WAITED 9 YEARS FOR MY DC TO SAID THEIR FIRST WORD... HE JUST SPOKE!

Just that really! 😭😭😭😭😭 I am a completely blubbering mess! 😭😭😭😭

Waited 9 years for my DC to say his first word and he just spoke and said " oh no!" 😭😭😭

AIBU to keep him off of school tomorrow to take him to his favourite restaurant and park to Celebrate?! The places he really likes are normally extremely busy and loud if we try and go at weekends / after school or in the holidays and it doesn't result in an enjoyable experience for him!

I also so incredibly proud and I just want to treat him for talking even though I don't even think he is aware he has said a word! ❤️😭😭😭

Aw, I think you'll always have a soft spot for Elmo now! Congratulations! Did you have a nice day?

BLUESEAPARADISE · 27/06/2017 19:16

Thankyou so much everyone I am still in shock and amazement! I decided to keep him off school today to celebrate and took him to his favourite place to eat pancakes and fruit ! He had the biggest smile on his face and so did I ( but for clearly for completely different reasons! Lol) I then took him to the park and we fed the ducks 😍😍😍 and then finally went to the toy shop and he picked out ( with my help) an animal play set to go with his schleich animals and a toy Elmo 🙈

All day I have been telling him how proud I am of him and the whole family are still on cloud 9!

He is going into school tomorrow with fruit and cake to celebrate with his little class!

For the person asking yes my son is 9 and has Autism and a few other things.. we were told he would never talk so hence this super proud Mama!

I also have a DS with autism and the moment he first spoke to me is one of the best and most joyous moments of my life so I am just so delighted for you :)))

It's one of the moments I hold on to when things are tough for us all and it is such a great memory.

snotato · 27/06/2017 19:22

That sounds like you both had such a wonderful day.
And it's lovely you are sending in cake and fruit to school so his friends can celebrate with him.❤

Twinkleheth · 27/06/2017 19:24

How wonderful! My son Andrew had cerebral palsy and used to babble as a baby, but as he grew and he struggled physically it was as if he couldn't focus to form words because he was struggling to keep himself sitting straight. He had a huge operation just after his 18th birthday that re-aligned his knees and meant he could at last sit comfortably - and then the vocalisations started again. When he finally started calling me Mum and Mummy (he would shout this lol!) I was beyond thrilled. Devastatingly my gorgeous boy passed away in his sleep from an undiagnosed heart condition just after his 19th birthday - and I often said if I had known I would never have put him through the huge surgery just a year before. However, he would never have been able to say my name - I'm absolutely thrilled for you OP, it really is the most amazing thing to hear your child speak ❤️

Alidoll · 27/06/2017 19:27

That's fabulous news - our neighbour has two kids with autism. One can say a few words but I'm not sure about the other (as I've never heard him speak). I know the speech therapists work really hard with them both though and any words said is a major achievement so know how important this is to you and your family.

BLUESEAPARADISE · 27/06/2017 19:28

I will definitely hold that moment close to my heart for the rest of my life.. it was truly the most beautiful thing! 😍

I don't think his friends will understand why he is bringing it in ( he also insisted on buying some broccoli for the class!🙈😂) but hopefully it will make them all smile and they can all Enjoy it together with the teachers and support staff because they really do an amazing job each and every day! I am so grateful !

I phoned up the head teacher to tell her that he wouldn't be in and why, she broke down in tears and then I got a phone call a few hours later from his teacher and support staff ( again both in tears) to say how proud they are of him! 😭😭

It's truly amazing how hard all teachers and support staff work and how much they really do care about the children!

Tini17 · 27/06/2017 20:13

Oooooh sitting here crying. That is fantastic OP 🎉
Loving the 'taking in broccoli along with cake' too 👍🏼

HoldBackTheRain · 27/06/2017 20:17

OP, wonderful. Just wonderful. My aspergers son didn't say his first word until he was almost 5. I was getting him out of the bath and he looked at the bubbles on his 101 dalmation towel and pointed and said 'bubble'. Of course I cried and my nan who happened to be there was so excited she could barely speak.

Sharing your happiness OP, these are truly the best moments. Have a Cake from me to celebrate!

HoldBackTheRain · 27/06/2017 20:20

twinkle I'm sorry you lost your darling Andrew. There are no easy answers to anything. Sending you a big slice of Cake too

Witchitywoo · 27/06/2017 20:21

Take him out to somewhere he loves and have a fabulous day. And when you're out tell everyone who'll listen!! Well that's what I'd do if my 18 year old DS ever said his first word. Fantastic news, so happy for you all.
