angels are good or bad. It's worth watching anyway just to see Christopher Walken's eyes.

BaldricksTrousers · 30/06/2017 12:17

Because you're placing a belief in something which has come from a Judeo-Christian belief system, but it's been bastardised by people along the way? You're literally taking something from its ancient source material and applying modern notions to it, which isn't supported by any text except new age nonsense you can buy in the bargain bin at any book shop in Glastonbury.

alpacasandwich · 30/06/2017 12:19

Angels generally exist to help random middle aged women cross the road or find their lost sock.

It's odd that they never do anything useful like bringing people out of poverty or stopping terrorist attacks, isn't it?

BaldricksTrousers · 30/06/2017 12:20

Why is believing in fake-ass angels considered fine and dandy, but believing in the Christian God or Allah just a step too far? Angels exist to serve God, not you.

alpacasandwich · 30/06/2017 12:21

ancient source material Grin

The bible didn't invent superstition, it is just a particular brand of it. It's always been around.

BaldricksTrousers · 30/06/2017 12:25

Name me one angel mentioned in texts or folklore before the Bible. Sure, the gods had messengers, but when people think of the Touched by an Angel brand of angels, they are thinking of Christian angels.

Also, I am aware of the irony of a Christian branding certain beliefs as hogwash 😆😆😆

SoleBizzz · 30/06/2017 12:25

I am in hospital. I have a lovely view here out of the window. I can watch trains, cars etc and also the sky. I see al sorts of shapes, animals within the clouds. The other day I saw God and Angels.

This morphine is great!

Morphene · 30/06/2017 12:30

I have a cushion that periodically sheds a white feather....I can rent it (for a VERY reasonable price) to anyone who is interested in increasing the number of white feathers they find around the house?

alpacasandwich · 30/06/2017 12:30

Zoroastrianism had angels.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoroastrianism

5th century BCE.

HoneyDragon · 30/06/2017 12:33

I think I'm happier being thick because I have beliefs outside of science. I'd rather be sneered at for believing in something, than be the sort of person who sneers at another and has a sense of intellectual superiority over someone who wants to believe in some sort of force for good.

I burn white sage to ward off negativity and on the odd occasion over the years when I've had something to be thankful for I put a bowl of milk by the back door. Thought I'd mention that just in case anyone wants to bask in their own intellect for a bit because they don't pander to fairies Grin

Neither is fine for my tastes. Neither Angels nor Gods exist.

AndTakeYourHorseWithYou · 30/06/2017 12:34

AndTakeYourHorseWithYou I'll send one your way and maybe it'll help you be less relentlessly negative and angry

I'm neither thanks, but your hallucinations wouldn't help me if I was.

HoneyDragon · 30/06/2017 12:35

solebizz have you brought enough to the thread to share with everyone? No? Than put it away and stop showing your drugs off.

LongLostCherub · 30/06/2017 12:36

Andtakeyourhorse Your kid mashes the keyboard and Google autofills ...

Surely, that proves that Google believes in Angels at least and if Google believes then probably so do Siri and Alexa and maybe even the guiding lady voice that gives me directions when I'm lost in my car - wait, no, they don't believe in Angels - they ARE Angels which everyone knows is code for Aliens.

Google is based in Mountain View - mountain references abound in religious doctrine and in Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind!
Apple campus is called the Mother Ship
Amazon campus is in Seattle where they have a Space Needle.

I rest my case, Angels (aka Aliens) do exist.
