To think the body shop are tw*ts!

Rant alert!

I've noticed a few threads on here with people saying the body shop is just not the same as it once was.

Every time I really like a product they discontinue it, like the lip balm I liked then the Brazil nut scrub and now big satsuma shower gels!

I know I'm not alone as others have said the same. The cherry on the cake came today. Last week I went to the body shop to purchase a big bottle of their satsuma shower gel (which I bloody love) to be told they didn't have satsuma in big anymore just the (overpriced) small ones. I went home and ordered it online. I received an email today saying they no longer stock the satsuma in large sizes and sorry for the inconvenience. They are going to discontinue it aren't they?

AIBU to just think the body shop is all going to shit? Should I even bother anymore? Grin

I still miss their Japanese Washing Grains - never found anything as good.

AllUsedUpNow · 27/06/2017 06:38

Re the watching, better that than the bollocky Crabtree and Evelyn staff in my local shop. They pounce tbe nanosecond you step through the door and start the hard sell. They won't leave you to browse even if you ask directly. I can't go in the any more as ine day I'll snap and be really rude.

RibenaMonsoon · 27/06/2017 08:16

So glad they are to be sold to Natura. I met the founder of the body shop, she came and did a speech about animal cruelty at my school. Poor lady would be turning in her grave if she knew they were initially sold to l'oriel.

I miss the kiwi lip balm. Thank God they still have white musk!

Anita Roddick was still alive when it was sold to loreal and was part of the decision making process to sell it.

Vanillaradio · 27/06/2017 09:06

It's so expensive now. I used to buy everything from there when I was a poor student (white musk, vitamin e face stuff, peppermint foot lotion ......) Can't afford anything in there now!

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 27/06/2017 09:13

Yep. I hero worshipped Anita Roddick as a teenager but it was her decision to sell to L'Oréal and I've never quite forgiven her for it.

Groupie123 · 27/06/2017 09:16

Love the handcream.

Vebrithien · 27/06/2017 09:16

If you have a outlet village near you with a Body Shop in it, they may have the big pump shower gels. I got the satsuma one in Street (Clarke's Village) last week. £10 and 40% of everything if you buy 4 items or more.

BadLad · 27/06/2017 09:16

Blimey. Anita Roddick fooled people almost as well as Camilla Batmanwhatserface did.

myusernamewastaken · 27/06/2017 09:18

I must have been really poor as a child as i dont remember body shop being affordable....it was and still is overpriced.

FavouriteWasteofSlime · 27/06/2017 09:21

Body shop was the place I used to go in as a teenager but the only thing I occasionally buy now is their Hemp hand cream.

It's a shop I see on the high street but I don't know anyone that shops there. They always look empty.

ShesNoNormanPace · 27/06/2017 09:24

I'm surprised they are still in business with all the 50% off deals, buy 2 get 2 free etc, free delivery - even then it's still not white musk as good as it was.

Oly5 · 27/06/2017 09:28

I still love the body butter and shower gels. But wish they would stick to all those amazing scents from the 80s we know and love. I adored it as a teenager.
Yes to bringing back the kiwi lip balm and eye gel!

ArtemisiaGentilleschi · 27/06/2017 09:32

Pound for pound it works out way cheaper than it did back in the plastic black pot days.
And as others have said, there is always a 40% off c ode around.
I use some of their stuff this thread makes me think I'd like a zingy shower gel..I do wonder who buys most of their stuff though, the shops are always empty (apart from the hard selling pouncer) and a lot of the stuff is way overpriced. The Oils of Life range etc.

treaclesoda · 27/06/2017 09:33

I've never forgiven them for discontinuing the Rasperry Ripple bubble bath in about 1990

How much were things back in the day, can anyone recall?
Eg white musk, small ice blue shampoo?

PetalHead · 27/06/2017 09:45

They used to do a great face base compact thing with a mirror, with a pale shade that was perfect for me so I loved it.

They changed the packaging which was previously excellent, so it was cheap and flimsy and broke after a week or two. I emailed them about it and got an snooty email back saying the new packaging was better as it was "inspired by the shape of the bamboo plant" Hmm

That really pissed me off! I still do get the odd thing from there, I like the lip balm sticks. But their attitude sucks.

HappyFlappy · 27/06/2017 09:46

I went there in my teen years and they'd follow us around as though we were shoplifters

They still do, and I'm 64!

shinynewusername · 27/06/2017 09:47

Ah White Musk - I remember dowsing myself in that in the Brighton Body Shop circa 1990. Thought I was so sophisticated Smile

reallyanotherone · 27/06/2017 09:47

I got dragged in by my 13 year old the other day- her go to birthday presents for friends are lush and body shop.

I was most unimpressed that they have stopped doing the diy gift baskets, where you'd pick your basket, fill it with shredded paper, pick the products, chuck in a few of those bath oil balls, and get the lot shrink wrapped.

IHateUncleJamie · 27/06/2017 09:48

Same, treaclesoda 😩

Then they discontinued that lovely pink Vitamin E Body Wash that smelled like clean babies (in a non weird way).

Over the years they discontinued everything I loved. 👎

MinesaPinot · 27/06/2017 09:52

DH uses their men's stuff. The only thing I like is the Moringa shower gel but other than that I can get better and cheaper elsewhere.

They're like GAP in that there are always offers, vouchers for 40% off etc. Makes me wonder if they are desperately trying to drum up trade or if they are on their way out.

lill72 · 27/06/2017 09:53

All the crap hey make up about being beneficial for you.... it is not true

justkeepswimmingg · 27/06/2017 09:54

Glad to hear it's not just my local store that's like that Bluntness. I walked in once to get something for my mums birthday. Saw a great deal online, and knew she'd love the product. Walked in, and got hounded by three separate staff members. One grabbed my hand, without permission should I add, and proceeded to apply a body lotion to my hand. I felt so uncomfortable. I walked out of there quick time, and I always notice the store to be empty.
Also OP I have heard that they discontinue items regularly, as well as decreasing the size of products whilst remaining the same price.
