to not see the appeal of Glastonbury

Just saw something on telly about Glastonbury and don't see the appeal AT ALL.

Sleeping in a tent with thousands of other people in close proximity, no showers, portaloos, up to your knees in mud if it rains, noise, crowds, miles of walking to get around the place (which apparently is the size of a small town), they charge you hundreds of pounds to get in in the first place, loads of crusty hippies and new age shite.

Not an age thing - never appealed when I was in my teens either.

Mind you, I'm glad I'm not there watching Radiohead. They do go on a bit, and I'm not sure my back would cope with me standing still for so long.

The80sweregreat · 23/06/2017 22:15

Radiohead are a mash up of Floyd and Coldplay i always think. although they were around before Chris and the boys.
I only like Creep and some songs from Pablo honey!
My feet wouldnt stand a festival that big. The thought of the loos put me off too..

PNGirl · 23/06/2017 22:16

I live about 30 minutes away and most of my colleagues go - they are welcome to it! I hate camping and need a nap after 2 pints.

JoshLymanJr · 23/06/2017 22:18

I've been three times (dragged by DP) and still don't get the appeal - too expensive, too far away, too much hassle.

And yet...I saw Leonard Cohen there and it was amazing, one of the best things I've ever seen.

Mouikey · 23/06/2017 22:24

I also volunteer for Oxfam and been going with them since the early 00's and as a punter beforehand. I'd not go as a punter now.

The loos aren't as bad as they used to be and there are very few portaloos these days - long drops are the way forward!! There are also flushing loos if you n ow where to find them!!

I love it because of the food, music and comedy. I don't generally do the late night stuff and rarely drink these days.

Sadly we aren't there this year (and I am devastated because the Foos are playing) but a hot glasto is the worst glasto!!!

Don't know how to act at a festival

Says it all to me. I'm not in the least bit keen on spending the money that you would pay for an actual holiday on shitting in a portaloo for a weekend in order to be cool. In my book, if there's a way to 'act', then that's not leisure, that's a chore.

That said, I'm loving it from the comfort of my sofa.

You're all welcome round. £250 smackers and I'll give you a bucket to crap in and flog you an undercooked burger without washing my hands too!

witsender · 23/06/2017 22:36

It's too big for me, way too big.

RainbowPastel · 23/06/2017 22:39

I am watching Radiohead. What a load of crap. He just drones on you can't even hear what he is singing. How on earth are they headliners?

oneleggedfatbird · 23/06/2017 22:40

yawn Radiohead are really going on!

LightastheBreeze · 23/06/2017 22:41

I went in once, in 1985, it much bigger now though. DS goes every year, he's there now, it's like one of his annual holidays. He said he likes to chill with some beer.

LightastheBreeze · 23/06/2017 22:44

Watching Radiohead, it's a bit like a very slow Muse. Very slow...

GreatFuckability · 23/06/2017 22:45

Some of us like new age shit and ARE crusty hippies.

I Loved Glastonbury as a child/teen/in my 20s. not so much now because of the commercialisation aspect, but back in the day nothing made me happier than sitting in a field, listening to music i love, with friends and family and just chilling out.

NataliaOsipova · 23/06/2017 22:45

They'd love to be here but for whatever reason haven't been able to come so they put a front on!"

No - I'm definitely someone who can think of few things that would be worse! Not my cup of tea at all. But - as with most things in life - I'm just glad everyone isn't into the same things I am, or there'd be a huge crush for tickets and I wouldn't be able to do what I like to do as much! A chacun son gout and all that......!

ExplodedCloud · 23/06/2017 22:56

It sort of changes from crusty, hippies to trendy place to be just after I would have been up for it but realistically I hate camping, portaloos and lots of people.
Probably best I never went.

Orrieonko · 23/06/2017 23:02

We've got a one day ticket for sunday! Our first time (aged 38yrs!) and cant wait but must admit the fact its for one day and we get to sleep back at my parents house (45 mins away) is the only way I'd do it!

LightastheBreeze · 23/06/2017 23:03

Ooh, a day ticket sounds good and Sunday is when the lovely Barry Gibb is on

Wateroffaduck · 23/06/2017 23:06

I would hate it. I hate camping, crowds, portaloos, live bands. I am not really into music so it really would be my idea of hell. Good on anyone going who loves it, but I have never been and you couldn't pay me enough to go.

Orrieonko · 23/06/2017 23:06

Yep he's in our list to see! We'll be smelling as fresh as a daisy when everyone else is in day 4 of festival hygiene 😂

EnglishGirlApproximately · 23/06/2017 23:12

What mrstrent said. I loved Glastonbury as a teenager but back then I could buy a ticket for £60 from Andys records and there was no danger of bumping into anyone from towie. I know a few people who still go but they don't have any interest in the music, just like the 'festival chic' and pretending to be a hippy for three days.

It's a totally different experience now and doesn't hold any interest st all for me now. The only time I've been remotely envious was when Jay Z headlined.

LightastheBreeze · 23/06/2017 23:12

DS arrived at the car park on Tuesday so I imagine he is pretty ripe now, he got sunburnt on Wednesday so that was a good start Grin

TequilaSunshine · 23/06/2017 23:14

Nope, totally never appealed to me either! Always used to have to step over people sitting in doorways at the big train station on my way to work just out of my teens with their big rucksacks strewn everywhere.
Not to mention the fact that the festival would no doubt be covered in mud, you'd be squelching your way through fields, sopping wet and with no bogs to go for a pee for miles and the ones that you did have would be blocked or not available.
Just why would you do that to yourself.... Grin

Vonklump · 23/06/2017 23:14

How does one behave at a festival?

Never been to Glastonbury, but I didn't know there was a festival etiquette guide.

ElspethFlashman · 23/06/2017 23:15

I'm quite enjoying Radiohead even though I haven't bought anything since OK Computer. Willie Nelson Thom is still in good voice. But omg the people in the audience must be exhausted standing there for hours and hours.

Malfoyy · 23/06/2017 23:16

I went several times in the late 80s early 90s back when it was good and they didn't have shit on like Kanye West etc. I wouldn't go now - Ed Sheehan? Zzzzzzz

LightastheBreeze · 23/06/2017 23:20

I went the year Elvis Costello was there, I can still hear him singing Alison. A lot of people went over the fence then.
