to not see the appeal of Glastonbury

Just saw something on telly about Glastonbury and don't see the appeal AT ALL.

Sleeping in a tent with thousands of other people in close proximity, no showers, portaloos, up to your knees in mud if it rains, noise, crowds, miles of walking to get around the place (which apparently is the size of a small town), they charge you hundreds of pounds to get in in the first place, loads of crusty hippies and new age shite.

Not an age thing - never appealed when I was in my teens either.

I went years ago in the days of black and white when you could buy day tickets. And climb over the fence to get in for free.

Don't you dare be mean to Thom. He is a lovely man. He just needs a big squishy cuddle within my ample bosom.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 23/06/2017 23:26

I don't think anyone can say they would hate Glastonbury if they haven't been, its a bit like parenthood yes its hard but its worth it Grin

You can go and not be with all the crowds of people, there is so much else going on there, its not all about the live music and bands you see on the telly.

Summerlovin24 · 23/06/2017 23:26

Camping to me is quiet. Listen to the birds. Chat. Look At the stars. Go on a mouñtain home. Glastonbury doesn't appeal. End of

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 23/06/2017 23:27

YANBU, it looks cold, wet and the acts sound better on a CD, unless you spend 3 days at the front they are apparently the size of a postage stamp from where most people stand.

I did a Big Weekend once and hated it, I don't like standing for long periods of time or getting muddy, each to their own I TBF it's my idea of hell.

Notknownatthisaddress · 23/06/2017 23:29

Been to a music festival once (V,) and actually hated it. Uncomfortable, cold at night, pissing down, muddy, I felt filthy, I couldn't really see a lot.

Way over-rated and like the emperors new clothes imo. People just go to say they have been imo. To appear cool. I much prefer arena concerts, preferable with a seat!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 23/06/2017 23:31

Oh I am so glad there are people like me who don't like Radiohead or Kanye West....! Thank you!

To the poster who mentioned rock festivals; yes, much better. No posers, no 'dress code' and a much more polite crowd. You cannot argue with seeing Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Saxon etc in one go. I saw Twisted Sister and Alice Cooper on the same stage a few years ago. Superb.

MercuryMadness · 23/06/2017 23:32

Why Dane they sort out better toilet facilities? It is a huge operation and it came not be beyond the wit of man to create something decent for the duration of the festival.

MrShadows · 23/06/2017 23:32

I went to Glastonbury years ago, but no way now,\in my dreams I would go to Download

goose1964 · 23/06/2017 23:33

I agree but them I'm not a music person. I did go to Reading Rock back in the day though.DD went last year and loved it and her in laws have taker her older boys this year

LittleLionMansMummy · 23/06/2017 23:34

Love it, had our honeymoon there 8 years ago and have been several times. Haven't got a sniff of a ticket for several years now though Sad Would love to take the kids. So yanbu op as the more people who think as you do, the more tickets for crusty ageing soap dodgers like me. Grin

BlackStars · 23/06/2017 23:34

My first ticket cost £17 for the whole weekend - what an amazing time :)

Fully intend to start going again some day

I don't see the appeal of spa days but plenty seem to - Each to their own..

LightastheBreeze · 23/06/2017 23:35

I also like to sit down inside, I stood when I went to see Elbow and come over a bit faint Blush I certainly couldn't cope with standing near the front. I mainly go and see old people now like Bob Dylan where I can sit.

Radiohead sound like Muse am I a bad person to say that, especially the one on now

Leinlondon · 23/06/2017 23:38

Loved in back in the 90s. Grew up and went to school in Glastonbury so it was our local party... it's got so big and commercialised now so I take my lot to local family friendly music festivals these days. It was a special place but I think got a bit out of control, still think it has a huge amount to offer just not for me these days, with my middle-age preference for decent loos and showers

glamourousgranny42 · 23/06/2017 23:44

I love music. I like camping. Don't care about mud and roughing it. Hate crowds and overpriced drinks and pissed up folk who think they're cool cos they've taken drugs. As for Pingus comment about people who have "absolutely no clue of how to act at festivals spoiling it for us!"
Really! Get a Fucking grip . You may be one of the pretentious gits that puts people off!

Argeles · 23/06/2017 23:45

I feel exactly the same as you op, and always have done.

NameChanger22 · 23/06/2017 23:46

I've been once. I don't feel the need to go again. There are much better music festivals in the UK and Europe that I'd rather go to, but not with a child.

honeyroar · 23/06/2017 23:54

I think I'm having a mid life crisis, I quite fancy going! But only on a fine weather year and I want to take my caravan with it's loo!

OhWellNeverMindEh · 23/06/2017 23:55

Watching it on TV in the comfort of your own home is THE BEST.

I'd forgotten how unbelievably talented Radiohead are.

OhWellNeverMindEh · 23/06/2017 23:58

Just seen posts slating Radiohead, they make very clever music and sound as good live as in the studio.

I don't always like their songs but I appreciate talent.

Mycarsmellsoflavender · 24/06/2017 00:01

Went every year it was on from '92 to 2005 inclusive and loved it. Just kept going back, later on in a VW camper van rather than tent so more comfortable especially if it rained. Love the hippie alternative side of it - that's the best bit. Roughing doesn't bother me a bit: we still do camping holidays now as well as smaller more family friendly festivals. The fact that it is during term time and a few hundred miles away is also a factor against ever going back.

honeyroar · 24/06/2017 00:01

Some Radiohead is great, other tracks are awful, but you can't knock them as musicians. But I'm still waiting for High and Dry or Creep, I will be hacked off if I've sat here two hours and they don't play them!

OhWellNeverMindEh · 24/06/2017 00:10

You just got creep! Karma police is what I've waited for...

OhWellNeverMindEh · 24/06/2017 00:10

High and dry is beautiful

WicksEnd · 24/06/2017 00:10

I see this thread on here every year. So what? Don't go. I don't fancy Wimbledon but I don't start a thread about it whinging about how stupid people are for paying for overpriced strawberries, queuing all morning and watching a ball bounce over a net. Hmm

LightastheBreeze · 24/06/2017 00:13

Not many older people in the audience, oldest look about 40, I thought there would be for these, feeling ancient now
